Ohhh Dues.....go take a poop!

There's been plenty of Welker hate, and you know it. Pretending otherwise doesn't improve your position. It just makes you look dishonest.

I called him the greatest slot WR in history....When is calling someone great at anything all of a sudden hate?

I don't get it. So hasn't Edelman proven with the same opportunity that he can duplicate Welker's stats and come thru in the clutch?

Your making it seem like Edelman not a 100catch, 1000 yard receiver.

Why dont you go back to 2013 (if its even possible) and see why I started posting here. WW was gone, the site had gone mad and I was trying to explain to everyone (as a new poster here) that JE would make everyone forget about WW. Its that simple.

JE is whatever we thought he was. JE is what he record is. JE is clutch, a great player, and a SB winner, and an elite ST player, and the heart and soul of the team.

What does that have to do with the fact that when the discussion of the greatest WRs comes up WW will be in the discussion and JE wont (right now). I hope JE goes off and becomes the GOAT or whatever he can become. Or just help win another ring.

I just dont see the need to compare the two and slight anything WW did for us. As clutch as JE is WW was mega clutch many times. I dont think its fair to let a circus catch againt our D and a difficult catch (similar to the one JE dropped in the end zone this past game) diminish WWs legacy VS JEs.

That is a bit of a strawman

OK B29, points taken bro. And like I said somewhere earlier in this thread, Edelman is more like an Antonio Brown or even an Emmanuel Sanders than he is like Welker. So I agree, its not right to compare the 2.

Welker complained about BB getting on him, you never hear that from Edelperon.

I bet Edels already knows which mistakes he made in the last game/practice and has already taken steps to correct them before the coach even talks to him about it. Many people have said that if every player had the heart and determination of Edelperson the Pats would go undefeated every year.

Lets just end the comparison. If not for the Assante Samuel miss and the ridiculous catch ever WW took us to 19-0 when Moss was not doing that much.

On the other side, if not for a miraculous play (or bad decision) we suffer a very crushing loss.

WW was a litte twerp. That does not make JE better or diminish his accomplishments.

Bruins29: you need to add "Indianapolis Quitting Tankers" to your renamed teams list in your signature!

Great players make great plays in big situations

Welker's NE stats

69 receptions on 90 targets in the postseaon (77%)
11 receptions on 14 targets in 2007 SB
7 receptions on 8 targets in 2011 SB
18 receptions on 22 catches in the 2 SBs combined (82%)

Yeah, he dropped that pass in 2011. But the amount of stupidity about Welker that has infected this board since, and especially since he's been gone, is ridiculous. Hell, at the time of the 2011 game, a whole lot of people around here were saying Welker had no shot to catch the ball because of the throw.

Is welker the best slot receiver ever? Probably. Is he a better slot receiver than edelman? Definitely. But edelman's versatility is huge. Welker could make some plays that edelman cant make and vice versa. With all that edelman does I really believe having him on the team rather than a prime welker gives us a better chance at winning championships.

There have been a few comments about Welker being more prone to drops. I would like to see one of them post the numbers on dropped passes percentages for Jules and Welker. If those posters believe Welker had the dropsies, that exercise might prove enlightening. Otherwise, it is true that fiction can be fun.

It is bewildering how much scorn a key player for the Pats earns when he is not on the Pats. Belichick wisely played the "use and lose" game in letting him go when he did, but the Pats of 2007 to 2012 would not be the Pats without Welker. The deluded souls believing the team would have an extra ring or so forget how much bang the Pats got for the buck with Welker, and how frequently he was the one catching the ball and moving the chains. The notion that any slot receiver looks like that with Brady is fairly naive and ridiculous.

If we go by how many pro bowls players have as the standard, than Manning has more PB than Brady, which would make him the better player. We all know that's false.

Welker won't even sniff the HOF. What are you smoking and why aren't you sharing????

ProBowls aren't the end all, but when it's 5 to 0, plus 2 All Pros (which are far more telling), it's really not much of a discussion. Hey, Edelman still has time to catch up, but it's highly doubtful that he will. He's great Patriot but he's not at the top tier at his position, as Welker was from 2007-2012.

A great comparison would be Bruschi. He was an all-time great Patriot, he was a borderline top tier player for a good stretch, but he was never truly top tier. That's the kind of player I see in Edelman. He'll be remembered by Patriot fans, but likely won't get much press on the national stage.

I doubt Welker gets into the HoF, but his name will at least come up as a potential finalist. He's in the Ty Law tier. Had some great seasons, but not in a sustained enough fashion. Being in a undervalued position doesn't help him either.

MAss, that is a good point. This board loves to continually harp on value i.e Amendola, Arrington etc when in retrospect WW might have been the best Value the Pats ever had on the team - next to Randy Moss's first season here but that is not the point.

SO for all the *****ing about players making too much VS their production, WW was an incredible value.

No. Outside of his post-ACL season, Welker out produced Edelman's best season every year as a Patriot. Again, solid contributor, but not on Welker's level.
