Pure speculation but with Sam Bradford and Jay Cutler both possibly out for the rest of the season, Mallett and Christian Ponder have both possibly seen their trade stock go up a touch overnight.

I could see Mallett being a nice fit in Chicago with Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey both being tall enough to benefit from Ryan's big arm.

So if the Bears offered a 3rd rounder, do we take it?

Note: Bears are in a virtual 3 way tie for first place in their division.

Edit: Deleted a Tebow reference to keep the OP about Mallett only.

Thompkins and Dobson could also benefit from Ryan's big arm. And relying on Tebow as the sole backup is asking for trouble. No way would I make such a trade.

Not sure why the Bears would think Mallet is better than their own backup.

As for who we can bring in to replace Mallett should he be traded, just bring in Tebow for the rest of the year (and keep fingers crossed for nine games).

Save yourself some humiliation and delete this thread.

no way he's being traded (he says just before Mallett is traded)

I have no problem with trading mallett but bringing in a guy who simply cannot play in the NFL as the back-up is a horrible idea. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want a player that no team in football considers good enough for a 3rd string position. I would rather see them bring Rohan Davey back.

I really don't care who they'd bring in; that wasn't the point of the post and was merely added to prevent the (who backs up Brady question).

At this point I think I would keep Mallett through next year and see how Brady is playing after 2014 before dumping Mallett.

To play along, though, Mallett to Cleveland for Alex Mack works for me. Mack is a FA after this year and appears on his way out. He'd be an upgrade for us now and we would hopefully re-sign him. Weeden . . . sucks. This isn't going to happen but it could make sense for both teams.

Yep, the Tebow fans just never give up. The Jacksonville Jaguars don't even want him.

I have to question your intelligence sometimes. The thread wasn't about Tebow. You are so boringly fixated on him.

I read here last spring that some teams would be willing to give up 2 first rounders for Mallette. Now that the QB's are getting hurt and Ryan is 100%, we should probably get 3 1st round picks.

Alex Mack is a FA?!

Yeah, after Talib he would be my #1 target.

I could see Mallett relieving Brady on the +10 yard throws. He stays.

Trading Mallett is a bad idea, especially with way Brady has been playing.

And who are you replacing Mallett with exactly?

- Tebow?

Whomever BB thinks is best. I'm not getting involved in a Tebow debate in a Mallett thread. It brings the children out.

Right, Belichick is going to trade away a guy he has groomed for a year, with experience in the system and some experience with the actual players....and bring in who to back up Brady?

The idea is completely asinine, did you get it from playing Madden?

I highly doubt he's traded but I'd much rather have a DT than a draft pick. The Bears don't really have one to spare and the Rams either have ones that they aren't going to give up for a short term solution or ones we don't want. Can always dream of stealing Brockers from them.......in the same pipe dream vain as getting the 6th overall pick from the Browns in the last draft.

Wait, let me get this straight. You want to trade a 3rd round draft pick that has been in our system for 4 years for a 3rd round draft pick?

Checkout the difference between "Could" and "Should".

At no point did I say it was desirable to do so.
