Will Kevin Faulk's replacement wait until 2009?

I thought we might grab a late unfamiliar no-name HB or FB or even RB as a 3rd down guy to eventually replace Faulk which I think he is coming close to retirement most likely in 2009 which would be his 10th year but I guess there were not any worthy guys in round 5 or 6.

Is there a decent UDFA or some veteran still available we should consider or just wait until next year and go with what we have in 2009 Maroney,Morris,Faulk and Evans.

Personally I would like to add a guy to the practice squad this year to be ready to jump in to the active roster next year as for some gut reason,I don't think Faulk is going to be around.

If Morris can step up to be a 1a type to compliment Maroney on 1st or 2nd down, I'd like to see Maroney play 3rd downs more often. Don't you think he'd be filthy on screens. I guess the blocking aspect of being a 3rd down back is a consideration.

I absolutely LOVE Kevin Faulk and he is one of my very favorite players

He plays 100% with desire, strength and hard determination and gives it all on every play despite not being the biggest athlete on the field.

There is no way he will be easy to replace at least in terms of character and team guy,Guys like that come around about as often as a Tom Brady

I think that extra second rounder next year or in mid rounds might be a nice place to grab a big fast bruiser for 3rd downs behind LoMo and Morris - Its not going to be too long before #33 is no more

why not an Undrafted rookie? wasnt faulk an Undrafted rookie?

UNDRAFTED? Hell no

Pick #46 in the second round of the 1999 draft - He could have gone late 1st

ohh, nvm then...shoot....we need someone HIGH to replace faulk then....obviously

The last time I looked, Kevin Faulk was still getting BETTER as a player. Better ball security, better ability to absorb the first hit

I don't think he's as close to the end of his career as some assume.

The main thing that worries me is that, like Troy, he finally seems to drop the occasional ball.

I completely agree...well...with the first part at least. I don't think Faulk is close to being done either. Yes he's getting up there in age for a RB position, but you have to take into account that he isn't an every down back and doesn't take as many hits as other RBs do. Less hits translates to longer career for RBs usually. As for dropping the occasional ball, name an NFL player who doesn't. Even Randy Moss drops one once in a while. Wes Welker dropped quite a few this year and some in big games. Kevin Faulk excels at what he does and is a great locker room guy, leader, and person. Sure glad he's a Pat and hope he remains a Pat for at least a few more years, until he decides he's ready to hang 'em up and maybe get a coaching job with the Pats.

I think smaller ST/RB guys can become available because they don't work as every down backs and we will pick one up from the league.

He is playing better than ever and he doesn't take a beating the way he is used.

I'm sure they have their eye out for guys.

Unlike WR or linebackers, RB/FB are players that are easy to plug and play. By that I mean you can draft a RB/FB in the first round or early second and have him start that year and have an impact, it doesn't take a year or two to develop them and teach them the system. We need LB and CB in the pipeline, we can wait for FB/RB until the actual need arises.

We carry 3 RB and 1 FB in the rooster. so its very unlikely we draft a RB when we have maroney, morris ,faulk on the rooster as at the end of training camp you have to cut him to move to the pratice squad.

I would wait till faulk is done by that time we can put some more 3rd down role on maroney /morris and draft a guy who can play and bring him in slowly in over a season.
