My overly hypothetical SF trade offer!

There is a price for everyone. If we were offered Willis and SF's next 10 #1 picks we would have to do it. The question is, what is the point that you would do it; just for fun.

Peter King suggested the Patriots wouldn't do it for Barrett Ruud and two #1s. Turn Ruud into Willis and move those #1s up . . .

Brady for Willis, a high #1 this year and an unknown #1 next year. Mayo and Willis in the middle. Draft one of the top ten studs in this draft, there's some DBs, OT that make me drool.

I'm not saying I'd do it - but I'd be REAL tempted. And this thread can be just for fun.
I'm inclined to agree. This is just for fun. What if, instead of Brady, we traded Cassel for a similar return? Say, Barrett Ruud and Aqib Talib? :D

It's tougher with Cassel because his value will move up and down as he plays. But, right now, I just saw Peter King say he'll get about $10M a year. What is a proven $10M a year QB worth ? I hate to end up disappointed but if a team is willing to pay a QB that much I fail to see how we wouldn't get a #1 pick out of it. FOR SURE a #2.

Shut up!!!! Shut up!!!! Shut up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For once, I completely agree with 'lifer' :D

pleeeze people, stop the insanity

That's the idea with the thread! Just for fun...

Sometimes this board takes itself way too seriously!

Oh, not after tonight.

But let's say ol' Matty raises the goosepimples on Madden's arms by throwing for 250-400 yards, 2-4 touchdowns a game, goes undefeated and wins the super bowl.... and throw in a couple of end-of-game drives a la the Jets game, but they are Ws not Ls...

Nobody wants to say it, but with the "just for fun" stipulation in place...

Aren't we back to 2001 then, albeit with higher stakes?

The face of the franchise loses the job to injury...??? Can't happen!!!

You guys forget that nobody had brought the Pats to a serious SB run prior to Bledsoe. You can't count Eason. Hell, you can hardly remember Eason. Eason made you want to just go back to underperforming b/c that Bears SB was so embarassing, and it was so clear so soon that he was not a force to be reckoned with.

Bledsoe was the first Pats QB to really be reckoned with since the merger. And Brady? He was this kid that just managed the game while the maestro was down.

Nobody's had back-to-back 400 yard games since Billy Volek. Where is Billy Volek now? But Volek didn't end up with a SB ring. Volek didn't even take the starter's job for a full season.

So, let's say Cassel's 2008 ends like Brady's 2001... better, even.

There, I did it. The can of worms to trump all cans of worms. We ain't there yet -- stipulated. Also let me repeat, I am taking full advantage of the "just for fun" clause.

What if we get there? What if Cassel throws for 30TDs, zero additional interceptions, runs the table in the regular season, and takes the 2008 Pats to a SB victory?

Then who do you keep?

Wait let me do it to myself...

STFU PFnV!!!!

Even if the Patriots were willing to do this, there would be

salary cap problems with Brady's prorated bonuses.

Re: Overly Hypothetical SF Trade Offer!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wait a second...i read that as trading cassel away....not trading brady....

What gets me is that Cassel has played well with Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Brady won 3 SBs with WRs that have had no success anywhere else. What happens to a Cassel-led Pats if Moss or Welker go down?

I don't know why I thought about this trade offer but what if SF offered a first and Patrick Willis for Tom Brady? Would you take it? What about a first, a third, and Willis?

From SF's point of view, would they even consider this offer to be realistic?

...u're kidding right!?!? ... if you're not; what the fxxxxxx:violent: is wrong with you ... lay off those pills; they're bad for u

Like it or not, there is an official QB controvery. Not so much who is better, that is obvious, but for armchair GM's what can I get for...............
So, just for fun here goes. The Patriots could revamp their defense by adding three studs, a shutdown corner, an athletic LB, and lets throw in a hard hitting safety to go along with Merriweather who is starting to look really good. The Pats swap #1's with..........Detroit, then trade that pick for multiple picks and a player that is either traded to a third team or kept. Imagine if the Patriots had hands down the best defense in the NFL with their current offense (I'm just saying).

So you want to trade Brady to Detriot? What did he ever do to you? Brady would retire before going to Detriot. Detriot s the worst team in the NFL.

At least here in NE official position controversies don't emanate from armchairs, thankfully... The same people who would trade Brady wanted Cassel banished to WalMart 3 months ago, which is why the crap they spew from the comfort of those armchairs is by and large hysterical drivel.

The only scenario I see would be Tampa Bay.

TB would make them a truly legit SB threat. I wonder if TB would get along with Gruden.

SF is so bad, I don't see him taking the hometown route.

I might add we do have 5 picks in the first three rounds. Anyone know that status of defensive talent for the 2009 draft?

F*ck the 49'ers point of view, we're talking about shipping out Tom Brady here.

Madness, utter madness. People are sitting in straight jackets and padded cells right now for thinking about lesser things.

It's a legitimate post. This is not BB is only as good as Brady, it is not Seymour should be cut, not any of the numerous dribble that show up on this site.
We have a QB who may end up at season's end as a great player who many teams would covet. Did you notice more touch by Cassell on some of the throws yesterday, better decisions on throwing out of bounds and running. The guy is getting better each game. What if he absolutely burns Pittsburgh next week? Then we'll have twice as many of these threads next week with plenty of fans backtracking. All I'm saying, is what could you get for each qb and what the end result be. Yea, that's worth quiting this forum for.

I have to agree here. We all love Brady equally, but it's not blasphemy to wonder what it would take to pry him from this team.

For me, I wouldn't do it for any amount of draft picks, it'd have to be proven players that can help this team immediately and where we need it. Any team out there with a strong combination of LB/DB's that can make this a championship defense once again would tempt me. Not saying I would do it, but I'm sure Id be tempted.

This should be moved into the video game forum

So, its not logical to discuss the trade value of any player currently on the Patriots roster?
Blasphemy pure and simple.
