Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Saints veteran LB James Laurinaitis will see a doctor this week and determine if he’s healthy enough to play.

  • According to Garafolo, if Laurinaitis is considered healthy enough to play football, the Saints will be released him from the injured reserve list and allow him to sign elsewhere.
  • Garafolo mentions that with a number of teams dealing with injuries at linebacker, a veteran like Laurinaitis could be a big addition for a contender.
Laurinaitis, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Rams back in 2009. After seven years with the Rams, Laurinaitis signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract with the Saints back in March. He stands to make a base salary of $900,000 for the 2016 season.

The Saints placed Laurinaitis on injured reserve a few weeks ago with a quad injury.

I feel like people are underrating how much Laurinaitis has declined recently. He could bring leadership and toughness, but I don't think he's a better player than anybody else the Pats are currently putting on the field.

BB & co should know him pretty well thanks to multiple shared practices in the preseason over the last years. Wouldn't be surprised if he is brought in for a look.

signing for depth, ok but this won't fix the larger issues with the defense

Agree completely.

Lots of people here were pretty hot on him in March FA willing to throw some serious money at him,
certainly preferring him over Long IIRC

Both he and Long are way, Way past their primes…but even a decrepit Animal Jr is almost certainly an improvement over the execrable Shea McClellin.

So you're telling we could actually pick up a defensive player that was not good enough to stay on the roster of a really bad defensive team...ummmm...what's the catch?

You know how people say, BB is willing to cut ties with a player 1 year before they decline?
Well, BB is willing to take on players that are 3-4 years past their prime.

Somewhat surprising ..

Many people here wanted him in Feb/March.
Of course who knows where he really is injury wise.

Not bad...

Oh damn I was at that game! That was Gronks first monster play of his Patriots career. I'll never forget it. When I saw that I was a believer that he was going to destroy the league
