Why does this offense struggle to convert first downs late in games while up only one possession?

is it the conservative play calling?

240 left, even after gronk went down...we get one first down and that pretty much ends it.

Very frustrating

Makeshift Offense and BS call by Refs Gronk had a First Down that was take away. I think Martin getting some in game work will help him in our games to come.

They've never been good at closing out games on offense, even back in the dynasty years. In this case, they were going against the best D in the NFL with depleted receivers and a struggling line. Not a recipe for success. I think Bill really thought he could lean on his D last night like he could a dozen years ago. Didn't work out.

Too many injuries on the offense and defense.

Although Martin is probably an upgrade to Dobson, White is no Vereen much less a replacement for Lewis.
The OLine is a mess with all the injuries.

The good news is we don't have to be undefeated anymore, and we can still get almost healthy by the playoffs! And of course we still have TB!

If that had been the case, they wouldn't have taken kill shots downfield.

Pats are defending champs and are 10-1. Saying "this offense struggles...." after a loss is obviously not taking into consideration the current injury ridden roster .

I was more thinking in general, with the 3rd and long runs and quick screens. They seemed comfortable waving the white flag on a lot of 3rd downs.

Tough when you're missing so many weapons. A screen or draw to Lewis would have been much less of a give-up than it is when White takes the handoff, remembers he went to Wisconsin, and falls on his face.
