I will admit brady is my favorite player. I want the Pats to win although it has been hard for me to embrass Cassell. I want him to do good enough for the Pars to win and that is it. I keep hearing the media and some players saying it will be the same without Tom. If that is the case why wasnt Cassell starting? Trade Brady and use his cap for more free agents. Why keep a high priced qb if a guy who hasnt started a game since high school can replace him no problem.
Do not get mad. I am asking because I do not understand this logic.

I did not say I would trade Brady. I said people were making it out like the Pats would not miss him. I say that is bull****. If that was the case just trade him.

Look, I'm as big a Brady fan as you'll find- just look at my username. Watching the Pats without Brady just isn't going to feel like watching the Pats, and this is the first time that I've felt that way. But the Pats are still our team and Matt Cassel is now our QB. Acknowledging that, moving on, and pulling for him for the rest of the year doesn't mean that you're turning your back on Brady- in fact, I'm pretty sure that that's what he's doing himself and what he would want you to be doing anyways. Hope for the best for the guys who are there.

Absolutely nobody is saying that the Pats won't miss Brady in a huge way. They will, both because he's their emotional and tactical leader and because they're simply not nearly as talented an offense without him as they are with him. Anyone who says we'll be "fine" basically means that the Pats with Brady were so good (this team did go 16-0 last year) that even without Brady they should still be good enough for 10-12 wins and a playoff berth, and from there... well, weirder things have happened than the Pats getting hot at the right time. Just look at last year's SB- once you're in the playoffs you don't have to be the best team to win it all, and you don't have to have the best QB.

Nobody's saying that Brady isn't worth his salary, or isn't the best QB in the NFL. Without him, the team has gone from overwhelming favorite to maybe a contender. We're just saying that the rest of the team is good enough that, even if the Pats aren't nearly as good without Brady as they are with him, they still have an outside shot at surprising a lot of people and making a run.

When they say "it will be the same without Tom", much of that refers to the rest of the team. Every other player's role stays the same; they still have to block, tackle, run a pass route, etc. In addition Casell is familiar with the system so they don't have to limit the play book to a much smaller number of play's for Sunday's game plan - which is something they would need to do if they brought in a new QB.

More than any other sport, winning NFL football depends on the entire team. It's not like the NBA where one great player, who represents 20% of his team on the floor, can take over the game. Great QB's like Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl, while the list of SB-winning QB's that will never be considered for the Hall of Fame is very long.

Matt Cassell is not nearly as good as Tom Brady, but he is in a position to win thanks to being surrounded by excellent players and being led by possibly the best head coach in the history of the NFL. For those reasons everything 'will be the same' for the rest of the team.

We need to root like hell for Cassell to look as good as possible. Imagine if he has a 30TD season (which is possible if the rest of our offense stays healthy) and takes us to playoffs -then we trade him for a number one or two next year (ala Matt Shaub - Falcons flipped flopped firsts and received two seconds from Texans). Beautiful.......I just hope Tom is ready by the openah...

Cassel will be a UFA after this season, I'm pretty sure, so trading him isn't going to happen. It will give him about the greatest incentive possible to play lights out this year, though. It could be the difference between being out of the league and getting a huge contract from a dumb team in the offseason (I can see someone like the Vikings or the Jets giving him Brady-esque money if he throws 30 TDs)

"IF" Cassell takes the Patriots to the Superbowl with just two losses and then directs the team to a come from behind win in the waning seconds, then, we can start having a discussion of his true worth as compared to the two-time Superbowl MVP and league MVP.
