Can we beat this team?

I don't want to hear the "any given Sunday" b.s. so just forget it

In all honestly im not sure we could beat this team if they didn't play terrible.....
Brady would have to throw for 400 yards and 4 tds most likely.

The way our line is playing i just don't know.

other than the chargers, i have no doubt we can beat anyone.

Why wouldnt we beat the Chargers? Why would it revolve around Bradys passing yards and the offense? We would beat them by playing strong defense, like we have all year, and taking advantage on offense of their defensive weaknesses, which definitely exist, particularly in the secondary.
Offensively we would move the ball consistently by using the run to set up the pass.
The biggest stength of th eChargers is their running game. One of if not the biggest strength of the Pats is stopping the run.
I think Tom Brady agasint that defense is a much better bet that Philip Rivers against ours.
Because of our run D, and SDs reliance on running, SD may be one of the most favorable matchups we have.

Statistically their defense is mediocre, especially against the run. Assuming our DL is intact, we could actually have an edge in the running game even though they have Tomlinson. And I'd take Brady over Rivers. San Diego could certainly beat us but the teams that scare me more are the great defensive teams and the ones with exceptional passing games.

Any given Sunday.

Because I don't think we can run on them.
Because I'm not sure we can stop Tomlinson
Consistently moving the ball with the run against one of the best defenses in the league is easy to say but ill believe it when it happens.....

The comparison of Brady to Rivers has nothing to do with this.

I haven't watched them much but their mediocre 4.1 YPC against says otherwise.

You asked if we can beat them - how can the QB matchup have nothing to do with it ?

Football Outsiders stats also say we're better against the run than they are :

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef.php

We're ranked 10th against the run, they're ranked 16th. It's more than evened out by their #1 ranked rushing offense and our 15th although I think with a healthy Maroney and Dillon we're probably better than that. Our run numbers are washed down a bit by game plan games like Minnesota.

The same link has interesting numbers on how teams' D does against certain types of WR. Surprisingly we're #3 against TE - big for SD. Their numbers say #2 WR and passes to RB are what we're bad at. SD against the TE ? 16th. Gates may be better than Watson but the matchup may make them more even.

Merriman would have a field day against Light or Kazsur, and who would Brady throw to? caldwell? please, we have no recievers who can get seperation so all they have to do is stack the box and pressure Brady, just like last week, until i see something different itis what it is

i should have known someone would say this.

You asked for it.

And an inane thread deserved an equally inane (yet very true) response.

Inane as in lacking sense, significance, or ideas?

explain how it is inane.

I realize you are just trying to sound smart and thought no one would call you on it.

You seem bitter that i think we would have major problems with this team.

But the Patriots in the playoffs?? no no no that's not significant:cool:
next time try a little harder if you are going to try and sound smart.

And please try to use the right words..... even though it was amusing.:singing:

Just like we wouldn't be able to do anything against that impenetrable Chicago defense either

explain how it is inane.

You mean explain how it is not inane?

Impossible.

(Hint: read your post over. Read AJ's response. Read BelichickFan's repsonse. Get a clue.)

one game at a time...we might have to face the red hot bengals first...

We can't beat this team ;)

Unless the offense can become productive consistently against a good team I don't see them going anywhere. it is sputtering right now. the Patriots are going to go only as far as the offense brings them.

As for the chargers, I'd be afraid of merriman.

Unfortunately it is not all about statistics. I have seen us struggle against San Diego before and this team is much better than their team last year. Also, lately our O-line has been pitiful. I'm not sure how we would stop Merriman.

I understand that you dislike me, but pretending it is all about statistics is ridiculous.

again you are trying far to hard to be smart.

Just read it and answer.. if you can't answer then don't.

but if you are going to attempt to be clever, please at least use words correctly.

May i suggest a Thesaurus?

but Brady is better than Rivers so what am i thinking even bringing this up?

Belichick vs. Schottenheimer and his rookie QB? Yeah, I like their chances if they can stop LT.

Agreed.

LT looks unstopable though.

Marty is a moron, which is nice so that would definitely help us out.
