When you start saying a team bullied you into signing a deal longer than you wanted as a rookie,

I don't find that hard to believe. I think most teams do that if they have any leverage at all.

tells free agents not to come here, and smears you in the media, I dunno, I would kind of take it personally.

I'm not sure what that is about. I'm not sure who he told not to come here.

I know after he left he had nothing bad to say that I can remember. I know he spoke highly of the organization to Stallworth when he signed here.

IMO, it came down to Deion wanting to be dealt with as a FA, and the Pats refusing to do that because they are philisophically opposed to doing so. Nothing personal.

The story goes that he told Javon Walker not to visit because they wouldn't pay him enough. Of course, Walker showing up would also have hurt Meion's value on the FA market when he should have become a UFA a few months ago.

I know he spoke highly of the organization to Stallworth when he signed here
Yep - because he'd already gotten his payday.

Whatever, I'm a Meion and Seahawk fan now that we have the SF #1.

It seems every year the pats news season gets longer and longer, and the media plays it well. Unfortunately last week there was a lot of stuff about Marquis, but today it was nice the hear Colvin and Harrison on the radio.. a nice reminder of things to come.

Minicamp this week is open to the media, it will actually be a damn good news week, the last for quite a while.

With Branch it was philisophical.
He is philosophically opposed to charities?

If it were simply an impersonal business interaction, he wouldn't have stiffed the charity because it was sponsored by the Pats. That had zero to do with his contract.

If it were simply a case of breaking his contract for more money, he would have proceeded in that direction. He was opposed to being here period, and determined to leave whatever it took.

The best you can say about Branch is that after it was over, after he shot his way out of town, he then reversed himself and said the right things. Whether that makes him politically savvy or a hypocrit is open to opinion.

I disagree with this.

With Branch it was philisophical. Branch felt they should ignore the last year of his old deal and give him a new contract right away. The Pats felt the value of the last year of his rookie deal could not be ignored.

When you look at what Branch wanted and what the Pats offered, the difference came down to the Pats not giving up the value of the last year of his old deal. There wasn't a value difference other than that.

The Samuel dispute doesn't have any of that. It comes straight down to how much they think he is worth. If they can meet somewhere that both parties agree on his value, an extension will get done. If not, it won't.
So it was philospophical NOT to appear at the charity event?? NO that to me is strictly personal...not countering any offer for months..THAT is a lot deeperthan just business... you can't get to a win win situuation whiel doing things like that...

Per Reiss, Samuel is not there....

Cornerback Asante Samuel was not present. Samuel’s situation was one of the topics that players were asked about.

“You pay attention to it, because he’s a teammate of yours, and a teammate of yours that helped you win football games and you want him back, to help you to continue to win football games,” said linebacker Tedy Bruschi. “That’s all you can really think about. There is nothing you can really say or do to remedy the situation at all. It’s between him and the organization.”

Dale and Holley said they saw him. Someone's confusing the dreadlocked guys!

THAT IS interesting...so who did Holley see then....I take Holley as the dread expert...so..who is right in this??? If it is Reiss that is right..my apologies for the thread as I was only reporting what heard..

Holley should know better! :)

That is a little dramatic, no? He wasn't going to show at any team-sponsored events or activities. Nothing more than that.

I would think people would have been through these contract squabbles enough to not take it personally. There is nothing personal abou it, just a negotiation. Both sides are trying to gain as much leverage as possible, nothing more or less.

In the end, it will come down to how much the Pats value his services vs. how much he values his own services.

I don't blame any players for doing what they have to do to get the best contract they can. They are commodities, and they only have value as long as they are healthy and playing well. They need to take advantage while they can.

Deion ended up doing well for himself, getting a big, fat contract. The Pats moved on and have done very well for themselves. No need to be bitter about it.

Is there a difference? :D

Conflicting reports between the media attendees. It makes little difference. It would have been nice to confirm his attendance; however, attending the charity event has little to do with whether Asante signs.

I'd be far more enthusiastic if he particiaptes in mini-camp.

Didn't Sey attend a charity tourney during his hold-out? Not really comparing the 2,but ...well,maybe I am:bricks: and prolly shouldn't be.

I'm inclined to believe Holley because of his status as a former dreadlocker but the conflicting reports are confusing. Is it possible he is there but keeping a low profile and Reiss just didn't see him?

SO how does NOT attending a charity event have ANYTHING to do with leverage?? I think many saw Branch in a different light after that..and IF ANYTHING I think it showed how he didn't wish to be part of the team..more personal than anything business wise...and I think if it was to gain leverage, it showed how deep it all was. And HOW does not negotiating lead to the outcome of a contract??
I think it WAS deeply personal with him..and I also believe history will prove that to be correct..

Yes..he did....which I think speaks volumes as to the possible outcome..
