Albert Breer wrote a column questioning how last season's injury to Philip Rivers may affect his play, and the Charger's chances this season. He points out that though knee injuries affect the play of a RB or DB more than that of a QB, they still take more than a year to fully recover. On top of that, don't forget that Rivers' injury came at the end, not the beginning of last season.

There's no doubt that Rivers is tough and will play, but Breer does bring up a valid point as to whether or not Rivers will be 100%.

While I despise the Chargers and most of their fans, Rivers showed me a lot in the Chargers last playoff loss.

The way he played hurt was impressive, and more or less canceled out the whiny cry-baby, "You're the worst corner in the league, boo-hoo" crap.

He's still not up there in my book, but he's certainly no Ryan Leaf as I often called him.

bottom line: I'd take a tough-guy-I-can-do-it-coach-just-put-me-in player at less than 100% than a ***** like LdT.

I doubt that Rivers will be the Chargers problem this year.

I think guys are fooling themselves if they dont think it will. He's SIX months removed from ACL surgery. I think he's come back too early myself, and it may eventually come back to haunt him. Guys are in such a hurry to get back these days, I think they rush the process. But how about Gates TOE? Between Rivers knee, Gates toe, and Tomlinson's head, I think theyre stumbling a little this year.

THAT he played was impressive. The way he played certainly was not.

I don't care how tough he is, it also comes down to what his body is able to do and I expect his play to be somewhat less than it would have been this year without the torn ACL. It's just the way the body works.

It'll probably give him problems in the beginning of the year if anything. I believe the tear was on his planting knee as well so how well it recovers as the season progresses will probably depend on how much Rivers drops back. Believe it or not, something about me actually likes the guy even though he's a crybaby. Maybe it was him shouting at hick Colts fans after the divisional playoff game. I don't know. But the guy is tough. He may have a little bit of an off year, ala Carson Palmer, but he'll start every game.

Same here - that was big. I still don't respect the Chargers but Rivers is a gamer.

Keep in mind a few things - this is not you or I that we're talking about.

I had ACL surgery - lived with a torn ACL for 10 plus years in fact.

Forward and back motion is fine - limited side to side mobility with the support of a good brace is also very possible. While the tendon is a big help, strong muscles around the knee can compensate to a degree.

And as Rivers himself showed, even with a completely torn ACL he was able to dropback and throw from in the pocket.

The surgery is arthroscopic and while there's still signfiicant trauma and recovery needed, its not like you or I rehabbing for a limited time a day while we try to hold down jobs as well. Rehab, PT and recovery IS his full time job - and he's starting off with the health of a professional athlete too.

So whatever the typical recovery from ACL is, speed that up for a professional athlete.

Will he be 100% - probably not; Psychologically its difficult not to think about it for a time as well. But he could well be more than good enough to be very effective, though not quite as mobile side to side - and that could be more than good enough for the Chargers.

Answer: No. Team is too multifaceted for that to bring down the season. He has made great offseason progress, and according to camp reviews on various sports sites, he has added muscle and weight, making his passes longer and more accurate during practices.

Crybaby? come on... but yeah I didn't like some of the antics, but those colts fans had it coming. I'm not usually supportive of cheering on an opposing player's injury, which is what they were doing. He rightly told them to not worry, that he would be back.

the bolts have a pretty easy schedule like us. The tough games are against us, indy, and pitts. They play the rest of our division as well as the nfc south. they'll definitely get through to the play offs without too much trouble. Just so long as his knee survives the season and heals as much as possible. their line's good, so protection shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I caution anyone reading about where he is in his recovery. Players and teams always say when talking about a guy coming back from an ACL that he is doing great, ahead of schedule, stronger than before, etc. and 99.99% of the time it is BS and it takes until the second season since the injury for the player to get back to what he was.

We'll see when he gets on the field with live action. I really doubt with the talent of their team and the ease of their schedule it will derail their season. The question is where he will be physically and mentally come playoff time because they are not winning a title without better play from Rivers than he has displayed against NE the past 2 years.

I should have said most Charger fans who post here. It only includes you if you feel the need to correct our thinking and post obnoxious crap for the purpose of preventing us from discussing our team, and your team from our viewpoint. (There is a forum here for smack talk, but most trolls don't use it and moderators encourage them to post in the Pats Fans forums for some reason unknown to me.)

Most fans of opposing teams are knowledgeable and fun to talk to. In person. I had a nice conversation with Charger fans at Gillette a few years ago.

The problem is that most who come here to post are flaming A-holes. (The same is true of Patsfans who go to other teams sights with the intention of annoying people and preventing them from discussing their team in peace.

I always like to discuss football, but I've become very disillusioned by the behavior of the jerks who come here with the intent of ... well, being jerks.

So that is why I said most instead of all.

If I were a Charger fan, I would wear his jersey not LdT's. LdT is like Tyrone Poole, except LdT has a lot more talent and even less heart.
