I know the move I want them to make and right now I think they could pull it off. If I'm not mistaken Ngata is under the franchise tag and I don't think the Ravens have the room right now to match an offer. Sign him and give up the 2 Firsts. Nastiest DL in football.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago and love the idea. There is very little talent left in FA other than the franchised players. They can have pick 32 the next two years, we still have New Orleans pick this year and two 2's, maybe trade a 2012 2nd for a 2013 first.

Not crazy about Roth at all, especially with his overinflated sense of worth.
Lofa Tatupu's game has slipped a bit lately but might be worth a 1 year $2 million contract. Other than that, not much out there.

I can't guess who Belichick might be able to secure.

I wouldn't have guessed that we'd sign Ochocinco, Haynsworth, and Ellis.

I've been rooting for us acquiring Ochocinco since the meeting at the pro bowl, but I didn't think it would happen.

So who's available that might fit those needs?

Since we are all making guesses I'm throwing one out that I think could happen given:

1) Player plays CB - a position his current team has upgraded through free agency
2) BB has traded with this team several times before
3) Player already is familiar with the Patriot System.

His name of course would be Asante Samuel. Who knows...

100% no. His only talent is 'name recognition'. And I don't mean people recognize his name, I mean he memorizes all the WR when he's staring at the back of their jersey after he failed to do his free lancing stunt.

i would not mind the pats giveing the eagles a 3rd round pick for samuel,

If the front office has finished making big moves for the offseason, I think the smartest thing to do with the cap space would be to take on as much of Mankin's salary as we can this year. This will free up more cap space in the future to sign guys like Mayo, Welker and Vollmer. This is what the Eagles were talking about doing with Vick, extending him, but not reducing the cap hit for this year when they have space, to create more space for the future.

This.

cannot see a spending spree with that cap money.

The FO will use it wisely. Maybe pay Mankins a few dollars more. May sign a one year deal with Free agent.

But Brady is due 2 or 3 million more next year. As are some others. Do not see it being used on a big trade.

i think if matt roth, who i wanted them to sign, was this great signing, he would have signed with a team already... happy with the team we have, if we trade for osi, who this knee thing scares me now, fine but it seems to much of a risk, take care of our own, welker or mayo or vollemer....

we werent going to pay him what the eagles gave him back then. So why would we trade a pick, and pick up his over inflated contract now? No way this trade happens.

We clearly could still use front seven help as well as help on the OL.

I certainly agree that we could extend Welker. It is a year early for Mayo, although I would be fine with such a move.

agreed. Im still not sold on the RG position. Anyone know of a guard that could be aquired in a trade, and not cost a fortune?

We have to be thinking about Tatupu, right? He makes perfect sense for us.

One area of the roster that could really use an upgrade is that OLB spot that Guyton is probably playing in the 4-3. Ideally we could use a guy who could handle MLB as well. I know they like Fletcher and Guyton. But there are some good veteran linebackers out there. Tatupu is probably the best, but guys like Stephen Cooper, Kawika Mitchell, and especially Kirk Morrison are also still out there. Even Keith Bulluck, as much as I can't stand the guy, can still play a little.

They were looking at Crowder and Koutovides, and it can't just be for special teams.

Lastly, and people are going to laugh at this idea, there's Darren Sharper. He's a hundred years old, but would you trust him more than Brand Meriweather? Debatable at least.

I could understand the money saved with the Mankins deal not being spent, because there was no way to predict it would happen and there may not be players available to spend it on.

But they just finalized the deal with Mankins, why would they "surprise themselves" with extra cap room rather than front-loading it more at this point without a plan to spend the money? They know that they have some key players due for paydays in the years to follow (e.g. Mayo & Vollmer next year -- NOT this year, they never extend that early).

Some vets in their final contract years to contemplate:

Welker
Koppen
Connolly
Sanders
Meriweather
Green-Ellis
Guyton
Wilhite
Ninkovich
Moore

That's £23m in cap money tied up this year which will be available next year.

I don't think it's Osi because of all the other moves along the front seven. There's too much being put in place with too many people right now.

But a fresh face at safety to play alongside Mr. Chung would be cool. No idea who that might be.

Mg, you really do Miguel an injustice with a thread like this. He clearly states that his cap estimates are just that and based largely on information from a media who don't always initially report things correctly where new deals are concerned. It turns out that Chad got a $4.5M signing bonus per Reiss' updated information so that is proratable over the 3 year deal increasing his 2011 cap and some of Albert's $4M+ in incentives are LTBE and Miguel presumed we borrowed $3M from the future because we appeared to be so close to the cap after the Ellis signing... And Anderson's deal is now reported by Reiss for one year at $1.375M so we are possibly/likely closer to $4-5M under the cap pending the structure of Mankins deal. And that deal may well not free up much cap space now in favor of remaining manageable for the long haul.

AdamJT13 has also stated that teams will have adjusted caps as in the past. We don't yet know what ours was adjusted to. They usually adjust up but can go down as it's based on reconciling charges against the 2009 cap.

Good point, plus isn't the cap going to grow each year?

There are some older vets on the DL , as well as Koppen on the OL who probably should be replaced shortly.....How will Haynesworth work out? Will he be motivated all season and be a terror? Will he break down?

Will Ocho be able to come in an be effective? Is Carter one of the solutions or a band aid?

Still lots of questions to be answered on a Patriot team that has be revamped from last years 14-2 team.....

On paper...they look almost unbeatable, but that's why they play the games....

I do believe there is one more move that BB is going to try and make.....not sure who, but they have the resources (draft picks) and the $$$$ to go and get just about whomever BB wants.....but will he pull the trigger and gamble?

Stay tuned

Well yes, but you have to replace them all! Even if a few of them have backups in the wings so that you can hope to slide a cheap young player in as the new backup, it's still 10 players including 6 starters.

EDIT: actually, i'm not totally certain on Connolly and Moore's UFA status...

Sign Wes, Connolly, either Sanders or Meri, BJGE, Ninko and Moore...

Going to put this in all caps bold so some of you of may get it before going on further FA sprees...

WE DO NOT HAVE $11.5M IN CAP SPACE. PROBABLY CLOSER TO $4-5M. $7-8M IF YOU PRESUME WE ALREADY BORROWED THE $3M IN CAP CREDIT FOR VETERANS, WHICH IS SOMETHING I WOULD NOT PRESUME AT THIS TIME.
