OLD DEAD 2007 THREAD Pats show interest in dealing for Moss

I just read the Boston Herald and it seems that BB seems to like him

After the way FA has started I can see this happening! imo

Ehhhhh. It worked with Dillon but Moss is 30 and he isnt known for being a hard worker or a team player. But who knows? If he goes to a competitive team that might be different.

If we got him and it somehow worked out, it would be a very good thing but I am personally worried about how the locker room will react if he somehow came here.

That's what I find so incongrous about the Moss speculation. So far all our signings have involved players who are humble and possess the team-first attitude. Granted those qualities can be difficult to find among proven WR's but Randy Moss just screams "bad work ethic, bad attitude, look at ME" and he's getting up there besides. Will he magically change playing for BB? Throw in his hefty contract and I just don't see the Pats veering this far from their overall philosophy. BB may like Moss but he'd be a high-risk signing imo.
If he does end up here,I'll support him and pray he proves me and any other nay-sayers dead wrong, but I can envision Moss whining because he doesn't get the ball enough or scenarios along those lines.
Corey may have had "issues" but none of his issues revolved around his dedication to the game or his work ethic. He busted his butt during his heyday and will be counted as one of the best RB's of all time.
Moss doesn't come close to the original Corey Dillon we knew and loved.
FWIW I'd also point out we seem to have enough drama as it is:bricks: ....
Ohwell-if Randy Moss ends up sporting a Flying Elvis then he'll have my support.

Belichick may indeed love him, and as the article points out they've taken risks on questionable character guys like Dillon before...

I would've said 'no way' if you asked me a few days ago, but as crazy as the offseason has been so far, I'm not ruling anything out.

I think Moss has shown to be a quitter and a consistent problem child on every team he has played on. I don't see Belichick bringing a guy like that in here......now stallworth....that is another story...he is a young kid that could produce for many years......Would rather see us go that way.....One man's opinion....GO PATS!!!!

I think there would have to be some major restructuring of his contract (10mil this year and 11 mil next) though. I don't know the rules as well as I'd like to, can the patriots ask him to take a pay cut across the entire contract or does any guaranteed money have to be paid eventually?

I think he should come down here and hook back up with Daunte. Can you imagine the down field passing game the Dolphins would have with Culpepper, Moss and Chambers?

I knew that was coming. That's all I hear. "CULLPEPPA AND MOSS DOWN HERE BABY. DOIN WHAT THEY DID IN MINNESOTA BABY. DOLPHINS, BABY, DOLPHINS!" Culpepper's knee and psyche are both shot so good luck with that.

And yeah. As for Randy Moss...

Just say no, Bill.

I'm not sure why some people are suggesting that Moss isn't a hard working or dedicated player or a bad teammate.

It's widely known that Moss is a hugely dedicated, very hard working, studious football player who hates to lose. Even BB himself has pointed this out in the past.

Moss might be a pot smoking, punk who takes plays off but few players in this game love it as much as he does, work as hard at his craft as he does, study and understand the game as he does, and hate to lose as he does. The fact that he's the most physcially talented WR to ever play the game is an added bonus with this guy.

It's no surprise to me that the Pats supposed interest in the guy won't go away.

If the Pats are able to find a way to add Randy Moss the road to the SB will be much easier than if they didn't.

I was all for supporting a grab for Moss at the trading deadline last season, but that was because we had major problems at wide out. Now we have the draft still ahead and just started free agency. Why would we go after this overpaid lockerroom pox? He is also likely not the player on the field he once was. Come on people! Surely there are other options?

If the Pats were to get Randy Moss, we win the superbowl... Point blank

While I agree with that statement, the addition of Randy Moss to the Patriots would remind me of the acquisition of Terrell Owens by the Eagles prior to the '04 season. And we all know how that ended.

maybe so, but i doubt it. I am interested as hell in the possibility of what Moss could be, but, i think he is just not right for this team. I would say no to him and yes to Stallworth

I'm surprised to hear that he's thought of as a hardworking, dedicated player. I've always heard that he doesn't finish routes, walks off the field before the end of play, and "quit on his team" last year. If he's all that you say and can actually study and buy into our passing game plan then I'd be happy to have him on board.

...the Washington Redskins?

   I was going to say that, but I thought about it for a second and it's not quite true. Most of the overpriced players on the Redskins want to get paid.

i dont think dillon was ever a character issue guy... he played his ass off for a team that wasnt interested in winning, while he was... moss, on the other hand, admittedly takes plays off, has off-field issues, and is not coachable... stay away from moss

With the Eagles three points away from hoisting the Lombardi?

This better not be for a first rounder.

I think it's a smokescreen to let Stallworth know he ain't the only speedy WR on the Patriots map......... but what do I know.

I tend to agree with most. I prefer stallworth over moss based on the percieved reputation, but I wouldn't be disapointed if the pats landed moss either.
