I think some of us are some combination of embarassed and amazed at how far off we were in calling this season. I'll fess up. I had them 11--5 or 12--4. The problem is that I'm not sure I'd do it differently if I had it to do over in August, 2007. The fallout from the AFCCG was still fresh. I had three main reasons for making the prediction that I made:
1) even if the Moss, Welker and Stallworth additions were going to be successful, I thought it would take several games before everything clicked (I knew I was wrong about that one when Moss accelerated from nowhere and split three defenders to catch that ball at the NYJ ten and take it in for a TD during the opening game--that is still the Pat's single greatest play from scrimmage of the year for me);
2) I never in a million years thought that the offense would be this supercharged and I guess I have to admit I had never imagined that Brady was a record-breaking stats passer--i always thought he was the best game day QB in the history of the NFL, but I just didn't know this other side existed because I had never seen him play with weapons like this;
3) I underestimated the D in general, the impact of the mid/late season returns of Seymour and Rodney as well as how good Asante actually is.
There, I've been honest.
