Although Flutie is a big fan favorite too, my pick is Drew Bledsoe that year. He was nothing less than classy when Belichick said he would stick with Brady as a starter even though Bledsoe was already healed. Drew still helped Tom out with advice and supported him the entire way through. Gotta respect him for that. He also came in and threw a TD pass against the Steelers when Brady went down to help us get to the SuperBowl. Huard was also a very good backup.

If you don't like Flutie, then you hate freedom:rocker:

I said Cassel. I like watching him play. I'm looking forward to getting to see him next preseason (hopefully that's all). IMO he could turn into a good starter in this league, but most likely with another team.

I remember watching Huard play for Miami in 1999 and thinking he was a gamer. Flutie was a scrapper too, but he was old. Huard was on the upswing.

Huard got a gameball for when we beat the Colts in the 2003 playoffs for how he helped the defense prepare in practice.

You're naive. He was mildly petulant in public once the decision was made to stick with Brady for the season. And uncomfortable at best to deal with in private for his coaches and teamates, including Brady.

Geesh...no love for Rohan.

Flutie and Vinny never backed Tom up, they backed Matt up. Huard only backed Tom up after Drew left, and then he left having thrown 1 incomplete pass in three seasons.

I feel pretty comfortable with Cassel entering his third season in the system. Particularly given the confidence BB has shown in him in not even bringing in a #3 for most of last season.

Emotionally? Flutie. Based on what he contributed? Bledsoe, hands down with extra points for class.

Wasn't Jim Miller always hurt?

Flu-tie...The dropkick for the extra point and then him jumping into his Behlichick's arms! Easily one of the funniest patriot moments ever...

The question had nothing to do with LIKING Flutie, it was feeling most secure as a backup. I love Flutie and respect him as well as his career. But he was in his last year before retirement when he backed up Brady and was obviously not in his prime.

Curious, why do you think Cassel is going to be a good starter? When I see him he is jumpy in the pocket not overly accurate and he does fumbles ALOT. He does not even seem to have that much command in the huddle.

I remember seeing Brady in the pre-season, he had something to get excited about. He hit the open receivers, had that command in the huddle and just seems instantly like a leader. He also had that uncanny pocket pressence and stepped up in the pocket and was extremely accurate.

I guess it is true what the experts say, the backup QB is the most popular guy on the team.

He is usually jumpy in the pocket when he first comes in but then settles down. Not suprising for someone who has barely played since high school. And he has had some really beautiful throws too. I can't really explain it there is just something I like about him.

i am comfortable with castle, but drew was great in that playoff game with the steelers.i felt good with flutie back there as well, who doesnt love flutie:rocker:
