If the majority of owners thought Goodell was incompetent and bad for the league, they could vote him out. Obviously, such a majority doesn't exist.
There's an article that four owners are trying to influence him. If they are the owners of the Jets, Ravens colts etc. then they are the favored owners for whatever reason and the cause of the current farce.
Kraft was made a fool of, no doubt and it seems he thought he had goodell in his back pocket when, in reality, goodell stabbed him in the back.
Let's face it, the guy really thought Goodell was going to apologize to the team and was shocked [as I and everyone i know was] about the punishment].
Given those facts, why would anyone think an appeal, by one of the people who gave Goodell unlimited power, to Goodell and no one else, as a member of a private club, who's rules he had agreed to, would be anything but a farce?
But if Brady does take a deal that includes missing even one game then I will be forced to believe there is something about this he knew about.
Kraft was goodell's biggest supporter after Spygate, he deserves to be screwed over. Brady on the other hand does not, especially by these nitwits.
....It demonstrates a level of pettiness and incompetence that even I didn't expect at the start of this disciplinary process.
The decision will come a day before the opening game. No time for an injuction! 1 game suspension!
...the nfl will announce the suspension a day before the season stars.
...
If goodell waits until a few days before the season to rule I'm betting a dozen judges will grant an immediate injunction....
I hope Goody the coward waits until halfway through August, the case will be ripe and Kessler can file an injunction, that should piss off the judge enough. ...
I understand why people would be upset with a scenario like that, but there are 3 main points that I'd respect in that decision:
1. The news that there is no sufficient evidence to suggest that Brady cheated. That right there helps save his reputation dramatically. The 1 game suspension could be under the "non cooperation" wording, and even though some here will point to that normally equating to a fine, this situation was a cluster fudge from the beginning. The fact that he'd be cleared of cheating may be quite appealing to him. Who knows?
2. The reduction from 4 games to 1 game. It means Brady plays in every game but the opener, and it also saves him a couple of million dollars--not that money is necessarily a factor, but having an extra couple of million dollars is indeed an incentive that should be included.
3. While it's been suggested that it's a slam dunk in court, that's never the case. As we know, there is a high bar when it comes to labor agreements that have gone through the arbitration process, so while Brady may have a decent shot in front of the right judge/district, it's reasonable to ponder the thought that he may not wish to roll the dice. Let's remember that a loss in court would look awful.
While I don't WANT Brady to agree to this hypothetical proposal, I also can't agree with you that it automatically makes him guilty.
That would pretty much guarantee a Brady victory in court, so I doubt they'll do it. They have lawyers too....the nfl will announce the suspension a day before the season stars.
You're younger that I thought. I would have guessed you'd go with.sorta disagree...I think it's more like THIS...
LOONEY TUNES
Absolutely correct sir, In terms of benefiting his team and its fans, Kraft is the least respected and influential owner in the league. The other owners may be blowing smoke up his rear about how great he is but when it counts it is not smoke shoved up thereYea but Kraft is an expert at getting screwed and screwing over his team.
Especially given the fact that the NFL has a terrible record in federal court and an injunction would be granted immediately that would allow Brady to play.
