McGowan says "hello", along with TBC, Fred Taylor and, arguably, Leigh Bodden, and Moss and Welker were both trades, although Welker's trade was a result of his RFA status.
There's a difference between loving the drafts and acting as if they've been terrible. There's a middle ground that people seem to be avoiding for no good reason.
Name me the team that does this perfectly, and you'll be naming a team that's never existed.
OK. I'll give you Bodden considering our Secondary, McGowan, I guess I'll be neutral on that, but the fact that TBC is being highlighted as a good signing is a testament to just how far our defense has fallen. I like TBC but him being our best pass rusher is more to do with how bad our outside LB's are then it has to do with him being good.
I understand he had a sprained knee but hasn't it healed already? We don't hear anything about it.
Also, it's not that hard to adjust to a 4-3 considering he played that in college. That's a poor argument.
I'm pretty sure the only utility Ugoh has is warming up the bench.
Serious, if you dont like it, dont watch it. Dont complain about it and bring everyone else down.
Your argument was good free agent signings. TBC was a good free agent signing, and McGowan has been a tremendous free agent signing to date. He's been one of the best of the Belichick era.
IF you throw shi* against a wall long enough, eventually a piece of it will somewhat stick to some part of that wall.
Monty Beisel
Duane Starks
Tank Williams
Fernando Bryant
Joey Galloway
Greg Lewis
Alex Smith
Donald Hayes
Doug Gabriel
Derrick Burgess
and on and on and on
You re-up guys like James Sanders and that stiff RT Kazcur and we're supposed to kiss BB's rings ? Not me. If it looks like shi* and it smell like shi*, the chances are.....it is in fact shi*
It is time to get a good personnel guy in the FO and let BB stick to just coaching and defensive game plans.........
Belichick added Bodden, Springs, Banta-Cain, Burgess and McGowan to the defense. We'd have a losing record without these players. And BTW, none cost us much cap money.
Agree with almost everyone. 2006-2008 was average. 2009 looks very promising.
I think 2010, 2011 are crucial in keeping the playoff-caliber team alive, if those drafts bomb, its over.
Only Burgess hasn't really played well. Even he is playing well enough to deserve a roster spot.
Im just putting out some simple facts there buddy. This is what this thread is about isn't it? Now if you want to be a Pats suck up and not be objective to the move they make, this isn't the place to be.
I don't think you realize that the average football career is something like 3 years. Going back over 11 years doesn't do you ANYTHING. Especially when you can't be bothered to put them into perspective. Here, read the red and get educated a bit.
Actually, if you go beyond just putting up the names from 10 years ago and such to see how long some of the players were in the NFL and playing, you get a much better perspective. Thank you for providing me exactly what I am talking about. A list of players with absolutely no perspective.
You failed on two fronts. The first is that you didn't compare it to the other 31 teams in the league. And the second, you didn't bother to provide information needed to determine if the players made it out of Training Camp or were on the team for 3 years and making an impact during that time.
2009 was a fabulous draft. 2003-2005 were very good drafts. We got excellent value at the #32 position in 2005, which was the weakest draft of this decade - Mankins, Hobbs, Sanders, Cassel, and an extra 3rd in 2006.
Our 2006-2008 drafts had issues, as far as I am concerned:
1. 2006. Maroney was an OK pick, but he hasn't overwhelmed. The trade up for Chad Jackson bombed. Dave Thomas did nothing for us in 3 years at TE, and Garrett Mills was cut. O'Callaghan and Jeremy Mincey weren't particularly good picks. Gostkowski was by far our best pick. We could have picked up guys like TE Owen Daniels, DE Ray Edwards, DE Mathias Kiwanuka, WR Greg Jennings, CB Richard Marshall, and RB Maurice Jones-Drew.
2. 2007. Meriweather was a fine pick, and trading #28 for what turned out to be Mayo and Moss was brilliant. Trading our 2nd round pick for Welker was equally brilliant. But the rest of the draft stunk.
3. 2008. Mayo was a terrific pick. Trading #69 for a 2009 2nd round pick was also brilliant, though less so if Ron Brace turns out to be a dud. The result of the draft has been underwhelming - Terrance Wheatley at #62, Shawn Crable at #78, and Kevin O'Connell at #94 in particular. Jonathan Wilhite has done OK for a 4th round pick. Matt Slater was a reach. Gary Guyton was a steal as a UDFA.
