2014 Draft Prospect Thread

No, we need the other brother Jon for his spinning back hand and kicks. That will keep them on their toes.

Those would be better skills for a LT or RB on blitz pickup:

"Oooh, JPP down for a 10 count again. Bones Jones isn't letting him get anywhere near Brady tonight".

LMAO at the "again" part. Like once wasn't enough?

The 2013 Crimson Tide Defense is looking like that of the 1976 Steelers.

7 Games ~ against Virginia Tech, Colorado State, Mississippi, Georgia State, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

36 Points.

Total.

Considering that the average College Game is about 52-31 or something, that is preposterous.

Oh.

And Texas A&M, home to Johnny "My Game Allegedly Doesn't Translate to the NFL" FootBall, scored 42.

Just.

Sayin.

Can we get this dude?

Now, seriously. What interior offensive lineman will we take with our first pick?

Real well. That entire MSU defense is good.
Great defense, hope Pats can draft Dennard and have the two Dennard cousins play together (yes they are cousins) in the young and deep secondary led by it's leader Talib (hopefully) also like Shalique Calhoun a DE from MSU but he isn't draft eligible yet, he's like a poor-man's Clowney

Hey Manxman, did you read the article on SI about Murphy. Was he the guy you really liked as 3-4 DE?

Any other Lamarcus Joyner fans out there? He might be only 5ft8 but hes playmaker ANYWHERE in the defensive backfield

No I haven't seen that yet. I'm not sure what to think of Murphy. There's obvious talent but I don't think he has the size for a 3-4 DE and I question his athleticism as a pass rusher. I think he's a lot like Link in that he wins with effort and skill rather than athleticism The combine will be important for his stock.

LOVE Joyner, have done since last year. But I don't think BB is taking a 5'8" safety personally ( although there was some interest in Mathieu last year so you never now). But aside from height, Joyner is a Pats type guy and I'd love the pick. I agree with you about his versatility and that would certainly be an asset. Also, don't forget he returns kicks too which is something we're missing.

Are you happy with him in the first? Which could be where we have to take him if we want him.

Ninkovich is very athletic. Had a few fatal flaws which pushed him down the draft (stubby arms in particular) but his combo of size and movement ability and explosion definitely makes him a plus NFL athlete. If Murphy can test as well as Ninkovich did he'll be in the clear.

I don't like Murphy either... from what I watched of him last season (haven't really seen Stanford this year) he's too leggy to run the arc well. Generally I expect a pass rushing prospect to either make their bones with athleticism or ability to defeat blocks - both are question marks when I look at him.

I'm all about the edge rushers in the draft... At this stage I have yet to find my binky though.

Agreed. The thing about Joyner is he seems "redundant" in role with several of the players we have. Not to say he isn't a good player, but with Arrington and Ryan under contact, I think another team would value a prototype 5th DB more than us on draft day.

I correct myself, Calhoun is draft eligible, RS Soph.Would love to see Pats draft him if they need a DE if he enters

I believe it was you, but someone in this thread said that Stanford had the best 3-4 DE they had scouted. Better than Watt. Was this you? And who were you referring to?

No it wasn't me. It was Mackenzie who unfortunately hasn't been around for a while. he was talking about Henry Anderson and it was in post #188 in this thread:

I've been a draft scout for 5 years. I didn't scout most of those guys except Watt. And, in Watt's case, he's awesome in any defense. I suppose Jadeveon Clowney is the best 3-4 5 technique I've ever scouted, but he's also the best 4-3 5 technique I've ever scouted. I see him as more of a 4-3 guy. Watt could have succeeded in both. But if a team needs a true 3-4 end, and nothing else, Anderson offers everything you look for in a 3-4 end. Great strength. The long arms necessary to be a two gap lineman and make tackles in each gap. The non-Albert Haynesworth willingness to not try to penetrate against the run. The toughness. The ability to see through blocks. The instincts. Etc. And yes, Stanford runs a 3-4.

Couldn't agree with you more. Pass-rushers are usually too expensive in free-agency. And, I think Ninko sees a little time at LB with Spikes headed back to Gainesville. Also, I haven't found one yet either. I'm hoping to see Larry Webster Jr. - Bloomsburg get an invite to one of the smaller all star games and see what he looks like against D-1 linemen. Bloomsburg is the school that sent Jahri Evans - G - to the NFL
