It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Since Sanchez barfed on his shoes last year in Foxboro, they've gone 15-4. Rex get his boys to play hard and they've won in the process. We don't need to like it, but you've gotta respect that.
They are winning which is all that matters, but when you live on the edge vs. bad teams you don't want to poke a sleeping bear in what might be the hottest team in the NFL right now in the Pats.
Rex has his team winning, but it is all about championships. And right now the way they are playing, I don't know if they can beat playoff caliber teams. They need to show that either they can stop living on the edge every week (and beating on one of the worst teams in the league in the Bengals doesn't show much) or that they can live on the edge and still beat the best teams in the NFL doing so.
Look, love him or hate him, there's a few things about Rex Ryan:
1. He's a good/great (not all-time great) coach. This isn't news. Trent Dilfer is a Superbowl champion because of his defenses. And let's not pretend his mentorship/system didn't contribute to how great a player Ray Lewis became. (I'm talking on-field here, obviously.) The Jets are also winning games. Their defense is still the best in NFL too. And they're winning tough games. If that was the Pats winning all those close games we'd be saying "that's what the great teams do" but since it's them we're saying "they're not really elite." Look I HATE the jest and by extension I have to hate their coach. But that's sports hate and I don't let it cloud my vision to the fact he's doing a good job.
2. The trash talk is his style just like being abrasive with the media is BB's. They're both valid, and both styles anger as many people as it does endear them. Yin/Yang. Both styles translate to the team too. The Jets play with a TON of confidence. We play with GREAT execution. Both are ways to win.
I mean, let's put this in perspective. Is he REALLY harder to deal with than Mangini? How about Dungy? I hated seeing Parcells on the sideline a LOT more than Ryan-- especially because I felt like he stole Curtis Martin from us. And at that point in time, I thought our franchise would be doomed for decades. (Pete Caroll era still haunts me.)
By all means be annoyed if bravado just bothers you in general. And feel free to hate on a Jest coach because he's part of the Jest. But I can't recall the last time someone had a REAL criticism of the guy other than that he's loud and fat. And if that reflection in the mirror I'm seeing is accurate, the same could be said about me too. So maybe that's why I can see beyond it better than some others. But give the guy his props as a coach. He IS a good football coach. (I think he's a better coach than his dad and brother too.)
The thing I hate about Rex Ryan more than anything is the turtleneck/vest combo he wears 24/7. It pisses me off to no end.
Rex was a defensive line coach in 2000 when they won the SuperBowl, I think it's a pretty big stretch to say he contributed to the growth of Ray Lewis as football player. Guy was already a beast when Rex got there in 1999.
That 2000 defense was Mike Nolan.
And no, the Jets defense isn't the best in the NFL this season. Actually, their pass defense has been, at times, pretty porous.
I hated his dad's arrogant ass and I hate his. But I wouldn't care if Mother Teresa was coaching the Jets, I just don't like the Jets head coach, period.
Buddy Ryan was something else- but like his son, players loved playing for him.

Yeah, everything about him....truthfully everything about those 85 Bears just pissed me off. Their coaches, their players, their stupid videos. I enjoyed watching Ryan fail as a head coach. I wish his son would follow a similar path but it hasn't worked out so far, unfortunately.
FYI...2000 D was Marvin Lewis.
I thought that he got jobbed in Philly though. He inherited and old team and built a great defense and did well in the draft. The problem is that in the years they went 10-6, 10-6, 11-5 and 10-6 and 11-5, you had the Montana 49ers winning 2 SB and the Giants, Skins and Cowboys winning one each. Brutal.
So the legacy of Buddy Ryan is that he was a great DC, good in his 1st HC job but a egomaniac wackjob.
Add me to that list too. His yapping is comical but it is producing results. Nothing speaks louder than victories. At first the guy was pure irritation, however listening to him at this point, you have to take what he says within context of being a sarcastic loudmouth with a sense of humor who wins games.....from that POV it's entertaining.
Rex Ryan is doing a good job, with lots of talent.. no matter what he says or does still think he is an idiot.
Ditto. The guy's a great coach, and has a style that couldn't be much more different than BB.
In the end I'd rather have my team coached by BB, but Rex Ryan is sure entertaining.
He didn't get jobbed in Philly, he just didn't care about the offense. He basically gave the ball the ball to Randall Cunningham and said "do whatever you want". Had they had a competent QB coach who could have groomed Cunningham or made the offense more than just an afterthought to go with a dynamic defense, they might have won a playoff game.. Cunningham pretty much admitted that he was lost in the beginning.
