This may be a dumb question, but why bother having two dates if they are only going to be 4 days apart? It seems like they wouldn't even need the 75 player cut.

With the dates so close together we should see more trades than usual.

My guess is
to ease congestion on the waiver wire
and spread out the load a bit for f/o's sifting the rubble.

There's also a last preseason game inbetween...so that some of the players can be moved before that last game and the bubble players can have their day in the sun to make it OR not. I think that last game is big in many ways.

Agreed. It allows those true bubble guys to get more reps to prove themselves.

The last preseason game is in-between these dates. And since none of the starters play, the final 22 cuts can be more easily decided.
