We need young offensive players!

Mankins is a RFA this season, just so you know.

And the fact that there are so many options to improving the O-Line speaks to its strength and how it should be one of the last things the franchise focuses on improving.

I'm well aware of that.

I wonder if Joique Bell RB ... top small school RB is on the Patriot radar???

Like 5'11" ... 232 ... can run and catch ... if he can be taught to block I say take him.

We dont need a running back, I dont understand why everyone is concerned about bringing in another back. I think we need to get rid of one instead of adding one...

Taylor and Morris are not locks for next season. They are older. If neither of them return, that leaves us with Maroney, Faulk, and BJGE. Running back may be a need.

Atleast one of Morris and Taylor will be back. I would like to see us have RB's next season as Maroney as our feature back, Taylor as a short yardage/end of game back, Faulk as our 3rd down back and the BJGE in a role similar to what its been his whole career here.

Our RB corp qualify for medicare and AARP. Enough of that.

Out of the free agent RBs that are out there who would you rather bring in to start instead of Maroney?

If we drafted a RB to start in 2010 I feel like it would be a waste of a 1st round pick since we have greater needs.

Maroney to me is someone who is a question mark. He's either showing flashes of his potential or regressing, and God knows he has an innate talent for sparking threads on this forum that goes for pages and pages.

We need a RB that is a real RB with no question, like what Dillon was for us. He was a workhorse. We need this to protect Brady and reduce wear and tear on him.

Maroney has never got the chance to completely showcase his talent because he has really never been the feature back, he has always been sharing carries and hasnt been able to get into any rhythm running the ball. If Maroney is told that he is the starting/feature back I feel like his production will immediately increase. Knowing that he is sharing carries he tries to do too much sometimes to prove himself and get more carries.

We need a WR

I don't understand why people underestimate the issue.

Who knows what Moss will end up doing, Welker is hurt, who else is there?

We need playmakers and game changers. Someone with heart, and I don't care if they're 22 or 32. Someone like Leon Washington or Wes Welker. Someone who can invigorate the entire team and help turn the tide when things are bad.

Joique Bell ... small school RB.

5'11" ..... 200 lbs of muscle.

Real tough and driven kid.

averages 4.54 to 4.43 in the 40.

Could be had in the 3rd or he may slip to high 4.

If he can block then he's the guy to get.

Don't we already have that? His name is BJGE

No BJGE is closer to 235 and isn't that fast. He is almost a fullback at this point.

So, most of you in this thread are assuming the Patriots are going to totally change their style of offense to one that is run heavy--one that might even use a, gulp, fullback.

There's a difference between changing an offensive scheme to improve production, and figuring out ways to mix plays better, become less predictable, to boost production. mcDaniels was good at the latter.

This is why I think looking for a RB is a waste of time. There are 4 guys on the team will fill in decently while they figure out what to do with the passing game.

In the meantime, read up on your college wide receivers. Seriously, take a close look at what probable 2nd and 3rd rounders such as Arrelious Benn and Golden Tate and Mardy Gilyard can do for you. These are only a few of the young guns. There are many others. Not to mention later round speedsters like Jacoby Ford and Marcus Easley, who has a rare combination of size (he's huge), strength, speed, and hands. His route running is questionable. But this kid is a 4th or 5th at best, and he's the next Vince Jackson.

Does anyone remember that when Jackson came out of a small school without much coaching at the position that he was considered a bust?

Look to the draft for young WRs. That more than anything will extend Brady's career. You're not going to draft a young RB who will aid Brady more than Maroney and Fred Taylor. Brady will be aided by throwing to REAL #2 WRs instead of Sam Aiken and Matthew Slater. That's what's going to help Brady. I'm glad this draft is deep in WRs.

Seriously, just look up the scouting reports on Benn, Tate and Gilyard, and then have a look at Ford and Easley.

I've never said that we don't need a WR.

I think a legitimate running game would also help the passing game quite a lot. Coming out this year are some really strong, powerful backs. Ingrahm from Ala will go too high but Dixon from Miss St. was all-sec and is a big, punishing runner as is Gerhart from Stanford. One of them should be available in the 2nd round. Add OG Iupati from Idaho who is a big, talented mauler and, presto, you have a REAL running game again.

If the true measure of a football player was the amount of threads he generated maroney would be an all pro every year.
