Hm, can't they just sign him and give up the required third?
Just to be clear: that "all over twitter" wasn't sarcasm? I have seen literally 0 words about it on twitter.

like I said, mostly sources I've never heard of. This one was interesting though
@SportsWhispers: The #Patriots contacted the #Cardinals about the availability of Larry Fitzgerald.
So a few search results, eh? I don't follow any of those crap sources. We'll see.https://twitter.com/search?q=fitzgerald patriots&src=typd

My guess is that the people who float these rumors are either simply looking for web traffic, or baseball fans who know absolutely nothing about NFL contracts and the NFL salary cap.
#Patriots have been working on a trade for a WR all week. I 1st reported about inquiring about Larry Fitzgerald. Now its Steelers E. Sanders
#Patriots are expected to release WR Brandon Lloyd. They're on the trade market looking for a potential #1 WR.
Would love for the Pats to pickup Fitzgerald. Has anyone seen his contract though? His cap hits for 2014 and 2015 are $18 mil and $21 mil.

I'm not going to speculate at all. Either the rumors are BS or we have the real potential to be underwhelmed by these/this big trade(s).
First off, the Jets wouldn't trade Revis to the Pats.(period)
Fitzgerald is currently in Africa (with Boldin and another WR) on a goodwill trip for Oxfam or something like that, I highly doubt that the Cardinals would trade him now.
I can see Mallett for a 2nd or a 3rd and 6th, something like that. The Cardinals did just release Kolb, so there is a need there.
The guy from ESPN who orignially posted "big trades" works for ESPN in Detriot which is where I'm going to speculate, A man named SUH! Don't know what it would take to get him, but I would not want to face a 4-3 that looked like Jones, Suh, Vince, Abraham. Could you imaguine Wilfork and Suh together? That might be illegal!
Is this going to be a BIG trade like Jim Irsay's twitter announcements of BIG trades and BIG signings?
If the Pats sign Amendola, sign Jones, want to sign Sanders, want to keep Lloyd at a reduced salary, does a trade for Fitz make any sense?
I agree with those that think a trade to Cleveland for a 3rd and either more picks or a player makes sense. That allows the Pats to give up a 3rd for Sanders. They could very well call the Steelers with a "we can do this the hard way or the easy way offer", likely Welker in '07.
As an aside, are we not totally screwed if Talib signs elsewhere and IncBob is making ***** up again about trying trading for Revis?
