What if we *Don't* hire a GM?

I'm pretty sure he took a buyout so he could coach this year.

Obviously no one knows but Bill would of got his money if he was fired regardless if he coached next year or not somewhere else.

What makes more sense is that Bill got his money from Kraft to play "nice" and will be paid by his next team.

Effectively doubling his salary for next year.

Otherwise he's quite the bootlicker to take his firing in stride paraded out there like a dog and pony show. For what? So Kraft can try and tell everyone he didn't fire him when everyone knows that's exactly what he did.

do you have a link to a report that confirms this?

I am under the impression that Belichick is not getting paid, that the contract is null & void by mutual agreement.

I had no idea that Agnew was involved in football at all. He has quite an extensive and impressive résumé.

Ray Agnew enters his third season with the Lions as assistant general manager after joining the team in 2021. Before coming to Detroit, Agnew spent four years as the director of pro scouting with the Los Angeles Rams. He was a member of the Rams scouting staff for 18 seasons, having previously served as the assistant director of pro personnel.
Agnew assists and consults Executive Vice President and General Manager Brad Holmes with all functions of the player personnel department. In Los Angeles, Agnew was tasked with evaluating all 32 NFL rosters in preparation for free agency and writing advance scouting reports for upcoming opponents. For the draft, he evaluated all players on the Rams' draft board and prepared grades alongside team need analysis for the draft process. Throughout the year, Agnew was also responsible for the preparation of potential trade scenarios.
Prior to transitioning to the Rams' personnel department, Agnew spent seven years as director of player development/team pastor with the Rams. He served as a spiritual mentor for players and assisted them with life issues.
Yea read it last night. Good for him.

...and his fellow round 1 draftmate has also done OK for himself since retiring.

Right. Which is a major problem because he's part of the yes men that brought us here.

Bill walked away from his money? Does that sound like something any reasonable person would do? He's dumber than I thought if he let Kraft parade him around in front of the media after his firing and didn't even get paid for it.
I'm asking a simple question.

If you don't know the answer, just say so.

Don't need the the posturing.

Let the dysfunction continue.

It was 2 parts - One, he took a buyout, considering he had (reportedly) $25 million on the contract, which he absolutely would have been owed if he were fired. So, much like Brady wanted the 'no franchise tag' clause in his last deal, he took a little bit less than that (and Kraft obviously loves that), that leads me to -
2) Guarantee that they wouldn't seek compensation should Belichick coach elsewhere. That's a much bigger part of this - Belichick's not going anywhere without as full an arsenal as possible at his disposal.

Your question sounded more a rhetorical.

Bill is getting paid and the Krafts are too cheap to find someone new to help change the guard.

It's reported its a mutal

It's a mutal parting, so the team didn't seek any draft compensation for him.. however he will still get his salary..

Right - it's all part of the buyout.

Had he NOT taken the buyout, he would have been fired- would have been owed the money, and the Patriots could have sought compensation had he coached elsewhere.

But he did. Got a nice lump sum check, and his future team doesn't give up any capital.

The Patriots are not entitled to compensation if they fired Bill.

Only if Bill quit.

Yes, after 24 seasons together and the 100s of Millions he helped the organization rake in.. 25 Mil is a drop in the bucket. It's the right thing to do! Both men likely felt it was time for a change.

I doubt he got the whole $25 million. That's not usually how buyouts work.

Looks like Washington is hiring Ben Johnson as HC.
I gotta say like that Was is doing with Johnson and Peters.
They are def targeting Caleb.
Gotta move to 1 if we want him.

Will likely cost all first rounders in 2024 & 2025. Add in second rounders.

Organization needs to be 110% sure Williams can be the next Tom Brady in NE.

Well this is a very different situation . When it's involving Bill Belichick I don't see the Krafts being difficult with his compensation.. IMO
