Patriots Agree To 1 Year Deal With Kellen Winslow Jr.

Like the move. Most important thing for the Pats offense is to get Connolly back healthy. BB did all he could IMO to "plan" for the TE position, signed a bunch of TEs as back ups and they got injured. It happens. Hopefully Kellen learns the offense quick. Go Pats.

I'm more interested in who's spot Winslow will take. We can easily assume Hooma or the fullback as the first ones out, but I would not be surprised to see a shocker, like IR for Hernando. Nothing this team does surprises me.

So who's your pick to leave?

mine: Hilliard

Hernandez will be back after the bye, at the latest - can't see him getting IR'd.

I think Hooma & Hilliard should both be gone. The FB position that McD has allocated for this roster needs to be re-thought. One of the TEs will have to play it, or one of the OL. It's not valuable enough to take up a dedicated spot on the 53. We should sign another WR, either Gaffney or Branch.

OK, so this means that Winslow is a better option than Fells.
Winslow, who has health concerns with his knees, and was not in camp.
Winslow, who does not know this offense.

That is not good news for Fells.
Same applies for Shiancoe.
Clearly Oh-Oh is not a receiving option either.

I like the move.

Not only do i think he can come in and give you something in the 2TE set until hernandez is back.....and i love the 2 TE set, which they are clearly committed to.....

but i think it indicates hernandez injury is short term, relatively, and they expect him to be back the bulk of the season; if hernandez was gone long term, you'd have to think they explore other options, begin to look other directions for the '12 offense

It's a smart signing, but more moves need to be made.

Not sure the two have anything to do with the other, IMO.

In spite of what some of the beat guys said this offseason, I don't see how Fells is the Hernandez backup. From what I've seen, he runs about a 4.9, and is on the bigger side. He's clearly the Gronk backup to me.

Shiancoe and Winslow both make for better Hernandez backups. In this 2TE offense, there are two very distinct positions.

What would you like to see? I assume one or both of Branch and Gaffney. Anything else?

I tend to agree with the building consensus here that Winslow is apt to be of greater value than Hilliard (really don't understand why this guy is on the roster) or Moo Moo (really, really don't understand why this guy is on the roster).

Also curious what's going on with Fells. Not entirely healthy?

Agreed. This is a smart signing, and the additional move needs to be Gaffney or Branch in here now.

I wouldn't mind if they could bring in someone who could help out the O-line too.
But I don't know who is out there other than Waters. I sure hope that they can get him to come back.

Interesting that so many people are calling him old and washed up with bum knees. The guy is 29, has started every game the last 3 years and has 218 receptions in that time.

The only concern is why he is on the street right now. Knowing his history, could be a boatload of reasons.

Short term fix.

Get him all the way to london and then cut him.

I found that very inetresting too...considering how the Two TE formation have emerged and he can catch with the Best of them. We have some very aoof the street acquisitions...this one just seen too good to be true. I mean Winslow caught 70 Balls quite a number of Teams with literally nobodys at QB throwing to him. Seriously this guy could spell Herandez if all is well.

Reported to be knee issue. Remember Pats had him in for a tryout before signing Hoomanawanui.

Makes sense for the Pats, then, if they really only need him for 4-6 weeks and don't really care if he can stay on the field for a full season.

At the cost of who Daniel Fells?? Fells couldn't outplay Winlows if he had a cane. If Winslow shows something he's here for the year mark it down. Winslow was a true TE/WR coming out of the U a better prospect than Hernandez coming out...don't sleep on him.:beatingcoming:

The hawks cut him without a settlement, yes? Doesn't that mean whatever it is isn't keeping him off the field? They do have Zach Miller and the rookie McCoy, maybe they felt good about those guys and didn't want to pay his salary?

Carter, if he's healthy
WR(s) if healthy - Branch, Gaffney, both
TE to replace #47 if they insist on keeping 500 TEs on the roster
Resolve the Waters issue, one way or another.

There's more that I'd hope he's pondering, but those are the top 4 IMO.

unless edleman or welker goes down, why again do they need branch?

unless lloyd goes down, what use is gaffney?
