To seriously evaluate the game, I went back and looked at week 1 of the last 4years to get a feel for the way teams start opening weekend.
Jets opened with the following scores since 2004. 31-24 win over cincy, 2005 27-7 loss against KC, 2006 23- 16 win over the Titans, 2007 38 - 14 loss to the Pats.
Miami since 2004, 17-7 loss to the Titans, 2005 34-10 win over the Broncos, 2006 28-17 loss to the Steelers, 2007 16-13 loss to the Skins.
The Jets seem to win their opener every other year, going 500 over the last 4 seasons and the Dolphins have won just 1 in the last four years. Now taking into account Parcells always starts off slow with a new team and uses his first year to evaluate the talent he has to work with, and that the Jets coach really can't afford a week 1 loss to the Dolphins, I'd predict the Jets come out a little bit more focussed and pull off the win. With the Jets not having a major passing attack, and needing to play ball control, I guess that it will not be a high scoring game. So I will go with 20 - 13 Jets over Miami. Figure the Dolphins will clamp down on the run game in the red zone forcing a few field goals by the Jets and the Jets defense shouldn't give up too many big plays to the very mediocre Dolphins offense.
