Why so much fighting?

this game sounds like last weeks game....but we were the bucs.....but I do see the Lions out there ...wanting to prove something. But still ...we didnt bring out A game.... I am sure ...BB will be tearing them a new a__hole on monday.... Sometimes...you need a good whuppin to get you where you want to go...BTW those screens were killing us.... I am sure BB is go play some starters against the Giants....for there crappy performance...

Sometimes young teams don't know the difference between playing aggressively and just being chippy. The Patriots have been "the team to beat" for the better part of last decade and what little time we've had in this decade even though they haven't won any SB's recently. Teams still don't like them because they're the team that always wins. So, everyone wants to punch them in the mouth (so to speak) whenever they play against them.

Young teams like the Lions think that they need to show they're not afraid of the bully. Suh has definitely given them an edge. I don't mind it, though. As long as they don't injure anyone, whether it's a Pat or some player from another team.

I hope they go 0-16 again!

I'm pretty sure the ref was a rookie. Think one of the CBS broadcasters said it was his first NFL game as a ref.

No, it was Carl Cheffers, whose been a ref since 2001.....
As for who thre the flag linesman, SJ,BJ or FJ, two are officials since 2004 and two since 2009.

Suh got fined $20K last WEEK for body slamming Andy Dalton. I'd bet he's getting another FedEx letter from Mr. Goodell lightening his wallet....

Suh is bad ass. He doesn't display good sportsmanship apparently but when it comes to football he is already becoming one of the best. There's not one Pats Fan that wouldn't forgive and forget if he came to this team. He's changing the losing culture of the Detroit Lions in a hurry and has that team going in the right direction. Amazing skills.

Refs blew the call, and a few others, but who cares? It's just a preseason game and not like we showed our hand defensively in that game. My opinion BB has seen all he has needed to see regarding our defense and will unleash it against Miami Sept 12th.

My main concern is can Dante and BB come up with a better blocking scheme to axe out the bruising blitzing teams like Detroit and the Giants? And a lesser degree the Jets and Ravens?

Brady resembled, dare I say, bledsoe, when faced with pressure up the middle last night. Sacks and short throws bounced at receivers' feet. It was a miracle that Mr. Gisele didn't get a broken bone last night. Hopefully Messrs Brady, Belichick, Scarnechia, come up with a way to protect Brady in the face of a good four man front....dare I say that if they had a running back better than Green Ellis this would not be a problem....every time I see a debacle like last night, like the playoff game against the Exit 16Ws last sseason, the SB in 2007 - games in which the offensive line cannot pass protect, I LONG LONG LONG LONG for the days when this was a RUN first team with Corey Dillon, and to a lesser degree, Antowain Smith.....

You think Suh will be? I highly doubt it. We were the instigators after all.
The camera doesnt really show what led to what happened.

Good teams rise to the occasion.....Pats looked lost on both sides of the ball most of the night...not worried about run D but unless they can get to the QB fast..and protect against the screens, they will be losing games to the better teams in the league......which means playoff games...

The game film will be an excellent teaching tool for BB.....and taking the heat for the players stinkeroo performance was classy ......
I know, damn them for nmot rising to the occassion of a preseason game, we are doomed

To say the offensive line was not concerning would be a lie. They were dominated but I can't help but wonder if the adjustments were made that were needed? They moved to a shotgun at times, didn't matter, the pressure kept coming. Didn't notice TE's helping out all that much. I can't fathom this team not having a sound blocking scheme against the likes of teams with good to elite defensive lines like Detroit and the Giants. If this is gonna become the norm than why even go to the playoffs because your bound to run into a team like this again? Bottoma line, the coaches and players gotta do better.

Anybody would look like Bledsoe if their O-line played as poorly as Bradys did last night. The RT guard might have well been a card board cut out. And koppen wasn't much better. Don't blame it on Brady, every time Brady looked up Suh was in his face.

How to minimize the effect of those stud dlines the Pats will face? Greatly reduce the amount of 2nd and 8+ and 3rd and 6+ this team seems to have so often when Green Ellis/Woodhead gain their two yards on CONVENTIONAL run plays. I don't know about everyone else, but these two guys seem to get an inordinate amount of their yards, especially Woodhead, when the Pats do that inside handoff in obvious passing situations.
Also, how 'bout becoming a team that runs 40+ times and passes 20-25 times a game again? That was the formula for winning Super Bowls......
It's probably been said over and over, but this team CANNOT line up and pick up 10 yards on the ground in three downs inside four minutes in the fourth quarter like they used to be able to do with Smith and Dillon. This is why I was hoping they would try to make a move for Brandon Jacobs. He's a Beast, he doesn't have a ton of miles on him because he's split carries his entire career, and he's better than Woodhead and Ellis combined...yes, I know, water under the bridge.....

I agree, BJGE and his 2 yards in a cloud of dust doesn't make any DLine honest, especially one as good and aggresive as Detroit's. If Ridley played last night, I think he would have made a huge difference in slowing down that pass rush. To be honest, I would rather see him in the backfield than Benny, he brings much more to the table, especially catching passes in the flat and making guys miss.

Shouldn't matter. There's no rule against a little pushing or shoving after a play. Punches, on the other hand, are supposed to be an instant ejection and a fine. The refs, as they tended to all night, completely blew the call. I don't expect the league office to do the same, though.

There are exceptions though. For example, when Sean Taylor spit in Michael Pittman's face, Pittman retaliated with a nice hard uppercut to Taylor's face in front of two referees, but it was Taylor who was ejected and later fined.

The replay never showed us exactly what was going on that prompted Suh to lash out, and it would amaze me if the referees somehow missed Suh's right hook instead of choosing to ignore it.

The reason there was so much fighting was that Detroit was treating this game like their super bowl or a revenge game....they were nasty...totally uncalled for in a pre-season game. I'll bet Tom and the rest of the crew are really sore today

This is true.

I was at the game and the crowd was as intense as the 2002/5 AFCCG's I attended.

I agree that this part of it. The Lions want that intensity to carry into the season.

The camera doesnt really show what led to what happened.

From what I could see Det # 94 grabbed mankins around the collar AFTER THE PLAY; pulled Mankins toward him and did something (can't see). that is when Logan grabbed his facemask and pulled him down. But Suh engaged and was starting to swing his fist before mankins had even finished pulling Jackson down.

So I guess the old rule of dont be the second guy still holds. First and Third illegal acts dont seem to matter to the refs.

Thanks for your the useless ideas.

Main points of the game.

Offensive drives were negated by penalties. Tough to continually go 2/20 1/25......

There was obviously no gameplan. To handle a blitzing defense, you go hurry up. My guess is they were working on throwing the ball downfield.

If your reserve guard could handle Suh, he wouldn't be a reserve. Suh is probably the best DT in the game.

Ridley and Vereen were drafted for this type of game.

I used to like Suh. He was my fav player in last year's draft after I saw him dominate the entire Texas O line. But seeing him trying to instigate fights with Pats player over and over again, screw him.

I would LOVE a player like Suh on my team. Mean as a Mike Vick Pittbull on the field, affable off of it. A great talent. Perfect.

Pretty hard to throw the ball downfield with no pass protection and no downfield threat.

Still think Ochostinko is going to be Joey Galloway part duex. Nice guy and all, but he's not going to fit.

BTW, O-line depth is just depth. Doesn't mean it's good depth. What makes me smile, however, is Dante Scarnechhia. Him, I trust.
