Wild Card round: Coaching

I'd like to share some thoughts and listen some as I felt the coaching level was subpar for a playoff round.

Andy Reid: OK

Bill O'Brien: Failed to take Hoyer out of the game because he was afraid of repeating the mistake he made in week 1. Was he coaching to win the game or to not repeat a mistake and look bad? Hoyer suffered many concussions (I think 2 in the Pats game), was not looking good from the first pass attempt. Weeden is not a good QB but he does have an arm and is a big guy at least. Also the Dallas gig made him look worse than he really is. That tricky play in the end of the first half that could put the game 13 x 7 was awful, the next play Hoyer threw a pick, many will put this on the QB what I agree but I cannot give a pass to BoB on this one. Your offense is awful and you try something funny instead of doing the basic in the 2 yard line and trying to get a score?

Mike Tomlin: Undisciplined team, bad decisions in the game like the 2pt attempt with the game still open, his team was choking a 15 point lead in the 4th quarter and didn't won the game, the Bengals lost.

Marvin Lewis: Do I need to say something?

Carrol: OK

Zimmer: Extreme conservative game plan, offense totally predictable, settle for field goals against a team that makes comebacks and does funny stuff. There is an old saying here in my country for situations like this, "the ball punishes", that's what happened. I get that the weather didn't allow a good game and teams to use some creativity but Seattle was struggling more to adapt, the Vikings already had some games like this in the past few weeks.

McCarthy: Good

Gruden: OK. The Redskins struggled to make in game adjustments in their defense but I'm not sure there was a lot they could do, also Rodgers had a great game, when a top QB has a great game there's only one possible outcome.

Carrol - Seattle is complaining of headset problems. The NFL is a billion dollar business using Radio Shack walkie talkies.

Reid - Only gets a pass because the Texans were a train wreck. Hoyer fumbled and threw 2 INTS in the first half and KC only managed to kick 2 FGs on offense.

BOB's problem was he called plays that relied on Hoyer to make a lot of good decisions. That interception in the red zone was a good example. BOB should know what he has in Hoyer and he thinks he has Brady out there.

Yes I mentioned in the game thread some Vikings players were to soft on that play but anyway these things happen against Seattle and Wilson creates some plays out of his ass. Wanna play conservative against Seattle at least open 17-0 before. 9-0 is not a safe place to sit and run the clock.

BoB was handcuffed. While Weeden has the potential to be better than Hoyer, he simply hasn't been in HOU lomg enough to be more than a "break glass in case of emergency" replacement for when succumbs to another concussion. He simply doesn't know the playbook. Plus, Hoyer is a bit of a tease. He's smart, knows the playbook, executes the short game well when he's not under pressure so he seems a better choice than Weeden. But he gets way rattled when the heat comes, I think as an outgrowth of the awful beating he's taken since leaving NE. He often overreaches his talent trying to make plays beyond his capabilities. Ironically, because he doesn't want to be the guy who didn't get it done, he becomes the guy who blew up everything. He was Ensign Ralston from The Bedford Incident.

Blessing in disguise for Houston. No reason they go into the off-season thinking Hoyer is your starter. Had he won a playoff they might convince themselves he is. QB should be priority number 1 for them. I would think real hard about RGIII or Kapernick or hope someone falls to the 20s in the draft.

Zimmer impressed me on the Vikings last two possessions. Ballsy decision to punt away on 4th down with under 3 minutes left. If his defense didn't hold, the 2nd guessing would have been fast and furious. He made all the right calls and won the game...or should have.
PS.....does Bridgewater think his passes can penetrate and exit through D linemen? The guy doesn't play 6'3"

I heard the holder was having a hard time because of the gloves he needed to wear but wasn't used to. Anyway in that kick the laces were right there in front of the kicker, can't never underestimate Murphy's law. Good thing BB will certainly give extra attention to that this week.

Bridgewater mechanics are awful, his passes are to low and a lot of them are blocked. Guy is weak, small framed, slow, he can be serviceable for the Vikings while in a rookie contract but I don't think he's a franchise QB you would want to build around.
