Wheatley to IR; DeVree promoted; OLB Darrell Robertson signed to PS [merged]

All Belichick really did was to move a Practice Squad TE to the 53 and picked up Robertson. If a veteran is decided upon, there is still plenty of roster room available. The obvious other potential candidates for the IR are Alexander, Jordan and Lew Sanders.

And Adalius Thomas...

The skinny on Roberston:

Had to leave out quite a bit since this came from pay for info Scouts, Inc.

Thanks BPF! "Relentless pass rusher"...I like the sounds of that :) They also say he's better in the 3-4 and that he needs to rely less on quickness and go for the close. Speed definitely sounds like his strong point:rocker:

Re: Wheatley to IR, Devree added to Roster, LB Darrell Robertson signed to PS.

Is Wheatley going to have a chronic problem with that wrist? I understand he has a rod in there and it broke during a college game. I saw his hand dangling and just wondered, will that thing ever be right?

Wrong wrist, I think. IIRC, the wrist with the rod in it is the other one. Could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it :p

Adalius Thomas is not someone you cut just to save a spot to bring up a marginal player. He is well worth having inactive until he is ready, even if that isn't until January. For me, the status of Thomas has to do only with Thomas. He will be put on IR only if Belichick think he can't come back.

I was referring to players who are candidates for IR.

Re: Wheatley placed on IR

The 2005 Eagles were pretty bad, their post-Super Bowl curse too:

2005 Eagles:

Correll Buckhalter, Sean Considine, Hank Fraley, Paul Grasmanis, Todd Herremans, Justin Jenkins, Dirk Johnson, Jerome McDougle, Donovan McNabb, Todd Pinkston, J.R. Reed, Greg Richmond, Lito Sheppard, Jason Short, Thomas Tapeh, Tra Thomas, Brian Westbrook, plus the whole T.O. saga.

Damn, that must have been brutal for the Eagles. Its like a worse version of what has happened to us this year.

Re: Wheatley to IR, Devree added to Roster, LB Darrell Robertson signed to PS.

Robertson was a DE who projected to a possible 3-4 conversion OLB; he was a teamate of Guyton last year at Georgia Tech.

I'm curious to see what this dude could do for us !

Re: Wheatley placed on IR

Great so two of our top three picks are on IR. Next up Mayo and Wilhite to round out the first day of the draft

Roberston got dumped by "The Eskimos". I don't have the same disrespect for CFL may here have, and I like it better than NCAA ball, but come on. Not the greatest sign of "awesome".

He was my official sleeper pick at the DE/OLB position for the Pats last draft. Sleeper picks are usually not top ranked, but possess some of the qualities that fit the Pats. He took the long way around to get here -- but he's on board (for now). Just so we all know, he's strictly a developmental prospect -- so let's exercise some patience and see if/when he develops.

Here's the draft thread on Robertson.

Draft SCout...had a lot about him...positives outweighing negatives...which only had to do with adding bulk esp if in a downline position. A vocal leader..one who wraps up receivers..stays in control whenrushing in .it's all GOOD!!! And he's only 22....same age as Mayo....I LIKE it...Crable, Woods, Redd, Robertson...all OLBs...very nice for the future..

It was his other wrist this time.

J D Sal

You're kidding. Wow. I hate to use the word injury prone, but I think it's safe to say he's wrist injury prone.

Re: Wheatley to IR, Devree added to Roster, LB Darrell Robertson signed to PS.

It's annoying to see everyone showering the Broncos with love when they beat the Falcons without their running backs or Champ Bailey when we're in an even worse situation and I've yet to hear anyone acknowledge the Patriots as being heavily injured.

just typical...that's all

Maybe Jason Foster??

per Reiss the team is trying out Jason Foster...a QB from Georgia Southern...maybe as he said to use in the Wcat..scout team...inyeresting..

