Todd Dowling yesterday...

I think this quote is being over-analyzed. All Downing is really saying is "if we only have five active WRs on game day, and he's one of those five, and two get hurt or need a breather, that means he's seeing the field and it might not be in the spot he's most suited to. So he needs to know all the WR roles well enough where we can call a basic play or two and he isn't going to be lost and confused."

Maye is not running a complex offense, it is more a West Coast in my estimation. Troy and Julian were fitting into TB12's offense which was far more complex, and takes longer to learn, than what Maye is running today (McDaniels game plan).

Julian talks commonly about Tom drilling him in practice so they both understood the adjustments in different situations. Maye is like TB12 in 2002, so Maye is not a complex offense yet.
Pop has too much physical talent to give up on so I hope he and Maye can grow into the offense together but if Chism can pick it up faster then I'm ready to switch and let Pop catch up when he can.

Which makes him even more interesting to me. Assuming they move on, Watson become a perfect "prove it" deal kind of guy in next year's FA. The guy where legitimate injury issues lowers the guarantees or yearly APR at least for the first couple of years. It makes him a better deal in the end.

BTW- I don't wat to add a bunch of WR's next year. Just some size at X and to get younger. I'd be wanting to get past Diggs and Hollis after 26. Let's see how Williams continues to develop or are we now going to dismiss him too, because he hasn't had a 100 yd game yet. I mean it's not like we've just played one. He's HAD 2 chances and came up empty. Clearly it must be Chism time (Oh God, I just spit up in my mouth)
Hammer time.

He seems to not have a good feel for how to find the weak spots between zones. He appears to me to always run through where he should hit the brakes and sit.
After watching the JT O'Sullivan breakdown, it looked like Pop should have ran it more up the seam than into the corner. He also suggested that it could have been the Booty should have ran a hook/curl. He also suggested that he is not sure who he was throwing it to and after watching it multiple times it could have been Pop if Booty ran a hook and Pop ran a corner.

We can speculate but we don't know. It was a tuddy so it doesn't matter for our purposes right now, but potentially someone is not running the correct routes and maybe does not know the offense well enough.

That's a lot of analyzing of that quote. I agree with your perspective.

LOL, you're right. Maybe I should have said "misinterpreted"

Not sure where to put this so putting it here but love that other players respect Maye, unlike when every other player thought Mac Jones was a cheap shot artist.

9 Keys to the game: (3 for each phase)
O1 - Continue steady improvement on OL
O2 - Repeat rotation/usage of RB's (with a little more of Henderson)
O3 - Get Pop & Williams involved more to put pressure on D
D1 - Pressure & Flush Rogers from pocket
D2 - Make or break for Spillane (use Dugger & Mapu more in passing downs)
D3 - Slowly integrate Gonzo, don't wear out his hammy in 1st game back
ST1 - Andy-B needs to relax and make the gimme's
ST2 - Kick coverage team more sound
ST3 - Berringer has to show consistency

Some things I hope the Pats are emphasizing this week. And it isn't so much improvement in any area or health. You can't control health and you can't massively improve anything in 1 week.

#1 Penalties... We can't keep committing them at this rate. Just can't. We aren't good enough to continue to over come 8+ penalties a game.

#2 Maye making smart choices with the ball. In this game Maye will face some quick pressures and can not throw the ball up. Take the sack.

#3 Maye, know your match ups. I wouldn't bother testing Ramsay much... He will massively have an edge over any WR he's on. Pitt has some really good players back there and some holes. Know your match ups presnap. Don't fully commit to it or anything... but have in your head where you edge is early and where your higher risk situations are. Very important for this week.

#4 Defense, say it with me! Metcalf and Warren. Warren and Metcalf. Flactem and Nerraw. I could include Calvin Austin too, bu i don't think he will beat you. if you are on D. Know where both guys are. Just be aware. You don't need to out play them or out talent them... but just if you see Metcalf on the field and you are a DB and he is entering your zone. It's okay to cheat a little. LBs... if Warren is on the field keep an eye on and and move with him if he comes your way... If he blocks you then kind of lets you past him, that is not a good sign. Just stay on the guy.

I wouldn’t stay away from Ramsay as a rule. He’s a good player but he’s not what he once was. I’ve seen him get beat plenty the last 2-3 years. Not suggesting to seek him out, but I wouldn’t shy away from from him.

Thanks. Based on the fact that Boutte runs great routes (JT does not know that), I assume that Douglas blew it. That is the most likely the answer, and since Douglas' playing time is dropping, I think it is a high probability.

That is also in line with my thinking, but it does make sense if Booty was to run a shorter route and Pop in the corner. Even if Pop was to run a corner he flattened out too much, so I am 100% on Pop running the incorrect route.

I also think that Pop could play as the Z or whatever McD calls the off LOS WR. I am thinking he could have a Deion Branch/Cooks kinda impact.

Vrabel is best known for playing for the Patriots during his 14-year NFL career, but he was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft. He served as a backup during his four years with the Steelers before going on to become one of the Patriots’ most impactful players during their first dynasty run.

“I think a really well-run, family organization,” Vrabel recalled about his time with the Steelers. “Just the Rooney family, I was very lucky to be brought into the NFL by that organization. I learned a lot, great veterans. The veterans that showed us what it was like to be a pro, what it was like, had guys like Dermontti Dawson, Mark Bruener, and I can go on and on and on. Levon Kirkland, Carnell Lake, all these different players that were unbelievable players, but people, husbands and fathers, and really, that’s the NFL that I knew. It was impressive.”

Vrabel is 0-3 coaching against the Steelers.

My argument has nothing to do with Pop, he needs to be better.

My argument is making a grand proclamation about how often Chism will perform correctly before he has even played a regular season snap.

All eyes on you Pop.
