Winning with this current receiver corp is not sustainable

i really can't stand this microwave generation that wants everything to happen fast.

I'd share that frustration IF Brady were 24...in longevity years he is a toaster oven. Still one of the GOAT but he doesn't have a few years to wait for everyone to catch up (pun intended).

OR MAYBE...JUST MAYBE...The bills and jets defenses are better than what patriot fans would like to admit.

Let's stipulate that both have good defenses. What happens when the Pats play a team with a good D and a good offense (unlike NYJ and Buff)? These rooks will have to step up big time in the playoffs or we'll be one and done.

this is bull****.

Don't take it out on dobson and thompkins for having rookie struggles. The patriots could have signed very good free agent receivers if they cared about brady's career ending.

Tom brady also made mistakes as a rookie.

Its BS to think that the team has a realistic chance at a 4th Lombardi if these rooks don't markedly improve. Yes everyone makes mistakes as rookies but at some point a WR has to catch the ball when it hits him square in the hands,. Stating the obvious is not "taking it out" on these grown men/professional athletes.

LOlz at your observation that the Pats could've signed very good free agent receivers if they cared about Brady's career ending. Using your logic that's the only way they'd care about quality WRs? So I guess Brady will be fine with what they gave him simply because he will likely play for the next 2-4 years. You may be happy with a bridge year approach but I doubt Brady is (not that he has any choice at this point).

"Its BS to think that the team has a realistic chance at a 4th Lombardi if these rooks don't markedly improve." I said they will improve over time.

"but at some point a WR has to catch the ball when it hits him square in the hands" exactly.

The last 3 superbowl champs have had streaks of awful play before getting hot at the right time.

Then maybe the coach/GM shouldn't have fielded a team where an undrafted free agent rookie is a starting WR.

Dobson and Thompkins sucked, and their level of sucking isn't excuseable on the basis of them being rookies, because this was simply failing to catch the damn ball. If receivers can't catch, they're useless.

Thompkins and Dobson will either start to catch the football or they'll find out that NFL does, indeed, stand for "Not For Long". It's that simple. It's a bottom line business.

Yup. That was the worst single game performance I've ever seen from a Patriot WR corps in my life. My apologies for giving you so much grief about it earlier.

That said, I do believe that there are reasons to expect improvement, not only after people get healthy, but just talking about KT and Dobs.

I hear you. It's just very unfortunate that the injury situation has made it so that they can't dip a toe in before jumping right into the deep end of the pool, as it were. I don't know if any of the kiddie corps will make it in the long run, but this is certainly not what anyone would have wanted for them in the first two games of the season.

Also keep in mind the patriots didn't even bother to practice for the jets Patriots don?t bother practicing for Jets | ProFootballTalk every practice counts for rookie receivers
Lame excuse.

Tedy Bruschi: Expect to see more growing pains for Patriots - ESPN Boston

A frustrated Tom Brady couldn’t connect with rookie receivers Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson on Thursday night, targeting them a combined 17 times but completing just five of those passes. So what went wrong? And are New England Patriots fans going to have to get used to muddled offensive displays like they watched against the New York Jets?

“It’s going to take a while,” ESPN analyst and former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi said Friday on SportsCenter. “And it will only take a while when certain players come back. In the passing game you’ve got [Shane] Vereen, [Rob] Gronkowski and [Danny] Amendola. And all of these players are gone, so you bring in these players that are young, that aren’t familiar.

“You could see last night there are problems within the passing game in terms of catching the ball, running the wrong routes, not judging the ball properly in the air. Some of these are fundamental problems with the receivers and then the other problems are scheme and not being on the same page with your quarterback."

Will our chances of winning a SB be better with a weaker offense as opposed to a stronger one?

Id rather take my chances with a weaker offense and a stronger defense than what we've had the last few years.

I expect some of the things such as drops to clear up..especially for Dobson...this guy was said to have some of the best hands in the draft and made some circus catches at Marshall

i'll chalk last night up to rookie jitters with the dropsies

Fortunately, Givens had Troy Brown, Deion Branch & David Patten to pick up the slack.
Today we have...Jack Squat.

Patten arrived when Givens did, to correct your memory.

But the rookies have backstops too. Better ones than Givens had. They are Amendola, Edelman, and for Sudfeld, a fellow named Gronkowski.

Those players are NOT Jack Squat.

Ah, More words of wisdom from our resident "I-told-you-so" Pessimist.

Dobson is gonna be a weapon. The doubters will be proven wrong.

Ah, More words of wisdom from our resident "I-told-you-so" Pessimist.

What is it with people around here and their insistence on using words that they don't seem to know the meaning of? First, there's nothing pessimistic in my post. Second, I'm not a pessimist.

You need to realize that it doesn't make someone a pessimist just because they don't go around deluding themselves about everything relating to their favorite football team. The fact that I'm not as ridiculously over the top in my homerism as you are does not mean that I'm a pessimist. Given our respective track records, it means that I'm right far more often than you are while still maintaining an optimistic outlook as to the final results for the team.
