What’s Left To Do?

Agreed. Wilson and Brown provides depth at C. Sow got hurt in the preseason last year and the anke was more serious than we initially thought. It pretty much hampered his season. I thought Sow was pretty good when healthy. He filled in admirably for strange. Strange will need to make it though training camp injury free to have a roster spot IMO. Right now he's a starter..
Yeah, Sow needs to get and stay healthy. He’s a better player than Wallace or Robinson. Injury is the great equalizer, health = “luck” in football.

I don’t think Vrabel or Cowden care the least about last year’s draft class… they weren’t their players. And even Wolf admits his draft class sucked.

But everyone gets a fresh start to prove they belong. Wallace is a tackle only, Robinson is an interior player only… neither is moving around much in an optimal situation. I just think they have much stiffer competition this year than last.

Marcus Bryant is a bigger stronger version of Wallace. Jared Wilson has to get stronger as well but he is hyper athletic and bigger than Robinson.

Robinson weighed 300 pounds soaking wet, he reminds me of Josh Kline… good technician but woefully undersized. Wallace and Robinson need to show up to camp heavier and stronger.
Good information there Wozzy. I'd say this is believe last years guys are important. Vrabel, Josh Williams they will want to develop those guys at least becuase we have to strengthen the roster and farm system for years down the line. Polk,Baker, Wallace, Robinson are all salvagable players who can thrive under a coaching staff with championship pedigree.

After Maye, last year’s draft class was a symposium of how to reach for players entirely too high. Polk should have been drafted where Baker was if at all. Wallace should have gone where Marcus Bryant went this year if at all. Robinson should have been a late round pick.

Draft status doesn’t equate to talent, this is the biggest misconception by fans. Once the draft is over, draft status is meaningless. Bad GM’s take lesser players too high all the time, even good GM’s make that mistake… they just do it less.

Draft status won’t protect last year’s reaches or mistakes, they have to work extremely hard to earn a spot.

What's the right weight?

Tackle, guard, or center obviously makes a difference but seeing 300 lbs as too light compared to the conversation of Onwenwu coming in fat again when I believe he's listed at 330 makes me ask the question (Assumes 330 is his current weight).

Not that 30 pounds isn't a big difference but it does seem like a small window for such massive human beings.

And to add to that Drake elevates player's.. Wallace and Robinson got invaluable experience last season as they were drafted into basically construction site everything was under repairs.

They will have appreciated that experience as thier careers go on.

That's why the whole premises of bringing in Moses was so guys like Robinson& Wallace, Campbell can learn from him and develop into solid players by the next season or two. I'm expecting ownenu to return to form.. the mayo stench is gone.
Or they looked at the tape and are starting Strange and Moses because they question if Wallace and Robinson will be NFL players.

It’s more about strength, both Wallace and Robinson skipped bench at the combine and again at their pro day. A strong player isn’t afraid to bench, he’s going to show off his strength. Vrabel even implied Wallace needed to get stronger to his face. Wallace and Robinson need to get closer to 320, it needs to be visible muscle not fat.

I’m not sure Onwenu’s weight isn’t fake news by a reporter who tells us someone is overweight every offseason. It seems more like alarmist nonsense. Mike led the entire team in offensive snaps played last year. I smell bullsht.

Good points there.. I'm thinking the current* starting 5 give the best chance to win.. now.. however the competition is merely just beginning. Gotta have depth on the OL at the very least.

Remember nate solder? He actually was a TE at one point in college right? Who became a solid OT here. He couldn't have been that much over 300 pounds? I'm thinking it's more on technique, hand placement, leverage for NFL offensive lineman.

Excellent response thanks.

Good point too.

And he was like 6'9"

As @Wozzy just pointed out the strength and ability to stay athletic at such massive sizes are probably way more important than just going off the weight number.

Excellent response thanks.
I’d just add that in 2023 a reporter, maybe the same one, suggested Trent Brown was close to 400 pounds.

It was garbage. Brown showed up to camp, immediately passed his conditioning test and for the first 2 months was one of the better linemen on the team. He was ranked tops in OT performance by NFL analysts.

Granted Brown got dinged up and quit on the team, but “fat” was patently false. It was rage bait by click hungry media.

Onwenu looks pretty normal to me. He was 370 in college, slimmed down to 350 before the draft and has been listed at that weight ever since. He played the most offensive snaps on the entire team… conditioning wasn’t a problem last year. It seems to have been a lie.

Nate bulked up from his rookie to sophomore season, he showed up visibly heavier and stronger. Also not for nothing, Solder was a freak athlete, his only weakness was upper body strength… Wallace and Robinson not so much.

Yes, he was massive. I remember Brady throwing him TD passes in the end zone sometimes. His weight lessened due to the medical condition that he dealt with didn't he miss an entire season once due to the condition as he couldn't maintain weight? But yes you, and Wozzy bring up good points. I think ol friend in hiding @archstanton543 would even agree.

Thanks for that. I knew that he was our first round pick in "11 right?? I remember solder woul occasionally line up as a extra TE on goal line situations.

Yup with the disaster that was 2024 we really have no idea what talent we have for depth. Sow, Wallace, Robinson, etc. are a complete mystery at this point.

He was a ridiculous athlete. The Pats put him out on an island at left tackle and didn’t provide much help against premier pass rushers.

He was highly underrated by a league sick and tired of Patriot success and who suffered from Patriot fatigue. Many of our players missed Pro Bowl votes for that reason.

I thought the Onwenwu out of shape story for the second year in a row was complete BS too. I just shrugged it off as being big is a big part of the job.

Then I just figured hearing you talk about some guys being too light (or lacking strength) was a good spot to discuss this further. And I think we definitely added some context to the discussion and anytime we can talk about Solder and even Brown is fun. Gotta give the big men some love every now and again.

Agreed!! Also light and vollmer respectively should have been all pros and or pro bowlers multiple times those guys were phenomenal OTs.
