Speculation: Patriots set to make big trades

While we're on the topic of speculation, Mallett for Phil Taylor or for Ahtyba Rubin plus picks have been brought up. Would help inside, although neither is really much of a pass rusher.

If I was to take a guess it would be Mallett for Cleveland's 3rd round pick and Ahtyba Rubin

Obviously everyone here is holding out hope for that blockbuster that was talked about yesterday... we'll see.. I guess

They do have a ton of cap room left.

Hah -- Lombardi and Belichick team up to stick it to Pitt

Hm, can't they just sign him and give up the required third?

If they trade for him, he loses the leverage to go out and get a better RFA offer somewhere else, which means they can probably sign him for a lot less. That's what they did with Welker - worth a 7th, IMO.

Just to be clear: that "all over twitter" wasn't sarcasm? I have seen literally 0 words about it on twitter.

people really think Revis could come to NE?

I just don't see it happening. I don't think NE will pay a CB that much, and I don't think the Jets part with him and let him come here.

like I said, mostly sources I've never heard of. This one was interesting though

@SportsWhispers: The #Patriots contacted the #Cardinals about the availability of Larry Fitzgerald.

My guess is that the people who float these rumors are either simply looking for web traffic, or baseball fans who know absolutely nothing about NFL contracts and the NFL salary cap.

New speculation: In an effort to stick it to Welker, the Patriots have traded all of their first round picks for the rest of time to the Broncos for Peyton Manning.

oh those people make us stories to get followers...next

Speculation: I am going to win $45 mill next week

SportsWhispers is worse than IB

First off, the Jets wouldn't trade Revis to the Pats.(period)

Fitzgerald is currently in Africa (with Boldin and another WR) on a goodwill trip for Oxfam or something like that, I highly doubt that the Cardinals would trade him now.

I can see Mallett for a 2nd or a 3rd and 6th, something like that. The Cardinals did just release Kolb, so there is a need there.

The guy from ESPN who orignially posted "big trades" works for ESPN in Detriot which is where I'm going to speculate, A man named SUH! Don't know what it would take to get him, but I would not want to face a 4-3 that looked like Jones, Suh, Vince, Abraham. Could you imaguine Wilfork and Suh together? That might be illegal!

Sure! they will contact everyone about everything. Hear what the details are and then decide if it is worth it.

I think if they get whatshisface from Pitt that they are probably ok there.

The missing pieces are really the secondary and I would hope there is a big play coming for a legit number one CB. If it is Talib and they think Dennard will be here then perhaps that is ok.

But they may figure that Talib money might be better invested into a bigger name. But you still need some depth at that position too.

Would love for the Pats to pickup Fitzgerald. Has anyone seen his contract though? His cap hits for 2014 and 2015 are $18 mil and $21 mil.

Seems to be backing off the story:

#Patriots have been working on a trade for a WR all week. I 1st reported about inquiring about Larry Fitzgerald. Now its Steelers E. Sanders

Sanders is quite a big drop off from Fitzgerald although I like Sanders.

They also posted this 2 hours ago:

#Patriots are expected to release WR Brandon Lloyd. They're on the trade market looking for a potential #1 WR.

yeah...no way i want him for that

That includes his dead money which won't transfer. His base salaries for the next two years are:

2013: $5 million
2014: $12.5 million

If this unrealistic trade happens, they will probably restructure and spread that money out in 2014.

I'm not going to speculate at all. Either the rumors are BS or we have the real potential to be underwhelmed by these/this big trade(s).

Is this going to be a BIG trade like Jim Irsay's twitter announcements of BIG trades and BIG signings?

If the Pats sign Amendola, sign Jones, want to sign Sanders, want to keep Lloyd at a reduced salary, does a trade for Fitz make any sense?

I agree with those that think a trade to Cleveland for a 3rd and either more picks or a player makes sense. That allows the Pats to give up a 3rd for Sanders. They could very well call the Steelers with a "we can do this the hard way or the easy way offer", likely Welker in '07.

As an aside, are we not totally screwed if Talib signs elsewhere and IncBob is making ***** up again about trying trading for Revis?

I think lloyd is gone..and if he is...i expect sanders or another #1 to come in from trade or somewhere else now
