Light, Crowder fined, not suspended

This seems pretty consistent with what the guy claiming to be Matt Light's brother said - and its good that the NFL confirms that Crowder instigated the fight.

Crowder deserved to get the beat down from Matt Light.. **truth inside*** - Sports and Racing - NFL Message Board - GameFAQs

He was talking trash - saying horrendous things about Matt's wife the whole game. How did he know Matt's wife? -he was givin info from Akin Ayodele who used to play with Matt at Purdue. Matt used to own Ayodele during practice hence Ayodele has held a grudge ever since.

Matt and his wife run one of the most productive NFL charities and are extremely giving and kind people. The trash talking had been going on the whole game, Light told the refs to end it or he was going to. So when Crowder lined up against Light on the field goal (which was out of formation for Crowder meaning that he purposely lined up against Matt to start crap) Light took the time to punish him for all of his crap. Hence why Crowder was smiling after he got punched in the face twice, and the refs ejected both of them.

Think about it, why would the refs eject Crowder if he wasn't deserving of punishment on that play. That ladies and gentleman is the truth whether you like it or not. I know this because... well look at my screen name.

Anyways vote for Matt Light in the pro bowl not only because he deserves to go this year (he's having an amazing season) but because he beats down @#$@#$ on the field and his charity that helps kids is awesome.

ESPN - New England Patriots' Matt Light, Miami Dolphins' Channing Crowder fined $15,000 for fight

According to league sources, both players, in addition to game officials, were interviewed by the league office. It was determined that Crowder verbally instigated the confrontation, but both men were assessed equal fines.

The fight occurred after Light blocked Crowder, whose helmet fell off, on Stephen Gostkowski's 30-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter.

Miami's Matt Roth knocked down New England's Russ Hochstein, forcing Light backward and into Gostkowski. When Light got up, he and Crowder pushed each other in the face. Light then grabbed Crowder's dreadlocks in his left hand and hit him three times on the head with his right.

Crowder broke free and ran away with a huge grin. Both received personal foul penalties and were ejected. As they walked off, Light smiled and Crowder raised his hands to elicit cheers from his hometown fans.

I'd love to see if it can be confirmed whether Crowder was saying things about Matt Light's wife.

You KNOW what he said must have been pretty bad when the NFL comes out and says he instigated it and gave the same fine to the guy who was getting pummelled as the guy who was doing the pummelling.

If that's the case I'm sure Crowder wouldn't mind if other players or fans started saying things about his wife and family members... maybe posting some choice words and rumors on messageboards, bringing signs to games etc... it's just gamesmanship after all... we're just trying to get into Crowder's head, and he really can't fault us for doing it.

Based on what we saw, I would have suspended Light for a couple of games and not fined Crowder. Crowder was fined for verbal instigation and getting up after having been beaten to the ground? Isn't ejection and a penalty sufficient for these actions?

Crowder's verbal instigation must have been very serious indeed. Light got the very minimum that he could have reasonably gotten. As someone else posted, the league is slapping the players on the hand, and indicating to Crowder that he deserved everything that he got.

See, that's what the rush to judgement gets you...

Apparently the league was made aware of a couple of things like Crowder inexplicably lined up opposite Matt for the first time in the game before that snap. Apprently he had some plan in mind that commenced with some highly personal trash talk and a blow of his own landed prior to losiing his helmet. When I saw him laughing as he trotted away from the fray I realized that he wasn't presenting a very convincing victim for Goodell to avenge...

As for the hair grabbing of the portion of the incident which is the only way Light got leverage to land a few as Crowder came up swinging initially, Goodell wants dreads gone and treated as part of the uniform in the absence of that agreement so on that basis Crowder wasn't going to get any phony sympathy based on Light landing more blows by virtue of his dread's grabbing, either...

I interpreted what I saw much differently. Crowder came up laughing, and Light barely gave him anything. Light could have chased Crowder down if it was a real fight, but he didn't. I think a fine is totally appropriate here, and suspensions would have been way overkill. Of course, the TV announcers made it sound like a knife fight, but they love authority and discipline. They're submissive perverts.

Re: Light, Crowder Fined, not suspended.

F*ck Goodell. After what he did to us last year he owes us about 5 of these.
And don't worry, this doesn't mean the snake in the grass isn't still waiting there.

I'm with that:mad: Fk him-he's still The Same Sheriff he's always been and far from trustworthy.

