Moss Postgame Presser Meltdown

Manny is a lot like Moss in the sense that they really rather the media just leave them the F alone, and they never would. It's sad, I used to like sports radio but never again, not in Boston. In the Manny situation, it's really hard for the fans not to eat it up. They got bombarded from only one side constantly.

I dunno, it shouldn't be that hard. People just need to understand that the media is comprised of human beings, and these human beings have their own agendas that don't necessarily overlap with the team's. And like anyone else, they can have moments of poor judgment. Same goes for players: this wasn't good judgment by Moss, but it wasn't some grand scheme either. He's human.

Once you accept that the media isn't necesarily right, and isn't necessarily interested in being right, the rest kinda falls into place.

I thought that a few clear messages came out in the rambling/musing by Moss.

1) Moss likes playing for the patriots.

2) Moss intends to play in the nfl after this year.

3) Moss understands that the nfl is a business.

4) Moss does not expect to be here for the 2011 season.

5) Moss bears zero ill feeling for anyone on the team or in the Front Office.

6) In 2010, Moss will again play as well as he can, again being a key member fo this offense, again be among the best in the league, and again be maligned by some fans and some of the media.

And yes,

7) Moss wishes that there could be away for him to be signing a market-based extension this week.

There is nothing I like better during the season than hearing from my favorite player and I am kind of sad that Randy will not be talking to the media again. But I understand and agree. That said, I hate the media in this city. As a fan, I deserve much better.

yes yes and yes plus he is trying to diffuse a possible sticky situation before it occurs. You know if he had not spoken to the media and had a game like Carolina last year the media would have ran wild with Moss not trying because of his contract status stories. I give him credit for trying to nip it in the bud...

Q: Do you understand how bad this looks after a 38-24 win to stand up here and talk about the contract?

RM: I can honestly say this, ‘I don’t really talk much.’ And I don’t want to take away from the win. But I think that before this season gets started, I don’t want it to be week 10, week 11, week 12, and we’re sitting here talking about a contract. What I want to let you all know is, I know this is the last year of my contract and I’m here to play it out. And I want to play some damn good football. That’s basically what I’m trying to tell you. I don’t want to wait until week 12 or 13. Every week is not going to be good for me. I have two and three guys on me sometimes. I don’t wait until week 9, 10 or 11 that I have a bad game, and now the tables turn on me. ‘Oh he doesn’t want to be here.’ That’s what I don’t want to happen. I’m not disrespecting the organization. I’m not disrespecting my teammates for the victory that we had today against the Cincinnati Bengals. But I think that this is my first time talking this year, and I want to get it out there. I’m definitely not being disgruntled or disrespectful. Like I said, this is my first time talking.

I think you have it pretty spot on there.

I read and heard that he went off at the fans, watched it and then wondered where he 'went off at the fans'. Mediots already spinning it up to make him look bad and there are plenty of idiots that will read what the mediots write and take it as correct without ever checking things out themselves, and sadly some of those will be New England fans who will probably boo moss if they are at Gillette Stadium anytime soon.

Randy is not exactly the most articulate person in the world, but it doesn't take an Einstein to figure out what he means. He wants a contract from the Patriots.

Exactly! He wants to be a Patriot moving forward, but he has a problem articulating that. And he HATES the media! Can't really blame him there.

I want to give Randy a big hug.. and a contract extension. I want him to retire here as a Patriot and go into the HOF as a Patriot. (edit) and as a champion!

Yes, lets buy him a beer.

As usual, Moss' press conference was highly entertaining. The guy is not idiot.

As far as the business side, say hello to my little friend, his name is "The Franchise Tag"...

I think he still has Oakland in the back of his mind. Not having a chance to win at all, no matter how good he is. He wants to stay here because with Brady and the coaching we always have a chance.

It wasn't the right time to bring all this up. But as long as Brady keeps playing like he did today (IMO Brady had his best game in 3 years, his numbers would have been even better if not for drops) Moss will be fine on the field.

He said that there were many fans who seem to want to see him fail, then pointedly thanked his true fans for believing in him. Which is totally fine, I thought he was right to do it. I wouldn't like being called a dog-faker for no good reason either :p

Welker, lead the team in rec and TD's today not Moss, so if he is not the #1 WR or being paid like one then he will not be happy so unless he gets a ring this year i say he will not come back next year.

huh? what?

While the forums were down, I took a few minutes to email the four sports shows that I can listen to on my commute asking them not to focus on this tomorrow. Maybe if enough people ask, they will talk about the fast defense, the high flying offense, welker's remarkable recovery, the colts loss, or something that will not force me to tune in to news radio.

What? You're saying Welker is our number one?
Just because of today? And because of that, we won't pay Moss?

Curran threw him a lifeline early on, and he didn't grasp that, either... This wasn't his press conference. This was the Patriots first post game press conference of the season after all the criticism and panning of everything from Belichick's drafting to the FO handling of negotiations to the talent of the secondary to the lack of pass rush, to how they would be lucky to make it as a wild card.... Even players in the locker room were stunned, off the record of course. Randy can blame the media all he wants. He remains his own worst enemy. I guess that's part of the reason why he fired the agent who had spent half Randy's lifetime trying to keep him on an even keel and put him in the right situations. Because - and he actually said it - he has a family to feed... If he wanted endorsements someone should have told him that like contract extensions this is not the way you get them, particularly not here... Tom has an 8 month old and a toddler at home to take care of and clean up after, BB has an entire organization to run. Both have had his back through thick and thin. They deserved better. Even Kraft has had his back, only to be stabbed in it twice in a week. This was not his first time talking. It was his third. It better be his last regardless of who says what about him going forward. This organization is all about accountability. Randy spent 14 minutes rambling about himself in some half baked attempt to pre empt any. While Wes Welker waited to say how thrilled he was to be back and how important football was to him and how his contract wasn't something he worried about because those things take care of themselves if you do your job.

Some of you need to enroll in enablers anonymous. Or stick to non team oriented passtimes like fantasy football.

A joke, right?

Still, he also mentioned that he is "old" more than 5 times during that presser. His agent must have been cringing because none of what he did there helped his bargaining position whatsoever, be it with the Pats or in FA.

He may have been holding out on the media for a long time, but that was an unfortunate (for him business-wise) explosion of diarrhea of the mouth.

You guys are overrating to this way too much... sure, it was out of the blue and not really needed but not unheard of for a player in the last year of his contract to sound of a bit.

I noticed during the game that Brady sat next to him the entire game, not something I have noticed before. Sure, he sits next to him a lot during games but never for the entire game like today. I hoped that was a good sign.

On the other hand, times like these make me glad I don't live anywhere near Boston. The starved dogs... hmm I mean the media will have a field day with this.

I just saw the Post Game Conference and Moss didn't "breakdown" nearly as bad as you guys are saying.

You're overreacting worse than the media does.
