Why No Billy Winn?

I've said in the main forum I predict Dowling and Dennard will be the starting corners in October. I really really hope Dowling can make it through a full season, health-wise. It's been a couple of years now between Virginia and NE.

Dennard is a shut down corner. Period. Love the guy. He might not have the speed or size to be a first round pick, and his decision making around cops is unimpressive, but I love the attitude. He's the opposite of effete Darius Butler, who did have the speed. But played like a kittycat.

I expect to see more of him than the Wilson guy.

Dennard will climb the depth chart faster than king kong a tall building. And we'll have the Duct Tape Boys--guys who will stick to receivers like glue. Arrington can be the slot guy.

I don't think you'll see Tavon Wilson anywhere near a starting safety--unless the choice is between Sergio Brown and him.

not that big on billy winn, but kheeston randall or markus kuhn would have been worth it over either ebner or ebert.....unless this was a name thing to keep edelman company while diddling girls on the dance floor. In that case, they should have drafted egnew, also

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Billy Billy Billy Billy Billy Billy BILLY!!

One note for OTG: the 40 doesn't matter too much, but the first 10 says something.

Couldn't agree more.

Those are two different animals entirely.

1 ~ Long Speed.

2 ~ Short Speed.

I've always been an huge advocate of the 10 Yard Split.

It's all about Burst, baby.

We picked the rugby player, Nate Ebner, at #197, who looks to become a fan favorite playing ST, though he had free agent written all over him.

But going over the sixth round, I see Billy Winn, DE, Boise, was drafted at#205. He would have been super value for us at #197. Prisco gives our pick a C and the Browns pick of Winn an A. I agree.

Why not go after him?

Billy Winn, Boise State, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com Projected 2nd or 3rd round.

Seems strange.

I think BB is changing his philosophy entirely on the 3-4 DE unless they can kick inside as 4-3 DT's and he already has a stable of those in Wilfork, Love, Deaderick, Warren and Pryor.

Can you cite any posts you made pre-draft that expresses your feeling regarding Barwin?

Better yet, since you are very good at this, can you list one player available in the upcoming draft who you will call your "binky" this year. Please do this before the draft guides come out and McShay/Kiper etc tell you who to like. Please try to be reasonable(i.e. don't say you will take Andrew Luck if he is there in the 3rd). Try something like "I think D'ontari Poe looks good if he is there late in the 2nd" Let's see how you do.

LOL.......given I have only been here since 2010, that's not possible......

Barwin was the most popular pre draft choice for the pats for most people. even many of the website mocks had barwin going to the pats....it made a ton of sense at the time and did not require any imagination.

this year? I like Jake Bequette, Marvin McNutt, Billy Winn......but its early, and I haven't really started to look.

Can't argue with that. How about last year. Any "binky you want to share with us? Where you can show your pre draft acumen?

Barwin was the most popular pre draft choice for the pats for most people. even many of the website mocks had Barwin going to the pats....it made a ton of sense at the time and did not require any imagination.

Sergio Kindle and Jerry Hughes were very popular pre draft choices for the pats for most people. even many of the website mocks had Kindle/Hughes going to the pats....it made a ton of sense at the time and did not require any imagination. How did they work out?

this year? I like Jake Bequette, Marvin McNutt, Billy Winn......but its early, and I haven't really started to look
You like Bequette in what round? Obviously you saw him against SC. Any concern about his injuries? You are not really looking at him early are you? Maybe 3rd? Where do you see McNutt going? 2nd? Has size, does he have the speed? Winn? Again what round? I assume you expect a return to the 3-4 since that is where he projects. Do you think the Pats use an early pick on a 3-4 run stopping DE?

I realize it's early and you haven't started to look. Kiper's guide isn't out yet. That's the difference between guys like you and real scouts/Personnel men. You sit back and critique them and say "I would have taken Connor Barwin, everyone knew he was great". When all you can really do is regurgitate something you read in a draft guide. The guys you are bashing could give you reams of info today on your "binkies". And they still only get 1/2 right (when they are lucky) You regurgitate someone else work and the person you get your info from isn't good enough to work an NFL team. If they were good at evaluating players, they would be doing that for pay. Not selling draft guides to boobs like you. So you can act like you know something about NFL football talent evaluation.

Let's write you down for Winn in the 1st. McNutt in the 2nd and Bequette in the 3rd and see how you do.

I liked brooks reed enough to take him at 28 or 33.....I liked Jj watt, but understnand given where he was draft. I agreed with the needntomtake an OL, and I liked solder for the pats more than carimi or castonzo.

I understand the RB selections...OK with mallett, too.....neither kindle nor Hughes were as popular as barwin as he reminded so many of vrable

I'm not even complaining about the drafting of Cunningham.....I could see it.

Its the endless revolving door in the secondary and the fact that some of those wasted picks could have been used for good value on obvious needs. Like I said, I have not taken random people and thrown them out there for argument sake.

Bequette would be a later pick. none of these guys would be in round 1, and like I said, it's early.

I am hoping for a return to the 3-4.....I fear that 2 of the early picks will again be used on secondary. The pats need to sign some vets back there instead as that is what has helped in the past.

Congrats on Bequette(I guess )
Not so much on Winn(6th) and McNutt(6th)
Now, you are "not that big on billy winn"
What happened? Kiper/McShay/latest draft guru tell you he isn't good?
Back in December before the draft guides came out, these were your 3 binkies.
I know, I know, it was early.
The only thing that changed was the draft guides came out and now you could parrot someone else's work. That and bash the professional evaluators.
Too bad a real scout isn't smart like you and instead of spending 100's of hours looking at tape, interviewing coaches, watrching games, etc., he could just do what you do and parrot someone else's work and try to sound like they know what they are doing. That would be alot easier but alas, they wouldn't last long in the profession. Their boss would realize this person is a fraud and they would be gone.

Hopefully Winn, McNutt and especially Bequette all become pro-bowlers so you can claim "I am so smart" on a fan board. Good luck with that.

does that sound like a ringing endorsement to you????? idiot

like anyone else, I reserve to change my mind.......I liked him earlier as he is pretty active, but I also learned he's really only a 1 gap guy.

I liked Kendall Reyes.....but he has the same baggage.

but thanks for stalking me

I agree. He's changing philosophies, which is why he reached for Tavon "3 INT in 3 years" Wilson since he's versatile, durable, fast, with good leadership, and he can be plugged almost anywhere behind Vince.

But I had this dream last night that we were hosting Pittsburgh, and a healthy Roethsberger, in the AFC Championship Game in Foxboro this year, and Dave DeCastro did things against Kyle Love and Deaderick on the left side like I haven't seen since Deliverance.

I really wished we had gone DT at 48. There was a feeding frenzy over offensive linemen in the second, dropping Reyes, Worthy, and Still. What an embarrassment of riches that we passed on!