Re: Wheatley placed on IR

2006 Patriots, 2006 (?) Texans still had a lot more.

For comparison, 2006 Pats on IR:

Don Davis, Barry Gardner, Randall Gay, Tebucky Jones, Josh Miller, Garrett Mills, Mel Mitchell, Patrick Pass, Junior Seau, Ray Ventrone, Ken Walter, Gemara Williams, Eugene Wilson, and Billy Yates.

2008 Pats on IR:

Tom Brady, Sean Crable, Rodney Harrison, Laurence Maroney, Ryan O'Callaghan, Bo Ruud, Kenny Smith, Barry Stokes, Terrence Wheatley, Tank Williams.

Obviously quantity v. quality.

The 2005 Eagles were pretty bad, their post-Super Bowl curse too:

2005 Eagles:

Correll Buckhalter, Sean Considine, Hank Fraley, Paul Grasmanis, Todd Herremans, Justin Jenkins, Dirk Johnson, Jerome McDougle, Donovan McNabb, Todd Pinkston, J.R. Reed, Greg Richmond, Lito Sheppard, Jason Short, Thomas Tapeh, Tra Thomas, Brian Westbrook, plus the whole T.O. saga.

2006 Texans:

Roc Alexander, Jameel Cook, Lionel Dalton, Domanick Davis, Mike Flanagan, Travis Johnson, Alfred Malone, Jerome Mathis, Chris McKenzie, Seth Payne, Wali Rainer, Sage Rosenfels, Lewis Sanders*, Charles Spencer, Ben Steele, Anthony Weaver, and Zach Wiegert.

2006 Jaguars, too:

Dan Connolly*, Donovin Darius, Brent Hawkins, Reggie Hayward, Brian Jones*, Greg Jones, Byron Leftwich, Elton Patterson, Mike Peterson, Chris Roberson, Nick Sorenson, Pat Thomas, Mike Williams, and Tony Williams.

* = future Patriot

2007 Bengals:

Ahmad Brooks, Dan Burks, DeDe Dorsey, Aaron Elling, Eric Ghiaciuc, Eric Henderson, Kenny Irons, Herana-Daze Jones, Adam Kieft, Ethan Kilmer, Lemar Marshall, Caleb Miller, Tab Perry, Brandon Williams, and Madieu Williams.

2007 Texans:

Jon Abbate, Roc Alexander, Shawn Barber, Glenn Earl, Ahman Green, Brandon Harrison, Scott Jackson, Cedric Killings, Jerome Mathis, Steve McKinney, Dunta Robinson, Jason Simmons, Chris Taylor, Fred Weary, and Chris White.

2008 Ravens:

Kyle Boller, Prescott Burgess, P.J. Daniels, Dwan Edwards, Tavares Gooden, Kelly Gregg, Scott Kuhn, Dawan Landry, Derrick Martin, Chris McAlister, Quinn Sypniewski, Kelly Talavou, Demetrius Williams, and Marshal Yanda.
And the 05 Patriots?? They had many many injuries...maybe not the IR type..(although they DID have 11 on IR...) there inactive lists were about 80% because of injury as opposed to a coaches decision...THAT is quite bad..This year that same pct is about 70...so it's really getting bad.

Re: Wheatley placed on IR

One of Wheatley's concerns coming into the draft was being injury prone.

Am I the only one who see's "David Tyree" everytime I read "Tyson DeVree"?

You're not the only one.:rocker:

Gently now laddy. The wee boy tore a titty muscle (pectoral for doctoral candidates) in March prior to the draft. Combined with reports of his slight frame, it would seem that was enough to drop him to undrafted status, from there he was misguided enough to sign with Dallas. I can see where he might not have been ready to play even by the time the Eskimos got their hands on him.

Recall that he did play fairly competitively in the ACC: "Those experts that might question his ability to stuff the run need to digest this fact -- in 101 running plays, the opponents have gained only 33 yards and one first down against him." NFL Draft Scout

That kid Jayson Foster is amazing. Not a bad arm and can teach the Pats a few thing about the wildcat considering he seemed to run it with ease at GA Southern. Pretty fast and can find the holes. He couldn't hurt this team in any way.... so we need him!
