Adam Schefter ?@AdamSchefter
Wes Welker has agreed to terms with Denver Broncos.

Per Schefter: Welker to Broncos

Not a good thing.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

For what it's worth:

@NFL_RealUpdates [/B]#Patriots have offered WR Wes Welker a 4-year, $32 mill deal while the #Broncos are offering Welker a 4-year, $35 mill

IF he leaves for $3 million, that's his problem. Of course, the bonus size aside, as the guarantee does make a big difference.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

Nah, maybe Harvin and Wallace is overpaid?? Just because they got big deals it doesn't mean Welker should get same or more ca$h at least not from us..

The market's the market.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

He's gone.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

This.

Talks that Denver is throwing some funny contract out there are premature. They know that Welker will have to be pried from New England.

The fact he didn't immediately take the Broncos offer tells me perhaps his heart is still with the Pats, and that he hopes they match, so there is some hope.

How sweet it would be to read a new tweet "Pats match Broncos offer" Not likely, but one can hope can't he?

I wouldn't be shocked if my prior scenario is true that he gets $20 million guaranteed and paid about $25 million in his first two years (although I am not betting on it). That means he is really getting a two year contract for $25 million with most of it guaranteed. Elway would be stupid to give Welker that type of contract, but he might do it just because it helps his team and hurts his biggest competitor for the conference.

The one good thing is that the Broncos aren't in the greatest cap shape and may not be able to front load a contract.

Welker isn't an RFA so the Pats don't have to match the exact details of the contract.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

You would think this is something people would put a lot of emphasis on, but nope.

You would think people would put more emphasis on the number of times an offense possessed the ball, and therefore how much they were capable of scoring. The Giants controlled the ball in both games. Belichick must be sick of it and wants to shore up the defense. That's gotta be priority 1.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

for three mil? wow.

Again these numbers don't really mean much without knowing the guarantees and structure.

Despite a last-ditch effort from the Patriots, Wes Welker has agreed to a deal with the Broncos.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

welker agreed to a 2yr deal!?!?!?!? according to breer on nfl network..... no idea how much though

Re: Per Schefter: Welker to Broncos

2 year deal

Re: Per Schefter: Welker to Broncos

Not a good thing.

Not that bad of a thing either, if the defense gets better, and the Pats are able to get a competent outside WR that can get behind a defense.

boy, they'd better have a plan B

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

I may be in the minority but I am fine with this.. good luck Wes

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

The sad thing is that anyone who might contribute close to as much as Welker will cost about as much as he will.

As you have said before, anyone who can contribute close to as much as Lloyd will cost more than Lloyd.

The BOTTOM LINE is that if we replace Welker and Lloyd, it will likely cost us more money for hopefully the same, but more likely less production.

My point is that it won't be fully guaranteed, which is true of about 99.99999% of NFL contracts, so we're not coming from the same spot.

Welker's worth the cash.
