DRAFT Welcome Caleb Lomu OT Utah

Happy We did not trade out and we drafted for need.

LOL. Wolf feels good about a LT playing RT. Lazar actually wrote that when 2 years ago Wolf told us he was confident that Wallace could switch from RT to LT. Wolf is clueless. 2 years later and the Boston Sports reporters forget. What a joke.

Lomu might be fine. Very athletic kid. But anyone that listens and reports what Wolf says about an OLman is an idiot. Remember Wallace? Remember Layden Robinson? Wolf is clueless about the OL and Lazar is pimping Wolfs comments. LOL

I saw CBS Sports gave our pick an A+.

28. Patriots: Caleb Lomu, OT, Utah
Grade: A+
To get a tackle with Lomu's tape in pass protection at 28 overall is nothing short of a steal. He falls here because he needs to get stronger, more consistent, and play with more edge, but he goes to a great spot to develop himself in all three areas. He has special feet and hand usage on tape to be their future starting tackle.

Our OL has come a long way in 2 years from
2024 Lowe, Jordan, Brown, Onwenu, Jacob’s
2026 Campbell, AVT, Wilson, Onwenu, Moses/Lomu

"Protect the Drake" has been my primary roster goal: I want the most athletic and talented OL out there. Specifically, I wanted to come out of the draft with 4/5 long-twrm starters in place.

After Max Iheanachor went off the board at 21 things looked dim. Lomu (OT) and Keylan Rutledge (RG) were the 2 guys left in the draft who I felt fit, and when Houston took Rutledge at 26 that left only one. Goal accomplished.

Here are the athletic profiles of that 4/5 long-term starts, all of whom will be under contract through at least 2028:

Mike Onwenu is in a contract year, is overpaid, and doesn't really fit schematically or in terms of athletic profile with the others.

That leaves RG for 2027 (though Micah Morris could be a sneaky day 3 option), where guys like Austin Siereveld, Carter Smith, Cayden Green and Kade Pieper could be options.

Hopefully he isnt pressed into action because of injuries and can red shirt his rookie season while bulking up. If Campell put on some weight during the break, things are looking much improved over last years oline, in theory.

I was disappointed to see the Miami edge go, but I didn't think there was any way he would last until our pick. Lomu fills a huge need, and his athleticism bodes well.

As I said re Campbell's weakness being weakness, it is one of the easiest things to address with a pro strength and conditioning program, especially so given hes only 21.

If he sees significant reps this year, I expect to see him beat on bull rushes, just like Will last year. Hopefully Will has addressed that obvious flaw and we see an upright Maye dropping dimes off PA with Henderson and Rham running wild.

A guy can wish, right?
Right

On the real though a very reputable website had Lomu ahead of the guy with the funny name a lot PatsFans wanted.

Not a glitzy pick that's for sure. But young with a great upside and will fill a need for the future.
