Why has Bill the GM been so poor the past decade?

Exactly! Basically every one on here posting has mentioned this. It's like they purposely set the offense up like this. Mac had James white for the first 4 games of his rookie season and he helped Mac and the offense immensely. Douglas is the only player resembling a slot WR presence.
Not to mention that Brandon Bolden did a pretty good job of filling that role in 2021 after White got hurt. Bolden followed McDaniels to Vegas. I’ve seen no reporting on whether the Pats tried to resign him in 2022. You would have thought they would have considering he was also a reliable ST contributor.

Jakobi Meyers was a bigger, less elusive after the catch slot receiver, but he was a very reliable 3rd down receiver. I understand what they were going for bringing in Smith-Schuster rather than bringing back Meyers, but it certainly didn’t work.

Not signing Meyers was a cataclysmic failure.

I freely admit I bought into the JuJu is more talented higher upside narrative and how wrong that was....F__k

Greg Bedard had an interesting take this afternoon. He said if the Patriots had kept Meyers, signed Hopkins and drafted an OT in the first round, this season could've been completely different.

I think Belichick cannot move beyond raw talent ... he has a problem valuing functional talent.

Not accurate. Scoring has gone down 2 straight years and is down to pre 2010 days

Combination of lousy execution, crappy QBs and defenses adjusting.
Yup 45yo Brady was outplaying or at least hanging with the current crop of "elite" guys. Which is equal parts hilarious and ridiculous.

Yup, players come or stay for multiple reasons: money, family, situation, chance to win

I’m saying that we can cross out the “chance to win” box now. Harrison and Moss came here for less money for a chance to win. Brady, Bruschi, Edelman, and others stayed for less money then they could get elsewhere. Winning was a big component for the Pats attracting players and also keeping players.
Moss got traded for, he didn’t choose to come here, even if he was glad he did.

Harrison was considered old, washed up and damaged goods at the time. Nobody was knocking down his door.

Bruschi negotiated his own contract, his family was here, his kids were entrenched in schools here. If he was out for top dollar, he would have hired an agent.

Edelman was a slot receiver, a great one, but he knew what side of his bread the butter was on. Brady was his boy and would feed him more quality targets than he could handle. Nobody was breaking the bank for him, or they would have.

Brady willingly gave up money to win, he didn’t do it for any other reason, but that and for ten years he was one of the highest paid players in the league and they came close but no cigar. Somebody obviously told him if he sacrificed the savings would go towards going all in to win… they played in four Super Bowls and won three… so they weren’t lying.

This has nothing to do with now, we were told nobody would come here once Tom was gone. Then in 2021 the Patriots had the biggest free agent offseason of any NFL team.

Money talks, BS walks.

It’s possible but it also assumes Mac isn’t fundamentally broken. His inability to read a defense and find the open guy makes me believe it wouldn’t make any difference

Agreed. Yes Bolden was good as well, and he's been a ST standout his entire career as well. Myers was a guy that should have been a patriot. He resembles everything that the old patriots wat stood for. I've made mention that Parker and juju won't be here next season. One is outright realeased and the other maybe traded for a 7th.. just my opinion.

In the Brady years it seemed as though BB could draft a less than stellar player and "coach them up", which for years seemed to have worked.. the days of Brady being able to make chicken salad our of chicken crap receivers worked well. Similarly on the defensive side, where he had players like "Two way Troy" or the Tiquan Underwoods of the world playing DB.. There were a few A++ players, but many C players who played above their expectations. Coaches like Dante made the O line more than adequate. There were times with the D was not all that good so he could trust #12 rather than punt on 4th down.
Fast forward to the past few years, things have changed, his ability to "coach some above average players up" has not worked at all. The players he chooses now are not much different than he did before, except they have not excelled on the field. Mac Jones is an excellent example, drafting him was a great thing until he displayed "deer in the headlights QB'ing".. but we are not alone consider Zach Wilson #2 in that draft class.
It is time for a new brain trust to coach and manage this team, someone who can use analytics better and someone who can reverse this downward trend. I never thought I would agree with moving on from BB, but it is time.

The offensive tackle, Broderick Jones, who they traded back and gave to Pittsburgh didn’t make his first start until midway through this season. How would he have helped when our line got healthy in week three?

Meyers has made the Raiders good… how? He’s the same player as Juju. Juju will prove that once he gets in a better situation like Jonnu and Agholor have. We were told here they were the problem also… they weren’t.

Hopkins is old and slowed down, he’s a glorified possession receiver now.

This take by Bedard is laughably bad. Mac stinks, he has regressed going back to the final quarter of his rookie season.

There’s nobody to blame, nobody ruined him, nothing was going to make him better… he’s just not good, like a million draft busts that came before him.

Mac might improve, he might “get it” one day… it could take years.

I’m entertained that he picked one player each from the 26th, 27th, and 28th scoring offenses. Those players aren’t exactly elevating their offenses right now.

(Assuming Broderick Jones since he was the first round OT available.)

I think J Meyers 591 and 6TD's probably win us Five games.

Sometimes you need a guy with a 50 cent head and a million dollar arm (or legs, or hands). It's nice when you can find guys with million dollar heads and arms but they're rare.
You just described Jeff George.

The majority of which came early in the season when JimmyG was healthy.

Devante Adams is arguably the best WR in the NFL. He hasn’t had a 100+ yard receiving game since Jimmy was healthy in week three.

Jimmy isn’t amazing, or some QB savior… he’s merely good. The Raiders have been in a free fall since he got hurt… including their weapons production.

Adams, Waller, Meyers, Renfrow, Jacobs… they have arguably the best weapons in the league. Why can’t they make the Raiders backup QB good like Mac apologists here have told us?

Because it’s not weapons, it’s not line play… Mac sucks. Weapons don’t make QB’s, they can only enhance what’s already there.

Same. Bought into the YAC narrative. Couldn't have been more wrong.
In Reids scheme sure
Queefs lead the league in YAC again

The BB way has run its course.

Looking forward to the new A.B. era in 2024

(A.B is not Antonio Brown it's "After Belichick")
Coach Brown
