Who Not Named Barwin Will We Draft at 23?

Got it... thanks. Alcohol! I wonder if there was more that got hidden by Carroll and crew.

Petey hide his player's indiscretions? Perish the thought.

He's growing on me, but I think #23 is too high for him. I've got him as a mid-2nd round value. I'd like to see some film to see how he is defending the run before I'd consider him higher. From what I remember, he wasn't very good at it. But I also think it was a lack of desire, and not, like Maybin for example, a lack of ability.

Remember that BB came to the Giants, and had to motivate some linebackers every day on a team that was terrible at first. Lawrence Taylor was a lazy POS Monday through Saturday, Harry Carson had a bad attitude because nobody else took his job as serious as he did. Pepper Johnson needed to be told often to play the run first. (All anecdotes courtesy of The Education of a Coach) And Belichick didn't have 1/10th the credibility he has now...he was a first time co-ordinator with little on his resume.

If Belichick, Pees, Patricia, and Pepper can get through to this kid, he could be the steal of the draft.

Excellent post. I did read the book. If he is anywhere near a Taylor and can play with passion or even like when Kerse was on his game, he could be a value.
Thanks for the comments. Good info.

Found some stuff on him you might not have seen. Not bad in drop back!

Indeed. The Eric Wright saga still stands out in my mind, even amidst the vast moral wasteland that is big-time college sports programs.

Feed me on that one? Missed it.

Great work, thanks.

Unfortunately, I still don't think it translates well to what he's going to need to do as a 3-4 Mike. He's not going to get the protection he got from his O-line at Carroll U. Just like IMO Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher wouldn't be very good in the Pats defense, I don't think Rey will either.

I would have said the same thing for Seau however that ended up working out ok. Its very difficult position to project, who would have thought an undersized defensive end from Arizona would have worked out so well???

I'll mostly follow patchick and Dryheat here. I think that Beatty is choice A at 23, with a helping of Nicks or Heyward Bey if Beatty is gone. I think they'll look to address DE at pick 34, but if Jackson and Gilbert are gone, I believe they'll look to trade that pick into next year's first, so that they can make sure they'll have the ammo to get the DE needed if Sey runs for the money.

I think the Wright signing gives BB a bit of flexibility of not reaching on a DE at 23 this year. If you had to go into the 2010 draft with 2 #1 picks and Warren and Wright as your DEs, you'd be in pretty good shape and wouldn't have to overplay your hand to pick up the cream of the crop.

I'll also add I think that these are my choices whether Barwin is available or not. I believe we're just a SILB away from having our LB core set through the remainder of Adalius' contract. Someone with inside outside versatility would be an excellent pick in the second round.

IT should be interesting. I think Beatty is more of a 3rd round pick myself. I would go for Unger from Oregon. Wouldn't mind matthews from USC or Paul Kruger from Utah. But more and more I think we keep the three 2nd rounders.
