Speaking as someone who lives in Florida, is a science teacher, loves the Patriots, also follows the Gators, and who has followed Tebow since Nease High School,

I found it to be valid

As a single father from Florida who actually gives a rats ass about what my son learns in school, I take a little offense to it.

I won't try and say that there are not a bunch of creationists in the south, because I've run into a few, but such a blanket statement is unfair. Just because they are a loud minority doesn't mean everyone is that way.

This thread as been derailed enough though, so I'm done with that subject.

patriots - Maybe the Patriots and Tim Tebow could be a fit after all - WEEI | Mike Salk

interesting article with a small excerpt from it below.

"As I said, we know all the things Tebow can't do. But if you only focus on a player's weaknesses, you'll never find a way to utilize his positives. And Tebow has plenty of them. He is a ferocious runner, very difficult to bring down in the open field. He's got a knack for making big plays late in close games. And he finds himself in plenty of close contests because he can keep his team falling out of them early."

I have been waiting for someone in the media to say something stupid like this.

Demos has made claims that Tim Tebow is one of the leading reasons why the Broncos went 7-4 while he was the starting quarterback. Lets take a closer look at the Broncos 7 regular season wins in 2011 when Tebow was the starting quarterback:

Tim Tebow's Game 1: Broncos beat Miami 18-15 in overtime. Tebow goes 13-27, 161, 2 scores. The Broncos appeared beaten when they trailed 15-0 with 5:23 left and took over at their 20. At that point Tebow was 4 for 14 for 40 yards, and Denver was 0 for 10 on third-down conversions.

“It’s my fault that we were in that position in the first place,” Tebow said. “I just have to play better in the first three quarters so we don’t have to make that comeback.”

Miami was 0-5 entering this game.

Tebow Game #2: The next week, the Lions (10-6) blew out the Broncos at Denver 45-10 and improved to 5-2. The Broncos fell to 2-5.

“Just got to improve and get better and come out with a little bit more juice,” Tebow said.

Back to the drawing board for the 2-5 Broncos.

Tebow Game #3: Following the blowout loss to the Lions, the Broncos, on the heels of two Tim Tebow and two Willis McGahee touchdowns, blew out the Raiders (4-4) in Oakland 38-24. Tim Tebow was 10-21 for 124 passing yards and 121 rushing yards.

"I thought he improved throwing the ball,” Fox said. “I think he’s always run the ball pretty effectively. He’s very competitive by nature. You see evidence of that. Now it’s just learning how to be an NFL quarterback. In my opinion he’s gotten better each time out.”

The Raiders had the 4th worst team defense in 2011.

Tebow Game #4: Following what became the beginning of a modest 6-game winning streak, Tebow went 2-8 for 69 yards and 1 passing touchdown along with 43 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown en route to a 17-10 win against a Kansas City Chiefs (4-5) team that did not have Jamaal Charles.

“We had some good things going with the running game, and back and forth with different backs,” Tebow said. “I’m a football player first, before quarterback. Whatever we can to do win games.”

Tebow Game #5: On a short week, the Broncos ran their winning streak to three at home against the New York Jets after Tim Tebow scored on a 20-yard run after the Jets lost containment on a LOS running play en route to a 17-13 win.

Tebow was 9-20, 104 passing yards, and 68 rushing yards. “We played them well, through the whole game, until that last play,” Darrelle Revis(notes) said.

“That’s why I wanted to be a quarterback since I was 6 years old, watching guys like John Elway and Steve Young have game-winning drives,” Tebow said.John Elway traded Tebow in the off-season and drafted a rookie to back-up in-coming quarterback Peyton Manning.

Tebow Game #6: The Broncos went on the road and beat the Chargers (4-7) 16-13 on the heels of three Matt Prater field goals including his game winning field goal with 29 seconds left in overtime.

“This is a special team, a special team when you have a bunch of guys that when things aren’t going good we get closer instead of pulling apart,” said Tebow, who grates on some people because he’s openly religious. “The No. 1 reason we are like that is because we believe in each other, we believe in the coaching staff.”

Tebow was 9-18, 143 passing yards, 1 passing score and 67 rushing yards on 22 attempts.

Tebow Game #7: In Tebow's best game as a professional, the Broncos held off the 2-9 Minnesota Vikings 35-32 as he went 10-15 for 202 passing yards and two Demaryius Thomas touchdowns.

“I know I have been saying this for the past couple weeks but I’m so proud to have a team like this,” said Tebow, who posted a career-high passer rating of 149.3. “When adversity hits and you’re not doing good, most teams pull apart and they’re not on the same page anymore. But our team grows closer together.”

Tebow’s NFL career high is 308 yards passing, against Houston on Dec. 26, 2010.

Tebow Game #8: Tebow followed up last week's performance with another solid performance after the Broncos have won seven of its last eight, and six of those wins have involved second-half comebacks, five of them necessitating fourth-quarter rallies, three of which went to overtime.

“If you believe,” Tebow said, “then unbelievable things can sometimes be possible.”

Tebow went 21-40, 236 yards and a score.

