Week One Television Coverage, Patriots at Bills

Because the US Open is on later in the day we have the very rare occurrence of another game being on while the Pats are on. With the choice of NO v. Atlanta available, we get NYJ v. Tampa instead. Ugh. Yeah, there may be displaced NY people scattered through NE but NO V. Atl would generate much better ratings just the same - besides being a genuinely interesting game. The Jets game is sure to be awful.

The suits assumption is that fans are more interested in a division rival rather than the best possible game.

Problem with that logic is that the Jets are not much of a rival to the Pats this year.

BTW, how soon after the game are the NFL Replay games available? I understand that you can have access to game films, games for several years as well the most recent games, all for $30 or $40 for one team and $70 for all of them.

According to the Game rewind site from nfl.com, this is their statement:

"Sunday afternoon (1PM ET & 4pm ET) and Sunday night NFL games are available following the conclusion of the Sunday Night Football game telecast. Monday NFL games are available 24 hours after the conclusion of the Monday Night Football game telecast."

One of the positives is that you'd be able to access the all-22 camera angles, which is a nice addition in the past couple of yrs.

Also, my understanding is that it is illegal for condos to ban dishes. There have been several court cases on the matter.

Yes sir. You are correct that technically it is illegal to ban dishes. How they get around this matter is often refusing to allow the satellite provider and tenant to make any changes to any of their property.

In other words, they still often have the upper hand in terms of not allowing a hole to be drilled into the wall for the cable to come through, or to ban any dishes/equipment from being physically braced to the porch setting or any other surrounding property. Due to these reasons, my hands are tied because we'd have to have an unsightly physical cable running throughout the entire length of the living room via the window (so that there isn't a hole drilled anywhere).

It just doesn't seem to be worth it for those reasons alone, but you'd be right that I could definitely win if I chose to pursue it in court. Unfortunately they also have figured out how to make things difficult by not allowing you to make any changes to their property, so that is their new "out" or excuse.

Yup.

In our community, we have single family homes. Dishes are allowed. I would note that we do not attach them to the building. BTW, I recall that in NH a family was able to put in the ground even in limited common property.

I recall a case where folks actually attached the dish to the window, and thus did notmake changes to common property.

But, you're right. The hassle of fighting condo associations usually isn't worth it.

Yes, but I am a big enough NFL fan to want to watch other games, and sometimes I don't like the match-up that's being shown locally. I will always watch the Pats, but am wondering if it's worth it for the other games.

Personally, I do think it's worth it Deb. When you consider the fact that they split your cost up into 5 payments over the course of the season, it's relatively inexpensive (unless you're an idiot like me that pays for it all year long only to watch the games during the season) at about 60 dollars x 5 months.

That also gives you access to the online/mobile devices in case you aren't at your home or wish to follow a second game at the exact same time. You are allowed to watch your games on the TV but are limited to one login for the mobile device. The only reason they do that is to prevent people from giving their login info to friends in other places (which you could in theory do if you weren't watching a mobile device yourself). Once 2 people try to log in to the mobile device at the same time though, it will kick you both out and make you log in again. This is all irrelevant unless you wish to also watch an additional game on your iphone, tablet, or PC.

It may be worth giving it a go for the upcoming year just to see how it works out for you. FWIW---any Directv customers get the first week of the season for free in regards to the Sunday Ticket, so if you already have Directv you can give it a trial run this upcoming weekend and see what you think.

Hope this helps

Yeah, Directv has done a nice job of countering the problem by offering posts to which you can attach the dish at a bit of an additional cost. This way you don't have to mess with the condo association's property etc. They also came up with a "flat" cabling system that can run inside of a window frame rather than having to drill a hole in the wall.

Unfortunately in my specific case, our windows are relatively far away from where the main TV is--but if we're still in the same location next season I may have to get creative and attach the cable to the baseboard of something like that. The wife will just have to deal with it!
