Week 11 Patriots Report Card, 30-17 Win Over the 49ers

Steve Balestrieri

For the 21st time in his HOF career, Brady threw for 4 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He finished 24 of 40 for 280 yards with the four scoring throws.

Very good review of the 49ers game by Mr. Balestrieri.

The emphasis on Edelman was clearly a homecoming game strategy. I was hoping to see more Bennett last night, and maybe a little pass catching by the new TE they brought in - Lengel. But no big deal.

I look forward to the Jets game which will basically be their Super Bowl. I hope the Patriots can put together a workmanlike win like the SF game.

QB: A- (Brady missed a few easy ones but made some insane plays)
RB: A (all 3 main guys did their job very well
WR: B+ (a few key miscues with an Edelman/Mitchell step out and times not getting open but a strong effort)
TE: B+ (Very good blocking. Did what was asked)
OL B- (Great run blocking and rarely didn't give Brady at least a chance to throw it away)

Offense - B+ and the rain made it look worse than they were.

DL: B+ (Hard group to run block but pretty good pressure)
LB: C (Not a good game from Hightower and no one else helped)
CB: A (One of the best of the year)
S: B (It seemed when a catch was made it was due to safeties or LBs... Chung with a bad game here)

Defense - B-

STs - B (a missed XP but besides that pretty decent)

Overall a B effort kind of game but that would have routed the hapless 49ers if conditions didn't keep them in it. I am glad the CBs and pass rush stepped up some. The D needs to get a bit better though on the whole and it needs a LB to step up opposite Hightower as well as to let the dogs loose and play aggressive.

I thought the DL performed closer to a B- than a B+ though I gave them a B for showing at least a modicum of improvement. Otherwise, I agree with the rest of your & Steve's grades.

BobDigtal suspect A for CB's granted the 49ers had Practice Sqad types at WR...Chris Harper Starting yikes.