Crowder's known around the league and is apparently hated (according to a Fins fan who posted here during Fins Week-I believe it) so he's just another punk who got what he deserved and less:cool:

Matt Light's NEVER had an incident before like this, never, and is definitely NOT known as a punk-* brawler. He's been to the pro-bowl how many times, does a ton of charity work etc. The trash talk that went on last Sunday HAD to be pretty damn prolonged and NASTY.:mad:

Whatever-it's done and we didn't lose Matt so it's cool but still...Crowder and Porter are punks:banned:

Re: Light, Crowder Fined, not suspended.

Crowder and Porter are punks:banned:

You know, I think Crowder is essentially a good kid. He's competitive and he was competing hard with Light, but I don't think he's a punk. He doesn't talk to the press like Porter does, and he seems to have outgrown his College era indiscretions.

I have a hard time finding evidence today to call the kid names. Again, from what I saw, he came up laughing or smiling.

If you're talking trash about a man's family, you get what you deserve.

Matt should have pounded the little maggot so far into the sand, he would have awoken in China! :disagreement: Now I really can't wait until next season! Dead man Walkin.

I'd love to see if it can be confirmed whether Crowder was saying things about Matt Light's wife..

Memo to self.
Self, don't ever diss Matt Light's wife, and especially don't do it when he's locked and loaded during his Celebrity Shooting Charity Fundraiser.

Oh puh-lease! don't tell me that our players talk only about the Dalai Lama and world peace when they line up against the opponents.

While it is true that most football players talk smack, the ruling by the league indicates that they felt Crowder had crossed the line. Otherwise, based on what we saw, Light would have gotten a bigger fine than Crowder.

Vince Wilfork said in an interview the other day half the guys in the league (including our guys) talk smack, its just having fun, according to Vince. Its when certain guys cross the line (apparently theres an invisible line they're all aware of) that trouble starts, and Crowder crossed that line.

For example, telling Wilfork you're gonna steal and eat his Thanksgiving dinner. Wouldn't wanna go there. No siree!

Along those lines, way back in the 80s I got invited to a Pats dinner since my company was a Pats radio advertiser. I really enjoyed meeting the players and coaches of the then losing team. Sat next to the shall be nameless former DL of the Ben Dreith blow to the head call fame. Anyhow, I joked to his wife about eating his dinner when he was away from the table. She warned me very sternly that Ray takes his food VERY seriously.

Crowder is a turd in the punch bowl, and his mentor is astonishing me by doing something "constructive" to adjust the stupidity standard he works so hard to establish and maintain...

NFL.com Blogs Blog Archive Porter apologizes to teammates, Sparano
Porter personally apologized to Dolphins coach Tony Sparano for refusing to leave the closing minutes of Sunday’s 48-28 loss to the Patriots after he drew 15-yard penalties on back-to-back plays.

Not only did Porter apologize to Sparano, he apologized to the rest of his Dolphins teammates as well. Porter knows that what he did Sunday was wrong and he tried to take responsibility for it after the fact.

"Jthust a little ofth the top and a foo blood oooozing lumpsth and you'll looook liiike a wholllle new maaannn."

I'm thrilled that Light wasn't suspended, but at the same time a bit confused. The league fined Wilfork $35,000 for two things: 1) elbowing Cutler in the helmet in what they deemed a fashion that did not prove there was intent; and 2) for his reputation as a 'cheap' player...can't say I agree with this as I've seen just one play (the eye poke) that showed him to be anything but a hard, clean player (and I'm including the Losman hit in this...how do you deem a hit late when the player doing the hitting is on the ground--there's just no way for him to see whether the ball's been released or not).

Meanwhile, Light gets fined almost 1/3rd that amount, for essentially grabbing a dudes hair and repeatedly punching him in the face...what provoked this? A somewhat late, somewhat high hit from Crowder, and supposedly a whole lot of smack talking. I just don't get it...you have an on-field fight with multiple punches garnering a $15k fine, and what they deemed to be an elbow that may or may not have been intentional garnering a $35k fine. Talk about double standards.

I'll have to look for the articles again, but Joey Porter is famous for the most vulgar taunts involving players wives, mothers, daughters, sons and pets etc... to the point where most acknowledge he goes beyond what's acceptable, and even sending text messages to players leading up to games.

I think for the most part the players know how low class he is - but in this case it looks like Porter has been schooling Crowder and others, who really think they're smart and funny by doing it.

I don't think any of our players typically lower themselves to Porter and Crowder's level, - Porter and Crowder are in a class by themselves - though the Miami fans really seem to love that type of "gamesmanship".

I've got to imagine, that as far as trash talk goes, you leave family out of it. Once you start saying things like "I forcefully deflowered your daughter and wife" (But nastier) that's over the line. Saying "You f'n suck" doesn't.
