maybe smith....juries out. harsh criticism for a day-two pick - how 'bout some slack?

Where was the harsh criticism? I asked a simple question. Why draft another NT when the Pats already have 3 players behind Wilfork? What is harsh about that?

I am not NEM. I didn't tell you that you were wrong and that I was right. I just asked for you to explain yourself better. That isn't harsh criticism.

And, for refence: Soliai has character issues and was suspended for the Armed Forces Bowl Game that Utah was in.

Mike Ditka, the guy who's been so critical of BB of late, trading away an entire draft class and some of the following year's to draft Ricky Williams.

Oh wait, that's the nightmare draft.

Good going Ditka.

Dream draft:

#24 OLB Anthony Spencer, Purdue
#28 ILB Brandon Siler, Florida
#60 CB AJ Davis, NC State
#91 S Josh Gattis, Wake Forest
#120 OLB Brian Smith, Missouri
#128 (compensatory) RB Deshawn Wynn, Florida
#187 WR Chris Davis, FSU
#219 QB Tyker Palko, Pitt

Dream draft:

#120 OLB Brian Smith, Missouri
FYI

Name: Brian Smith (+) Coming off hip injury
College: Missouri Number: 39
Height: 6-4 Weight: 235
Position: OLB Pos2: Pass Rush End
Class/Draft Year: Sr/2007
40 Time: 4.65 40 Low: 4.58 40 High: 4.73
Projected Round: 6-7 Stock:
Rated number 18 out of 216 OLB's 238 / 2341 TOTAL

10/26/06 - DE Brian Smith will miss six to eight weeks with a fractured left hip, which he suffered in the win over Kansas State. Smith, the all-time Missouri sack leader with 31, needs three sacks to set the Big 12 record. He is one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award. Stryker Sulak, a sophomore, will replace Smith.

His hip injury is not a Colvin caliber fracture and did not require surgery. If cleared medically at the combine he will be a steal in the 4th rd. If he had not broken his hip, he would be a top 20 prospect.

Is someone still bitter about last years Orange Bowl loss?

j/k. Although I like Puz better than Davis, I wouldn't mind either of the players you mentioned above on the Patriots.

No doubt Puz is better than Davis. But, my point is we could get Davis in probably the 2nd round and he would be almost as good as Puz. We could use one of our 1st picks on an OLB, like Timmons and our other one on a reciever (Dwayne Jarret, Bowe) or a DB.

Actually, I'm not a fan of Dwayne Jarret, but if BB decides to draft him in the 1st round then I will have faith that he will do well. At this point, I don't think he'll do well. He couldn't get that open in college, so he definitely won't get open in the pros. Most of his catches were made by just out-physicaling the DB, which won't happen in the NFL.

Anyways, I kind of went off on a tangent there, but if our draft looked something like this I would be very pleased:

1a. Lawrence Timmons OLB
1b. Dwayne Bowe, Sidney Rice, Michael Griffin
2. Buster Davis.

Of course, if we were able to get both Timmons and Puz our LBs would be set for an awfully long time. Unfortunately, I think Timmons' stock is going to soar at the combine much like Ernie Sims did last year and he's going to move up from a late first to a mid-first round pick.

You do know how many of the FIVE linebacker drafted by BB are under contract for 2007: exactly zero. That being said, if bb thinks that a player projects to be value at the spot, bb will draft them. However, I've learned not expect a Day One linebacker. IMHO, as of today, a TE is more likely in the first round than a linebacker. Of course, I would draft Poz at 1b, but what do I know?

my updated dream draft enjoy

1b. Michael Bush; Louisville (now before you guys criticize me, hear me out, we know the Pats HATE draft lb's, BB has drafted FIVE in his seven years here, and we also know that DE to OLB players are hard to project, so look at this draft, and all the lb's would either be gone (Willis) undersized (Timmons) or hard to project (Woodley) so we go BPA, and get a steal a la Willis McGahee a few years back, Bush and Maroney will solidify our run game for years)

1. Patrick Willis

24 -- Anthony Spencer (OLB)
28 -- Stewart Bradley
2nd round -- David Harris (ILB)
3rd round -- Josh Wilson CB

Right now, we need TWO kinds of LB, and OLB and an ILB. Right now my Dream draft is to have these 3. But I will happy with just 2 out of the three.

Watch the CB Jonathan Wade in the 2nd/3rd round.

from today's Herald:

" Kraft has plenty of reasons for optimism. In addition to the salary cap space, the Patriots also own two first-round picks in the 2007 draft and 12 picks total, all of which can be used to complement a veteran core built around quarterback Tom Brady [stats] and an outstanding defensive line. "

Does this mean he expects 4 comp picks?
