Pregame question: Antwain Spann has been getting a lot of love from some fan camp reports, how has he looked to you and how has he been used in this camp?

Pregame question: Antwain Spann has been getting a lot of love from some fan camp reports, how has he looked to you and how has he been used in this camp?

Hey Box,

Spann has looked good--the unofficial depth chart that's distributed to the media has him as a No. 2 free safety behind James Sanders. I think his future could depend on the play of guys like Meriweather and Dillard--if one or the both of them struggle, Spann will see more reps. (I also think he could be in trouble if they ever decide to move Tank Williams back to safety--not saying they would, but just imagining that possible scenario because of injury.) I think right now his best chance to make this team right now as a regular is as a special teamer, but as always, that could change because of injury. But I do think he will make the final 53-man roster.

For what it's worth, no. 50 was in football pants and a t-shirt on the field beforehand, warming up. Haven't seen him since, but based on how he was warming up, it wouldn't be a tremendous surprise to see him for a series or two. I'll keep an eye out for him.

The tone with many of the reporters I spoke with this afternoon is that it will make Week 2 a lot more interesting. (like a Patriots-Jets game is deadly dull anyway, right?) The overall vibe I'm getting is that the acquisition of Favre will make the Jets an 8 or 9 win team, which is a nice boost from where they were last year. But a playoff team? Not so sure. You'd have to look at the other teams they'd be fighting for that same playoff spot. Are they better than the Browns, Broncos or Titans right now? Don't know about that. The whole thing smells a little bit like Jordan coming back to the Wizards. Are they a better team right now? Yes. Are they a better team long term. Probably not.