Tebow Games 9, 10, and 11:

After the Broncos were blown out by the Patriots (41-23) and the Bills (40-14), the Broncos were facing a must-win in order to clinch the AFC West and lost to the Kansas City Chiefs at home 7-3. Tebow was 6-22 for 60 passing yards and no scores.

The Broncos won the AFC West after the Raiders failed to seal the deal when they lost to the Chargers 38-26.

''It's obviously a little bittersweet right now,'' Tebow said. ''We would have loved to have won that game to have a little momentum going into the playoffs. But I think it's still a special thing what we accomplished, to come back and win the AFC West is very special.''

The point I am making is that I can count three games on this 11-game run where Tim Tebow was not the leading reason why the Broncos ended winning the games that it won following its bye week.

So, when someone says "And he finds himself in plenty of close contests because he can keep his team falling out of them early" that is just a bald face non-truth.

I don't call people liars but certainly did not happen when this glorious 7-4 run happened so that the Broncos went 8-8, including after losing its last three.

Oh, what the heck, I'm game for the discussion. Denver's record was 7-4. You say that Tebow was not the "leading reason why the Broncos ended winning the games that it won following it's bye week". Which 3 of those games have you identified ?

I don't call people liars but certainly did not happen when this glorious 7-4 run happened so that the Broncos went 8-8, including after losing its last three.

Any of the games where the Broncos defense allowed the Broncos, led by Tebow and Matt Prater, to do what they did offensively in the 4th quarter and in overtime.

Those games certainly include the Miami game, the Kansas City game when Tebow went 2-8 but won, the Jets game, and the Chargers game when Prater kicked a field goal after 14 minutes of overtime play before the Broncos scored.

And not for nothing - but had the Broncos not kicked a field goal after more than 14 minutes through overtime, and had tied that game, the Broncos would have not made the playoffs and the Raiders would have.

I think that I have made my point. Don't worry - I know that you will argue all of my points that I have made. Maybe - we should just let others chime in.

I don't know. I think its pretty clear that since Tebow can start as QB and have his team win when he goes 2-42 throwing the ball with 57 yards of rushing, hes clearly a superior backup to ryan mallet.

But inferior to Mark Sanchez?

Not to diminish Tebow's college career but I was looking at his college numbers and his receiving corp as a college QB were better than a lot of the receiving corps Brady had over the years.

Harvin
Hernandez
Cooper
Caldwell
Murphy
Nelson
Demps

All 11 of them have spent time on an NFL roster.

So just to be sure, QB getting the ball on the 7 yard line with 5 or so minutes to play, driving the team all the way down and scoring the game winning TD isn't "winning the game" ?

Here's where the logic falls apart. The defense most definitely did their job. Hell, they went above and beyond. That said, if Tebow didn't drive down the field and score that TD, the Broncos would have lost.

That's kind of why they call that kind of thing a "game winning drive"

The point you are missing is that without the Broncos defense, the Broncos would have easily been 4-7.

Not missing that point at all. It's very possible that they might have been 4-7. It's also possible that they might have gotten into more of a shootout like they did with Minnesota or Oakland.

The defense definitely kept games close. The thing that some people don't get though is that a QB can suck for 3 quarters, and then turn around and be the one who "wins the game".

It's not the preferred way of going about things of course, but it happens.

Something else to note is that other QBs have sucky games, might even give them other team some points, but when it's close in the final minutes, they find ways to NOT win the game. Mark Sanchez is a great example.

You probably need to read again the statement you were replying to. Demosthenes said, "The defense most definitely did their job. Hell, they went above and beyond."

just curious if you weren't trying to diminish Tebow's college career. What were you trying to do by stating the above?

No - I don't need to read "again" the statement. The bottom line is that if the Broncos team defense faltered and/or had the quality of the opponent been "playoff caliber" then these so-called miracles that happened would have never happened.

Just curious - if you weren't trying to diminish the poster who observed who the U of F had for offensive weapons, then would you have said something?

Peyton Manning a Superbowl winning QB didn't bring the Broncos any further than Tebow did. Matter fact Tebow brought the Broncos further than Manning by winning 1 playoff game.

Re: Re: Why did this team sign Tebow?

just curious if you weren't trying to diminish Tebow's college career. What were you trying to do by stating the above?

I just never realized how much talent that team had offensively, I always thought of them as Tebow and then a ton of defensive talent.

I thought it was interesting and I had never realized it before I looked tonight so I figured I'd share it so if others who had not seen it before could know.

I use this site to educate myself on football and many others do the same so I like to repay or pay it forward by sharing information that could be educational to other members.

Just curious - if you weren't trying to diminish the poster who observed who the U of F had for offensive weapons, then would you have said something?

I wasn't trying to diminish anyone. I posted the article because I felt it was a fair and balanced article in regards to Tebow.

You're making imaginary arguments. Demosthenes agrees that the defense "stepped up" when they needed to. Keep pretending he said differently.

LOL - ok Christiancat. Why don't you call up John Elway and ask him why Manning is the Broncos quarterback and not Tebow? Thanks for playing.
