Zappe waived (Edit: so was Malik!)

Regarding Purdy - he's looked pretty good this preseason, but he's got a noodle arm. I say this because it's a hot topic for Jones as many of us are obsessed with his arm strength. Go back in time on YouTube and you'll be surprised how many QB's had noodle arms and were successful.

The difference is that Purdy is very decisive and it doesn't hurt when you have arguably the best pass catchers in the league and one of the best offensive minds in football.

I have confidence Mac can be successful if he can get some help.

either

A. patriots arent afraid of any team actually claiming zappe

or

B. they are okay with losing zappe as he isnt what this board thought he was.

either way its not good.

But...But...I thought Mac Jones and BB have irreconcilable differences....I thought Zappe was going beat out Mac in camp....
A solid month or more of sports media content just got flushed down the toilet.

The important thing is that Felger and Curran's kids got the braces they need.

I can at least explain my perspective.

Mac comes across as a Bledsoe-type without the cannon for the arm. Someone who can get flustered even when they perceive the protection to be breaking down.

Now Zappe didn't have a cannon arm either, but he showed flashes of being 'comfortable' even when plays were breaking down. He seemed to have some PURDY qualities. Now I think the reality is that was more of a flash than reality, but at least what 'the buzz' was about.
So after two games you thought Zappe could lead this team when Jones a year prior went 10-7 with them and was fairly close to winning rookie of the year had he not collapsed in the 4th quarter of the season?

My statement was for the people that were calling for Zappe even prior to him getting on the field after Mac got injured. It was clear they had an agenda against Mac and Bill.

Zappe never played for Josh. He is going after players that were there at the same time as he was
I'm aware. We'll have to give it some time, but I still think that won't stop them from signing guys who he hasn't worked with yet, but were with the Pats in 2022 or 2023. The opportunities for that have been limited since he's only been gone for a season, but assuming he stays with the Raiders for a couple more years, I think we'll see it.

so if zappe doesnt clear waivers, was this a HUGE miss by bill?

could've gotten mac some help with a 4th round pick. instead gets a backup QB (even after mac had a good first season) then dumps him the next year.

To say I am shocked would be an understatement...

Never thought they would cut zappe this year... slight possibility next year... but not this year...

I'd rather not ... but that's just me

Nothing should really be shocking anymore .. after last season.. anything is possible with this team. I still think he clears waivers and will end up back.. the cut was more about the making the 53 more then anything else.. BB is the master manipulator with the roster transactions

Not surprised he was let go. People can make all of the excuses they want but he clearly regressed. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got back to PS but what I’m really surprised by is that no one wanted him as a low draft pick or player for player trade? With all of the OL movement, the movement with QB’s…we might be in for a long season. Billy B & O are clearly not happy with the offense. Hopefully it gets ironed out by the end of September.
Gonna be a long season... Extremely tough schedule and the line is not solid. Mac is going to get hammered. Eagles front week one?

it is what it is... the 53 is set for now, will wait and see how much manipulation can be done... you can tell that changes will be made over the next week given the size of some of the position groups

Hopefully the Pats sign a QB better than Alabama because they are going to need him.
Not much out there that are free agents. A bunch of old guys and then camp fodder QBs under 30. It's too bad that Carson Wentz is a cancer on any team. He's the most talented one with lots of tread on the tires.

Well, the Patriots will have to make a couple of decisions about the OL in the coming week, freeing up space for two-three more veterans as the dust settles.

Looking at the 53, though, I like what I see at every level of the defense, at RB, at TE and WR. If the Patriots can add a solid QB and get some stability on the OL, they'll be a handful for the AFC East.

I like what they did on the OL this week, getting younger. The front office wasted opportunities signing so many journeymen over the summer. Adrian Klemm has a busy 10 days ahead of him. If Sidy Sow is up to the task, the starting could be fine.

Shula had more seasons under 10 wins than he did over 10 wins with Marino
I am not talking about Don Shula, I am talking about Jeff Fisherchick.

Just hearing about this. Not really surprised. Zappe was horrible throughout camp. Doubt if anyone else picks him up.
Question is will Bill even want him back?
He's not good enough to be your #2.
The Zappeites remind me of the Garappolites. Lost souls

What happens if Zappe gets claimed and Mac gets hurt behind this OL? That would be pretty bad.

I think he gets to the PS but it’s a risky thing to do so close to the start of the season.

If Zappe gets claimed they’ll have to settle for an upgrade by signing anybody off the street. Or maybe Bill will finally get Johnny Foxboro onto the roster. In any case we’ll be better off.

Maybe I'm wrong but just feels like it might be a rough season...

People on the board attacked the media for staying Bill neglected the offense. And here we are a week before the season with a poor OL, one QB and only 2 running backs.

And couldn't tell if the offense was any better in the preseason because the OL was a sieve.

Sure to change. But not exactly forebodes well.
