I'm fairly sure the mods leave them open till the morning following the day of the practice the thread was written about. At that point they're moved to the Training Camp subforum and locked.
The next day, a new thread gets posted based on that day's observations; locking the prior thread preserve a chronological order within the TC subforum and keeps people from talking about today's practice on a three day old thread.

Maybe I wanted an answer and not to wait for a Mod. I got a response with a resonable answer to my question much faster than a PM would have gotten me.
