It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Mcourty has been a factor in some of the worst NFL pass defenses since being drafted.I get that McCourty and Mayo get checkmarks in all the intangibles boxes that BB values from his leaders, but the fact remains neither player has been a difference maker/playmaker on a defense that has been suspect as long as both have been Pats. I don't blame them....each is best in category on this roster and each is very integral to the success of the defense. But top five? If McCourty is viewed top 5 as a safety....then the safety position is void of talent league wide...and that may very well be. We've all scene what a difference an elite safety can have on a game, I just haven't seen that in a Pats uniform for a long time. JMO. Not trashing 'em....I just don't put them on a pedestal.
Mcourty is a great safety according to everyone.
Elite too.
Since McCourty entered the NFL he is tied with Earl Thomas with the second most interceptions in the NFL behind just Richard Sherman. During that period he also has more pass defenses (52), run stuffs (13), and forced fumbles (7) than Earl Thomas. To say he does not make plays is just wrong, he is one of the better playmakers in the NFL, and certainly deserving of being in the top 5 safeties in the NFL. I would rank him #2 personally. How about "A" play, Bruins? Not a big play, but something. Lay a big hit. Break up a pass. Anything.
You know what it is. Belichick's drafting has been so stinky, that mediocre players like Jerod Mayo and Devin McCourty have become great.

His rookie season was promising. After that he was so bad at CB BB had to put him at Safety where he is out of sight and out of mind.

You think Belichick (or any competent coach for that matter) believes that playing at safety puts you out of sight out of mind? It's arguably the most important position in the secondary.
Hey, compared to the likes of Tavon Wilson, Duron Harmon, Patrick Chung, Darius Butler, Terrence Wheatley, Jonathan Wilhite, and Ras-I Dowling, McCourty IS great
TrollWhat are you talking about? The Patriots already ARE the Seahawks! All these great players, McCourty, Mayo, Revis, Jones, Wilfork, Collins, etc.
.....Yet they're getting smoked by the likes of the Dolphins.
CB is the most important position in the secondary.
Look how the NE pass D had improved with Talib and Dennard. Once Revis gets his sea legs the NE pass D will be even better. Without Corners youre totally screwed.
Sorry to call you out....but you're rewriting history with Flying Elvi colored glasses. His second year he was rated one of the worst if not the worst DB in the league. Plan B was safetyMcCourty was moved to safety because the league is becoming a more man defense scheme and he is better suited for safety in a man defense.

It is just depressing that Seattle has two of the top ten including the clear cut #1. Add the fact that Sherman is either 1 or 2 at CB. It is really just unfair.

So did Belichick hide Rodney Harrison and Lawyer Milloy? Are the Seahawks hiding Earl Thomas? Why are people making such a big deal of who is lining up next to McCourty at safety if it is a useless position?
LOL! Yes, you replace McCourty and this team turns into the Seahawks. He single handily brings this defense down.
McCourty was moved to safety because the league is becoming a more man defense scheme and he is better suited for safety in a man defense. But Belichick loves him and his team voted him captain. So virtually everyone disagrees with you whether it is most fans, the national media, or the Patriots.
