Why BB is running up the score

I do believe there is truth that Belichick is runing up the TD total of Brady.

I disagree. Brady seems to be out there less and less than ever. Belichick realizes that since we have no red zone defense, and Seymour and Harrison haven't been 100% yet, and our offense is unstoppable, that we should trust an extra TD or two to help us win, rather than having to rely on our goal-line stand.

Chance of Brady to score an extra touch down without throwing an INT or fumbling the ball? About 80% is my guess. Chance of forcing even an injured Miami offense into kicking a field goal in the red zone? Basically 0.

When we could stop the opponents in the red zone, we forced them to kick and could win by 3 or 10 points. Now, we have to assume the other team will score a touch down on every mid-field drive until we get Seymour and Harrison at 100%.

On top of that, I don't think it's just that the defense is worse. I really think Belichick has made a few strategical changes to the defensive goals for every game on account of our offense being so good. He likely doesn't care about the red zone defense as much as he used to. Nor is he going to pay tons of money to get players who are great goal line defenders. Instead, he's adjusting to the fact that the money will be spent on our offense next year, so let's play it that way this year.

Therefore, let's see what the team can do. Let's see if it's true that the Patriots can stay alive by staying ahead by a wide scoring margin. Belichick needs to see what the team can do. This offense IS our red zone defense for the next few years, and BB isn't going to fight it just to "make it look like the 2003 team."

I don't think he's running up the score. Rather, I think he is actually looking ahead to the Colts game(believe it or not). What was one of the key factors in last year's playoff game?-- 4th quarter endurance of the defense. So what is a better challenge to get ready for the Colts sauna dome than Miami heat? And how better do you get the defense prepared than to maximize their playing time. So many quick TDs gets the defense on the field a lot. No 6-8 minute time consuming scoring drives that lets the defense smoke and joke on the sideline, resting and with little endurance - just quick strike and get the offense off the field. 52 offensive plays per Reiss - not many compared to previous weeks. I think the whole effort was focused on building defense endurance for the 4th quarter in Indy's sauna dome.

Only a Belichick coached team could be accused of running up the score in a game in which a 42-7 halftime lead turned into a 49-28 final score.

It's unbelievable.

The media chooses who they want to portray as heroes or villains. Belichick has been selected to be a villain and these people will now bend and twist facts against him and do everything in their power to paint him as the largest villain they can. When its all said and done, opposing fans may even want to send him to the execution chamber (if they don't already).

Opposing fans and the media I can understand. But so many of our own fans have taken up the "running up the score" idea - speculating as to the cause of a phenomenon that quite simply does not exist. Just strange.

If you guys think this is running up the score, I hate to see what you call what we're going to do to the Jets.

this whole running up the score has taken its own life because of media's dislike for BB.
Isnt this a professional league ? Offense is supposed to score and defense is supposed to stop. this topic is just ridicolous

I agree. This isnt college football. There arent any AP polls, and there are no rankings to determine a national championship game. This is the NFL, where everyone is getting payed to play.

How many comeback games have there been in the history of this league? How many this past weekend? There is no such thing as running up the score in the NFL unless you are passing when a kneel down would win the game.

I don't see him as running up the score, I see him as winning games.. look at Houston- Tenn yesterday, you cannot take any chances in the NFL.. who woulda thunk that Rosenfields would throw 4 td passes in 1 quarter.. anything can happen and it is all about a win. Remember the discussion about ugly wins, and how close they were sometimes.. compare those discussions to these ones.

The point of the game is to SCORE MORE POINTS THAN THE OTHER TEAM.
We are just doing this better than anyone else this year!

Everyone hates USC in football because they had/have a good run. 10 years agao you never heard about them.
Everyone hates the top dog guys. Its human nature.

WE SCORED 7 POINTS IN THE SECOND HALF. How on EARTH anyone can be talking about "running up the score" when we hardly tried to score at ALL over the last 30 minutes is beyond me.

The Titans had a 32-7 lead yesterday after 3 Q's. They only won 38-36.
Had they gone no huddle and passed thier way downfield when ahead 32-7, would that have been running up the score?

BB may be running up the score as a way of mocking the members of the competition committee who foisted these absurd rule changes favoring offensive football on the League the last few years. He intends to score so many points, pass for so many TDs, until it becomes obvious that the passing rules need to be readjusted in order to stop the Pats, back to the kind of football BB actually favors: smashmouth defensive collision warfare, the way the game ought to be played.

Oh the way Glen Miller played....

songs that made the hit parade....

guys like us we had it made...

etc

We all know that the league has had a readjustment in favor of the new brand of football. It keeps the pink hats coming. Just toss the ball around until everyone is in awe. well, yeah, it seems obvious to me that after yrs of playing the old school football, BB is now taking the gloves off to accomodate what the NFL has been ramming down our throats. A score fest brand that gets ppls attention.

hey, if BB really is trying to show them up for their rule changes, then keep giving brady the ball...i trust him more with the football then any other guy out there...(in a sense)

wow...at what point did that occur to you?

This is ludicrous. There is no such thing as "running up the score" in professional sports. Do you hear MLB teams complaining when a team puts up 14 runs on them? Of course not. The point is to outscore your oppenent. These are grown men getting payed to win.

There is no reason to be "nice" and not "run up the score". You score when ever possible. If we have a giant lead, then we will probably rest Brady and other offensive starters and let our D take over. But this is to prevent injury and keep our players fresh. If the game gets any closer, what on earth do you think would be the smartest thing to do? SCORE again.

Pro sports isn't about being nice or any PC BS like that. It's about winning. Pure and simple. If you don't want your team being embaressed, be prepared, spend more money, or do a better job evaluating tallent.
