The opposite for me.
I moved from Philly to Boston in 1987. I rooted for the Philly teams as long as I could but when I no longer recognized any of the names in the box score things changed. I still root for the Philly teams against anybody else (except Boston) but I would say now I am a Boston fan. It also helps that I respect the organizations in New England and the way they are run.
I grew up outside Boston but moved to Philly nearly 25 years ago... When the locals ask if I'm an Eagles fan, my response is the same. I ask them that if they moved to Dallas or NYC would they become a cowboy or Giant fan? They look at me with a pained look and reply "of course not" Then they understand why I'm a Pats fan.
My kids have become Boston sports fans because.......it's Philly, need I say more? Put another way, today is the 25th anniversary of the last Philly championship.............
