Which Stat Amazes You the Most ?

A bunch of nutty stats we're putting up. One good, overlooked, one is that we've outscored our opponents by 100 points; in 2004 we outscored our opponents by 110 points ALL SEASON.

But the amazing one for me is :

We have scored in 35 straight quarters. Since not scoring in the first quarter against Jacksonville on December 16 we've scored in every quarter, the equivalent of nearly 9 games.

http://www.nfl.com/standings?category=div&season=2004-REG&split=Overall

In 2004 the Pats were +177 points. Which has to be one of the smallest totals for a 14-2 team.

Edit: in 2003 it was +110

To answer the question I think the +100 pts thru 4 games takes the cake.

Thats true about that record and it is impressive in a sort of way,BUT still it shows our 4 opponents records as...

4 WINS - 12 LOSSES

If Indy were doing this to the bottom teams of the league right now like the Pats have done, most guys in here sure as heII would be saying no big deal they have had it easy with those lousy teams,Wait till they play us

If we had come out of the gate in week 1 thru week 4 playing Indy,Baltimore,Dallas and Pittsburgh in a row -DO you think the team would be where they are right now with those kind of dominating stats? - You can't possibly say yes-at least right now.

If it was that easy, why has no one done it since 1920 and that team was allowed to play teams outside the NFL. I am sure there are plenty of top teams in the last 87 years who had crap opponents in their first four games of the season yet never acheived four straight games with the margin of victory being over 20 points. The 1972 Dolphins had a cake schedule that year and didn't do it. That record is far more impressive than you give it credit for.

Nevermind misunderstood what was said.

This is the most amazing stat:

No team has beaten their first 4 opponents by more than 20 points in each of their first 4 contests since 1920's Bills, and those guys were playing non-league opponents. So basically, this has never happened before.

The stats look great now but what have our opponents looked like so far?

Buffalo - 1 and 3
Ny Jets - 1 and 3
Cincinnati -1 and 3
San Diego - 1 and 3

Lets actually wait until we play a team who actually shows up to play before we get a hard on about these stats albeit very good but against much inferior teams

Once the Dallas game is over if these kind of stats remain as good then I will be all giddy too - Right now the jury is still out on how good the Patriots really are - and the outcome of our Indy game would be the biggest determination of what we will be look something like in January

I don't get that.

No way you believed 3 weeks ago that the Patriots would destroy the Chargers, Jets, Bengals and Bills the way they have.

These are all real teams that showed up to play.

Seymour = 0 games played. Harrison = 0 games played.

It was actually the Buffalo All Americans, and the NFL was pretty minor league at that point. The college game was superior until Red Grange jump-started the NFL. The Bills were born in 1960, along with the Patriots and a few others.

Which proves my point, that the 1920's team doesn't really count since there were so many minor league teams they played.

This has NEVER happened before, with so much talent on every team, to win your first 4 games by 20 points or more in every game.

Going back to the end of last year....The Pats have

scored in 36 consecutive quarters.

4 games this yr and the last 5 in 2006.

Never shut out in any quarter....Incredible.

No way three weeks ago did I think the Chargers,Bengals and Jets would all have just 1 win apiece either,But they do and they have all played like crap,Most of the good teams primarily Indy and Dallas would likely have had these teams for lunch as well,Maybe not with those kind of stats but probably would have won convincingly as well.

I am convinced that the Patriots are going to win 13 to 15 games,What I am not convinced is that they are going to blowout every opponent besides the 1or 2 teams they may fall short to on the scoreboard.
There will be games that the Pats win where it will be a last second FG - Bet your bottom dollar on it.
These 20 point blowouts are getting some of you guys way too ****y such as the 'were you dissapointed the team did not beat the Bengals by more' thread I just read that was posted earlier today .

Winning by 20 in each of the first four games.

BTW, I don't think for a moment that Cleveland is the best of our first five opponents. Cinci needs to trade for a linebacker.

If we score 34 points or more this Sunday we would've surpassed, after only 5 games, the total amount of points the 1990 Pats put up through the entire 16 game season. We scored 181 points in 1990. Right now we're at 148 of course.

Thought I would raise this since it may be obscured by all the other stats that are raising the roof at the moment, but TB is just about to become the Patriots all time TD passing leader (including Post Seasons)

Steve Grogan - regular season - 182 TD 208 Int
post season - 3 TD 7 Int
Total - 185 TD 215 Int

Tom Brady - regular season - 160 TD 80 Int
post season - 20 TD 9 Int
Total - 180 TD 89 Int

Drew Bledsoe - regular season - 166 TD 138 Int
post season - 6 TD 12 Int
Total - 172 TD 150 Int

not bad in 6 seasons...

I am curious though as to why post season stats are never included in total career statistics. Surely these are the hardest of all games played and better reflect a player's capabilities? Can someone explain why

Which is an NFL record (by 5 - help previously by Jeff George - WTF )

My 2 cents:

Jeff George was a very talented QB. Unfortunately, he was one of those types that believed in his own physical skills far too much. He didn't spend enough effort polishing other parts of his game. Over the years, his physical skills declined but his confidence in those skills did not. The result was that his play got worse and worse and he didn't live up to the hype.

It was kind of like how Bledsoe would never work on his short passing game and take what the defense was giving him because he was always looking for the long bomb. Had he worked on all aspects of his game, especially his weaknesses, he would have been a better QB.

George was even worse in this regard IMO.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of this fact, but, here goes:

In 2006, the Pats earned 330 first downs, and had 220 third downs (a ratio of 1.5:1).
[By comparison, the Colts earned 376 first downs, and had 187 third downs (a ratio of 2.0:1).

Through four games, the Pats have earned 105 first downs, and have only had 39 third downs (a ratio of 2.7:1).
[Only the Titans have had fewer third downs (37), but they've only earned 60 first downs.]

Here's a great stat from the Murphy's Patriots Postgame Show podcast:

2007 Patriots: 148 points in 4 games
1970 Patriots: 149 points in 14 games

Thats true about that record and it is impressive in a sort of way,BUT still it shows our 4 opponents records as...

The colts game will be the game of the year

Im sick of al the dallas talk. Tony Romo will crumble when he looks across the feild at the qb he is facing.

Ben Rothisburger continues to be a flavor of the week, and you never know if he is actually gonna play well or not.

I hate when people discredit a team because of the teams they beat, they are 4-0, and Im betting they would be no matter what teams they played. Or maybe I've just been watching a different Rany Moss and Tom brady than everyone else.

oh, and isnt their #1 rated def. playing with out 2 of their top guys.

Im usualy not one for stats, but I think the most impressive stat this year will be the 16-0 season, topped off with a Packers vs Patriots superbowl...that would be a dream

Probably margin of victory for me. I.e., the fact that they have MORE THAN TRIPLED their opponents in scoring through four games.

Here's another from CHFF: The last three times the Colts and Patriots have met in the playoffs, the team that won the regular-season meeting also won the playoff meeting.

As if we weren't nervous/excited enough about 11/4.
