Cutler looks like crap

I admit. I was glad to see that the Broncos had won. McDaniels has ben through hell over there. Glad he got a bit of sunshine....

Agreed. That young man has a bright future and I wish him well, just so long as wishing him well doesn't impact the Patriot's success.. :)

Yep, pretty much a "year in review" type highlight reel of his career in Denver, wrapped into one game. You got the inopportune picks, horrible decision making under pressure and just enough of a hint of what could be that a coach will throw his career away trying to get 100% out of him. It isn't going to end well in Chicago if they don't find a few receivers that can catch a football.

That's really it in a nutshell. They were about to universally write him off after his first full season as a starter in Denver. Then came the off season diagnosis which supposedly explained everything and a year in which he put up a lot of empty yardage stats and suddenly he was cracking elite status again... Shanny lost his job over bad decisions, Jay was one of them. And yet last night over on the Broncos message board it was like a civil war between those who would prefer Cutler even in a loss over Orton and a win. Camp Cutler kept whining about what he could have done in McDaniels system while their counterparts tried in van to point out the fact that he is the antithesis of that system because of his consistently piss poor decisionmaking.

Nevertheless, the odds are that Cutler will rack up some big numbers over the course of the season mixed in with his poor decision making and inopportune gaffes, and will get voted to the Pro Bowl, where people will rave about his arm strength and lament that he doesn't have better WR talent around him in Chicago.

First game or not last night was Cutler all over. Very wild, wrong decisions followed by some good plays. What you see is what you get. Some coaches with the same mindset will like him but it's clear as day why McDaniels wasn't 100%.

Maybe, though his 43.2 QB rating last night isn't even a step toward an empty-stats season.

And frankly, the Bears' WR options really are terrible. Can somebody explain to me how the Bears keep fielding one of the weakest WR corps in the league year after year? The Patriots looked like that in 2006, so they aggressively restocked the position.

Good point. Listening to Collinsworth make excuses for the guy last night was sickening. Just calls it like it is Chris and don't insult our eyesight or our intelligence like that! Cutler has a million dollar arm and a two cent brain. To his credit Josh saw it walking in the door. It'll be interesting to see how many more gut punch INT's and whining little hissy fits everyone else needs to see before they recognize it too (that means you Peter King).

Some interesting observations and stats in MMQB. One of the problems Shanny had with Cutler early on was his renegade devotion to 6th rounder Marshall even as he failed to develop any rapore with the established WR's or the FA TE Shanny bought him. Seems he's taking a similar path in Chicago, creating his own binky unknown from Vanderbilt. Saw a little of that with Ben as a youngster (when he and El were devising their own plays sans OC/HC) though after year 2 he outgrew it (as El got sent packing...). Cutler is repeating the same mistakes wherever he goes. Tough to coach because coaches fear stiffeling the tools/talent that got them noticed...

Of his 36 throws, seven went to Olsen and Forte, with only one completion, total, to them. I mean, Hester, Olsen and Forte combined had three fewer balls thrown to them than did Earl Bennett, who had never caught an NFL pass until Sunday but who was Cutler's teammate at Vanderbilt. That distribution has to change in the coming weeks.

Adrian Peterson, Drew Brees not the only Week 1 impressive outings - Peter King - SI.com

He also talked to Josh about the Stokely play. Saved 6 seconds and multiple shots at the EZ by Palmer. They do cover end of half/game situational awareness and appreciate it when players prove they were listening.

Had a nice shout out to Mike Reiss as he heads to his new gig.

And some comments on tonights double header.

And a great tongue in cheek assessment in the wake of the Seymour deal:

I think, now that Bill Belichick has dispatched two men who helped him win three rings to the NFL's pasturelands -- Kansas City (Mike Vrabel) and Oakland (Richard Seymour) -- if I were Brady I'd be thinking, when my expiration date comes, Belichick's gonna send me to the Hamilton TigerCats.

Cutler was very vocal about having input with his personnel decisions with his receivers to the media this summer. It was believed because he wanted to make sure Bennett made the roster. I think Cutler listens to Tom Jackson too much and thinks he is actually better than Brady. I think you gotta have the status of a Brady or a Manning to have significant input on roster moves and even then I doubt those guys demand input.

Cutler made a big show about being dissed. His ego has created this situation and now he will fall flat on his face.

Unfortunately, he's so rich from his contract that it probably won't matter. What does he care? I'd like to see him out on the street.

I do like seeing the Bears lose though. Always.

Clark Judge of CBSSportsline on Cutler:

Now that's the Jay Cutler I know. Like Aaron Rodgers, he had one drive to win the game. Rodgers threw the game-winning touchdown pass; Cutler threw his fourth interception. There's a reason Cutler is 17-21 in the NFL and hasn't won anything since high school.

Sorry, I can't help but pile on to this guy. I hate guys who are full of themselves and think they are bigger than their team or the league.

Agreed. Cutler gives me an eye-ache. I quite enjoyed watching him stink it up last night.

Shouldn't be long before there is a website dedicated to Cutler-Face, should it?

You and Mr Judge no nothing! He is elite, seriously just look at his DVOA! His defense lost all those games!

Alright I'll stop. But I have to admit I enjoyed watching him throw those 4 picks last night. And the whole time I kept thinking about that thread. :D

Just noticed the banner at the top of the CBS page. Urlacher likely lost for the season... So no way it will be Cutler's fault...no matter how many picks he throws.

Cutler is from Illinois.

Isn't Illinois in the south. Just south of Mississippi I think. As a proud graduate of the public school system, I know these things.

This thread is a thinly veiled attempt at more McDaniels ball washing.

Seriously, just become Broncos fans already, it's amazing how much some stat whores still love a guy who doesn't even coach here anymore.

Or you could not miss McD as OC and hate on Jay Cutler. :snob:

Urlacher is out for the year according to PFT. Damn it, just when I thought it was Cutler's fault!

They did give up 21 points, those bums. I could understand it being Cutler's fault, if lets say, he threw a pick and a Packer defender ran it back to the 1 yard line, allowing for an easy TD or something.

For what it's worth, PFT just yanked the story.

I don't think so. As far as I know, the southern states are Georgia, Alabama, Richmond, Atlanta, South Carolina and South Dakota.
